Then when they break loose work them out until they get hard to turn then run them back in not only will the penetrating oil help lube the threads but you will clean the threads when running them back and forth. Failure! But that's a good thing... I mean it. I truly appreciate the fact that you uploaded this video despite the fact that the engine needs a full rebuild or even replacement. One can learn as much, if not more, from failure as we can from success. It is the failures that make the successes matter. If nothing else, this video you made shows viewers the proper steps to determine whether or not an engine is stuck, and why it might be stuck through those steps - eliminating, one by one, the likely cause. You were very descriptive and right on point at every step. A man who shares his failures is an honest man, and is worth investing in his next pursuit of success. I just subscribed. Looking forward to your future efforts. -Greg

Those Galaxies are some really nice old cars. cool that you tried at least
@viewericeberg3 жыл бұрын
A few months ago I paid 250 bucks for a 61 Galaxie. Had been sitting on a farm for 30 years. All four doors were stuck.Trunk was stuck. All four wheels were stuck.352 FE,stuck.No trunk floor or fuel tank.Floor pans shot too. I haven’t given up on getting her freed up,but it’s not looking good. I can say that after watching several videos of people getting engines freed up way to easily,I can certainly relate to this. Plugs were hard to get out (like yours). But finally I can say that I have seen an engine that looks worse than mine. One thing you did show me is that I probably haven’t put enough diesel in it to soak the cam. Don’t think the original half gallon is enough. Thanks.

That Fastback was normally a XL trait, as is the steering wheel. My parents had a 1969 LTD, 390, 2V...and a 3:10 rear axle ratio. It would get up and go. Those cars were lighter than most would think..3600 lbs. My parents bought it used in 1971....shiwing 56k. A few years later, Dad found out it was 156k as the owner was a traveling sales rep for PS, MD, DE, VA, WV, NC. I ended up driving it some my junior year in HS and to college. Notorious for oil return holes in the head for clogging up..from Quaker State Oil. We repaired that issue, and had to remove a head due to exhaust leaks. Dad sold it in the mid 1980s..it had been sitting in the yard for a while. It was showing about 60k...so it had about 215k...and it still ran well. I wish I had it now...18mpg highway. The FE was great. They also had a 1973 Marquis Brougham, 429PI...yep, early model 73...I verified UT. Factory timing was 14 BTD.

Some thoughts from a self taught shade tree mechanic. I'm no expert. But, I can't help wondering why he thought that motor might still be ok after seeing all of the rust and no oil filler cap on the valve cover. When that motor stopped running...weather it was seized or just turned off...we know some of the valves are always left open. Which allows moisture to get into the cylinders where rust will definitely form - eventually. If he starts a rusty motor like that, the rings on those rusty cylinders are often destroyed and those valve seats are most likely pitted. And then he's left with a chronic smoker, with poor compression on those particular cylinders. I think if he really wanted to save that motor, he should just do it right and pull it apart. A complete gasket kit is less than $100 I'm sure. At least pull the heads... Clean the cylinders & valves. And while it's on the stand anyway roll it over and make sure the bearings are aren't scored at the very least. maybe it needs nothing - not even a re-ring & hone. but at least he'd know it'd be safe to run it without trashing it. And why he left it in weeds to work on when he could've easily moved out to the clearing with all the other cars is another mystery. He seems like a very nice young man...And if he has fun tearing apart old motors...Then I say, "have at it Hoss" It was an entertaining post.

With the rockers off and valvetrain closed you could hook a pancake air compressor up to a compression tester and give a cylinder a 125psi shot of compression which on a 390 with a 4.05" bore would be like 1400 pounds pushing down on the piston. Just find a piston near tds on each side that when moving down rotate the crank in opposite direction. Air pressure left bank to turn her one direction the air pressure right bank to turn her back but you need to bleed off the air each time.

Regarding the paper thin frames: They did it for another reason. Ford wanted the quietest riding car in the world and to help with such a lofty goal they made the frames really soft and the bodies really stiff. That's why this era ford has so few body mounts. The frame was allowed to flex under the car and the body acted sort of like a unibody and helped support the frame. It worked, some test showed that the ford cars were quieter than a Rolls Royce.

I'm under the assumption you're not married? If so, man, she is an angel. The 1969 Galaxie is an awesome car. My dad had a 69 Custom 500.
