lmao, what were they like live?
@lukeschwartz32914 жыл бұрын
@@znet9452 I was at this show, I'm in a blue hat and a yellow shirt, you can see me trying not to get "moshed" on in some of the crowd shots. This show went on at like, idk, 2pm after it had rained real bad and the ground was torn up. Maybe second show of the day. Everyone was shitcovered in mud and no one really seemed like they wanted to be there, or like they were waiting for a different band later on. But it was such a hypnotic show that as long as you didn't fall over--everything was real slippery-- it felt like it passed by so quickly. Seeing them is like being on a ride that you don't know how to get off of. At this point nobody knew the songs either, the record had been out like, a week? I personally hadn't even listened to the record yet, I'd just heard the KEXP session

I remember seeing this band at an Ought gig about 18 months before their debut. They were opening and about 12 people hung around to listen to them. My mate and I were griping about how they just weren't up to scratch at that point because - to be blunt - they weren't. BUT, Morgan Simpson was something else even back then. He was by far the highlight of the band, to such a degree that I was tempted to go and tell him just to find a group who were more on his level. Little did I know what Black Midi were on the verge of becoming, but to me they'll always be playing catch up to Morgan's musicianship. He's definitely one of the drummers of his generation hands down.

Defo Talking Heads influences. Not sure about Sonic Youth. I also hear Beefheart but I'm not sure they have mentioned them. They started out as a bunch of friends who love 70s jazz fusion. They have kinda fused fusion with post punk. It is complex music which feels improvised but is mostly carefully composed - just like Beefheart.

you should react to carter mclean. He's an insane jazz drummer with really good feel. He plays with other people a lot and he normally tones down his crazy playing and adapts to the music, but in some of his drum demo vids he plays a little bit choppier. He has a "similar" sub count on his yt channel (like 10k more. For you it might be a lot more to you than it is for the average viewer) and imo his playing is very tasteful and musical. He has quite a few vids of him demo-ing drums so if you want to see what he plays like, you could just watch one of his other vids and react to a different one. anyways if you read this msg and do decide to react, then I'll be very happy and give you my worthless respect to a creator
