The way the engine was cranking I thought that it either had a blow head gasket or some burnt valves. It definitely is easy to replace that head gasket , the engine will run so much better when that it done. I am looking forward to seeing Jens video. Your method of doing things is the way I think I'd like to do it - so similar minds think alike, that sort of stuff. Keep 'em coming, please! Jenn, Gus and Turbo add an additional touch that's hard to beat... Definitely quality stuff!

Roundabout 20 minutes in, Jen’s smile says everything you need to know about where this is going. That scratches my “happy people” itch for today. There’s nothing like a boat to make your troubles go away and when you get it for a song, that’s the icing on the cake. Most people shovel money into boats faster than they can earn it, so getting one you can afford and managing to enjoy it is just the best.

You are great Chris, American dream kinda stuff going on here. None of the political nonsense, just fixing stuff, living your life. You and my dad have much in common, he is an independent Mercedes and BMW mechanic, owns and has solely operated his own shop for 35 years in Bend OR, he also loves to buy stuff second hand and fix them up. A dozen cars, 2 boats, a rhino just like yours, 3 motorcycles, 2 snowmobiles and a handful of other stuff. I originally found you when you did a fuel pump replacement on a Mercedes E320, I watched that video to do my own fuel pump in my E320. Been a fan ever since. Please keep up the good work, I personally have really enjoyed watching.

just found this vid, with the boat I just finished, I also had to remake the front mount, and did similar. A couple good side plates off a trailer hitch, and some 3/8 U-channel I had sitting around to have it sit on the stringers. No more wood to rot, (I redid the whole wood structure..... the floor was GONE) and the engine weight is on the "structural members". for the bilge pump, I just welded a small bracket onto the engine mount, and hose clamped the pump to it. Works as good as new, nothing to rot, and easy to service

This reminded me of my first boat. It was a 1978 Celebrity Tri Hull with a 140 HP Mercruiser. Same exact engine as the one in this video. I wound up getting it in some shallow water and it sucked a bunch of mud up into the impeller and overheated it really bad. Warped the head and locked the motor up. I pulled it out and a friend of a friend help me rebuild it. This was circa 1988. It was my first engine overhaul but this guy built engines for modified dirt track race cars and really knew his shit. He taught me a LOT. Like for one thing, he told me to buy new push rods and to never put old push rods back into a new engine. He had me take the old ones and roll them around on a mirror and you could really tell each of them were slightly bent. Then he also had me buy all new main bearing and head bolts. He said that once you torque a main bearing bolt, it stretches and should never be reused. He showed me when I got my new bolts compared to the old ones using his micrometer. The old ones were slightly longer. Like he said, you don't want to lose a main bearing bolt when you are turning 10,000 RPM's, which is what the 283's he was rebuilding at the time for the dirt track cars he was racing. We bored it out .30 over, new pistons, rings, wrist pins, main bearings, cam bearings, valves, push rods, main bearing bolts, head bolts, etc, etc.... Had that thing running like a champ. If I remember right, the factory red line on the engine was 4,600 RPM, but after the rebuild, I ran it at 5,000 RPM all day long from then on. I had it for about another 8 years or so but let things that broke on it build up and lost interest in boating and sold it to a friend for like $500. He ran it a few more years before he junked it. But that 3.0L (181ci) 4 banger was a great engine!!!!!
@joerosier6059 Жыл бұрын
PS: Forgot to mention that my engine always sounded like a sewing machine when running. Especially at idle even after the rebuild. I played with the valve lash several times but could never get that sound to go away. It ran so good I stopped worrying about it.

This video clearly showed me why I gave up working on my simple aluminum fishing boat. First, I didn't know what I was doing, second, I didn't know where to learn how to do it, and third, I didn't know where to find the parts I needed. As a woodworker, I'm worried about the rotten wood which originally supported everything inside the hull (as well as the condition of the transom).
