Oh man, this would have been HILARIOUS to see in some rallycross! I'm a big fan of rallyx, even though I'm the stereotypical Subaru racer, lol. But I've seen some awesome entries, like a 1st gen Dakota, a Jag X-Type, a few Rangers, an 80's Caprice wagon, a Toyota Sequoia...the list goes on. But that's what's awesome about it, you don't need a racecar to go tear up a field and dodge some cones. Just a safe, solid car, some good tires, a helmet, and a few bucks. You should definitely try it with another car, though, it's absolutely worth it. Quick tip - winter tires are a great choice for lots of grip. I bought a set of barely used MasterCraft Glacier Grip 2 snow tires from a guy on Craigslist for $200 just to use as rallycross tires, and they're excellent.

There is a way to check the engine codes with the OBD1 cars, it involves sticking a paper clip or jumper in the access port under the dash. There's a few videos about it. Could be something as simple as a vacuum leak or because the exhaust is leaky before the o2 sensor. Or a plugged cat, bad smog pump, etc. The brake light will also come on if the switch on the prop valve is bad or the e brake is partially or fully engaged.

Pretty sure I already commented on this video before, but man there's something about those Olds Delta 88s that just makes them THE single most desirable American car ever to me (I'm in England, so pretty darn low chances I'll ever see one in the flesh let alone drive or own one). The fact that you bought it for such a ridiculously cheap price too, just staggers me. You & the channel have come so far since this video, but this is still my favourite car you've featured.

Down south. Farmers usually have old cars like these laying around their countryside, usually from their father's fathers and such. There was a brand new 82 charger found with 5000 miles on it in Arkansas recently. Someone stashed it in a barn in a field and never touched it. They'll always want something for it. I was looking at an El Camino for a project car and an old man let me have it for $100. Just needed a new clutch.

You pissed in your nappies dude as this car was new, SO, treat it with RESPECT! The hanging headliner was/is common on GM cars until 1989. They used thin cloth glued to a styrofoam box girder. A fix is only possible for a prof. upholstery craftsman. These old engines give revenge when you crank them cold too high, they have only 4.5 metric liters engine oil!! (Don''t push em too hard, you can drive with the pressure in the carburetor). The 81 was the first GM rwd driven car with a 4 speed auto tranny, they had at this time many probs with failing 4th gear lock-ups. This persevered until 86 as GM produced the latest B,C,G-body (as far i remeber) rwd cars. GM at this decade never built quality cars with good clearance, positive camber steering angle, high output (2.3L quad 200hp e.g) troublefree mechanics or a durable painting. Everything was just chromed plastic or false wood not worth the penny GM charged for it, but it was FUN!! Light years away from a S-Class Mercedes a 7 BMW or a Toyota Super Saloon 2.8i. I had in 1989 a 82 Buick Electra Park Avenue 350 cid. And it was fun!

I redid the headliner on my 85 caprice Landau myself a few years ago. I wouldn't know how to take that styrofoam cardboard out of that four door car, my Landau was 2 doors which provided more space
@junkman6456

usually you have to remove the windscreen or the rear window. This cars have glued windows. The best practice to get the funnel uhm headliner out of the car is to prior remove all seats.

I read your comment about keeping it and I was thinking the same thing. In another 20 years that red interior is going to be something to behold. Too many of these early 80's boats are getting crushed. If you keep that shit box it just might surprise you in terms of value in the future, yes $300 well spent.
