Richard, I just picked up an LBT cam. I see you're adding more stuff to your website. When will you put cheap turbos on it? The people need to be able to buy $200 turbos along with their $200 cams. Then everything will be right in the world😂.

Gday Richard, loving your videos, all the questions I didn't think to ask. But here is a question I don't think you've covered; are stepped headers more efficient than non stepped headers. I think I've seen them on F1 engines so I'm thinking there is something there. Cheers.
@richardholdener172710 күн бұрын
I have tested step headers, but like everything else, sometimes they help and other times not (it would be nice if it was universal either way)

People need to remember their COMPRESSION RATIO. Not just Static Compression Ratio , but ALSO calculate Dynamic Compression Ratio. You might think that your motor is only 9.0:1, but if that's the Dynamic and not Static number, your Pistons/Rods won't be your friends for too much longer with anything that adds additional TQ before the peak or crossover point, causing cylinder pressures to climb too high (GROSSLY OVERSIMPLIFIED ON MY BEHALF..... talk to an engine builder). Every once in a while, THERE IS a WRONG CAM. *EDIT* This doesn't apply to the majority of BTR 'Stock LS Style' Cam upgrades. *SIMPLE TIME AGAIN* = Don't go out and buy a ChopaCobbra type of Cam because you enjoy the 'sound' (overlap lope) and slamm Forced Induction onto it. Always consult an engine builder.

How about making the power adder the constant and changing the cam from NA, blower, turbo etc??
@richardholdener17279 күн бұрын
If you change a cam-it changes na power. That in turns changes boosted/nitrous power. The Na power curve decides the eventual boosted/nitrous power curve
@wcmiller789 күн бұрын
@@richardholdener1727 Right. So i guess my REAL question is why do manufacturers sell pwr adder specific cams and also then in multiple stages?
@natez06906 күн бұрын
I’ve heard engine builders talk about broken Exhaust rocker arms and worn valve tips from trying to open the Exh valve against all the extra combustion pressure from the power adder. Not sure if that’s a case by case basis or not but it would be worth a phone call to your cam manufacturer.

Everybody gets cam selection wrong, the application matters. How much torque rise ?? Cylinder pressure ? Where is peak power required, are we tire limited class racing.

Hi Richard im from Australia and was starting to build a turbo roller cam vorte but now looking to go 5.3 ive looked all over the place but havent been able to find if the alloy or cast iron block is better ideally would like to run 25 psi but sometimes our day time temperature can hit 95 100 f just wondering if theres a brake down of wich 5.3 is the best ive also seen mention theres differences with head bolts or manifold bolts in the mix as well watched nilly all your videos keep up the good work 👍
@richardholdener17272 күн бұрын
For the 5.3L specifically, it doesn't matter iron or alum, the iron is much more avail in the states-but I don't think you guys got all the trucks in Aus
@anthonysimpson43032 күн бұрын
@richardholdener1727 thanks for info have a choice between alloy or cast and info just isn't there . with new technology u never no wich is better .... your right we never really got the trucks few sliped in but not many. Atm there's few guys shipping 5.3s/6l buy the container loads unfortunately they are asking a premium . think it's $1700 aud for 5.3 short motor without heads intake ect suit rebuild.... unfortunately no runners . If I had a option I'd inport a good short motor and reco shift kitted t400 with right stall and flex plate to suit but bit risky not having contacts in the states

Curious why everyone of the power adders made peak HP earlier in the rpm band than the NA combo. Next, do you have any Truck Norris cammed dynos with bigger hits of n20, say 400-500 worth of n20? Would just opening the exhaust valve sooner make more power do to pumping loss changes? How about higher boost turbo setups, say 25lbs or more? Again, would a single valve event change (EVO) make more power due to pumping loss changes? Lastly same question with the blower. To add to that, if 14.7ish lbs of bost doubles the power, then 29.4psi should triple the power, can we see those tests?
@richardholdener17275 күн бұрын
see the big bang 6.0L-we tripled the power at 29-30 psi. It works. You don't run 400-500 hp worth of nitrous on a motor with a Truck Norris (it doesn't make enough NA power).

This test reminds me of hearing bout a SBC cam one time. Dude tells me that the cam will only make 100HP-ish more on nitrous and no matter how much more you spray, it just won't really make more power. Ever hear of a cam like that? Might be just the engine/combo was the limiter, idk i just respected the dude n was like yah w/e I'm not gonna use that cam with nitrous anyway.

Have you ever tested stock cam with a turbo vs cammed with a turbo? I feel like I already know the answert and that the turbo is a better bang for buck but I'm still curious what the numbers and curves look like on the same engine.

Do you start with a different starting point cam when displacement changes? Would you start with the same cam on a 6.0 stock bottom end vs a 402 stroker forged bottom end? I know I don't need a dedicated stroker cam might it benefit from a different profile than a 6.0
@richardholdener172710 күн бұрын
depends on your goals-I also ran the Truck Norris on a 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L, and you could run it on a 408 (depends on your desired power goals)

Good low end torque and drive ability for my truck with a manual transmission. the SS2 i put in is struggling with reversion probably because I don't have headers. I been considering going back to my stock lq4 cam assuming it looks good on a cam doctor. I can't help but wonder if a little bit more cam might make it happier even down low since If I recall correctly TN being very close to stock on the low end for the 5.3. Which makes me ask, would a 6.6 make a TN better down low
