Having ressurected DeLorean # 516 (the long lost MIRA high speed test vehicle) what I can share outside of the multiple pre - production parts Dunmurry installed into 516 - the Bosch injection is challenging to get worked out. The fuel distributor is well known for seizing (516 was) when parked for long periods of time. You're actually on the money with the 'spider thing' diagnosis. When the plates stick it floods, relieving the pressure or revving the engine like crazy to clear the flooding allows it to run. Look for liquid/vapor fuel in the exhaust. The fuel distributor isn't a good idea to tinker with, but DMC in texas offers a rebuilding service that is excellent. They also offer a fuel pump and module kit that will save you a lot of headaches. I don't remember why I had to get that kit but it was really important. The device you believe is a pressure regulator is only half right. It's a warm up pressure regulator. That does some kind of voodoo pressure kick for cold temperature. Also save yourself the frustration/possible engine compartment fire - replace those vinyl/rubber looking fuel pressure hoses. They were called flamethrowers for a reason. Hope all this word salad helps - A tech that has already waded through the hell you're about to experience.

Haha, it is a product of it's time. I am 54, so I was 10 years old in 1980. Yeash, all of those John Hughes movies...that was us in the mid to late 80s. And what you are seeing inside of that car...that was what "new" and "modern" looked like at that time. Cars were laden in cheap plastic on the interior, they were slow and hell...that instrument cluster looks like it did in every car my parents owned in the 80s. Of course MY first car was a 71 VW Bug. But people who had new cars, teir interiors looked like that. Oh, and speaking of the gauge cluster: You are going to have a problem testing out the 88MPH run. You see, back then there was a law that speed gauges could only go up to 85MPH. I know, it sounds alien to younger people who were not on the planet then, but it is true. That's why they had the mock up digital gauge in the movie car.

Id also recommend getting the fuel distributor and warm up regulator rebuilt along with replacing the original fuel lines. you'll need a new fuel accumulator under the car to keep fuel pressure in the system also. There is a guy in the delorean community that supplies intakes to make it have a carb setup. A few people have done it and it takes all the mechanical crap out of the system

Chris, Bosch K Jeteonic fuel pumps run at higher pressure than typical electroni injection. It's a constant flow injection closer to hilborn than EFI. The flap inside the cone is the mass flow sensor. You need a K jet pump. VWs of the 80s, 911s, etc. are a source. The block with the lines is a variable sized oriface. They actually work ok if the fuel filter is clean and the gas doesnt gum up.

@@junkerupYup, how they work is via a solenoid that activates as the spring runs down, there are bare contacts that shunt the solenoid and rewind the clock. That's the click you hear in the car, it's the clock winding itself, clever design.

I love the Delorean, loved the winged doors, this car is in great shape and a movie car. I remember hearing about somebody buying everything that was left of Delorean, some cars half built and all the parts inventory he had left, because he needed cash bad. If you can straighten out this fuel system and get it mechanically running, these cars bring some pretty good money, don`t they. I heard they were cheaply built, and he used the cheapest parts they could get there hands on. Just imagine starting a car company with nothing, the in house inventory you need to start putting cars together, sure corners were cut on materials and everything else to get going, which explains the quality, but I loved the angles, the doors, the look and the body is stainless. I would get it running, clean the shit out of it and flip it, I have seen a few of these in videos, and this one you got is in the best shape I have seen, the body is beautiful.

DeLorian Midwest might be able to help with parts. There in Crystal Lake, IL. These engines are known to have the valley of death. The coolant passages deteriorate in the valley of the block and leak into the oil. You might want to think about that. Otherwise I've heard of people putting in small blocks in these cars. Maybe a 318, 340, or 360 might work. Put in a 340 six pack that would be sweet and get you well past 88 mph. 😂😂😂😂
