Awesome channel, just found found you today. I'm currently in the planning phase of an LS swap into a 72 fj40 land cruiser. I've been enjoying following along on your junkyard ls prep. I'm planning to refresh a junkyard 5.3 so I'll definitely be paying attention to your tips and tricks.

Hello. OK so my plan was to remove my LQ4 from truck BUT that is not going to happen. Removed head (going to shop) i am replacing cam; oil pump; oil pan gasket. Here is my question today. I want to clean as much of this long block as i can Mostly head surface & pistons. Can i remove cam and clean everything into oil pan? Blow out everything with air? Wire wheel on block? Pistons? Sorry for all the stupid questions. Thanks David

I try not to use a wire wheel on anything as those little particles of the wheel will get in the motor somewhere and can cause you problem as far as cleaning the pistons I might potentially wipe them off with some brake, clean, and a good lint, free, rag, other than that I would not mess with them, cleaning the surfaces like head mounting surface on the block Scrape with a razor blade wipe with big clean and lint free rag trying to be careful not to get anything in the engine because it will probably not come out

Matt, will an LS3 work with old school gauges? Water temp, oil pressure, tach and volts?
@blindguysgarage8 ай бұрын
The short answer is yes, but what are you working on probably can help a little more

@@blindguysgarage 71 nova that had a 454 with auto meter analog gauges. I’m purchasing a summit ls3 crate engine part 19435098 off a friend at a discount. Would love to keep my gauges but it seems like everyone’s going Dakota digital these days. Thanks

@@Enjoytheinbetween you would use the stock oil pressure sensor and coolant temp sensor they will make a adapter fitting for both of these to screw directly into the LS block for oil, pressure sensor and the passenger side cylinder head for coolant temp. You may have to extend the coolant temp wires.. The vaults will work on their own. However, tack and speedo may be a tad bit of work if using an electronic transmission like a 4l60E 4L80E 6L80E you will need a speedo driver Dakota Digel makes one.
