When I left El Paso in the mid 70's to work in Houston I sure missed the tortillas my grandma made. So like you said practice. Back then there was no internet so my tortillas came out rock hard. So I called my Aunt's for instructions. I even make sopapillas with the same recipe. Just cut the tortilla in half and place in cooking oil let them puff up and voila. Cover with cinnamon and sugar or honey. Julia Childs eat your heart out. Can't wait for Elephant Butte Lake to open up to fish and camp out.

You do a great job of coming up with slants on subjects that others have overlooked. Like making tortillas in camp... If you take the time and s bit of effort, you can use a pieces of tortilla just like a spoon. The thumb and index finger with the middle finger method holding the piece of tortilla just right. And what can beat a great burrito? Keep up the good work. You provide practical useful info that anybody can use. And not cost an arm and leg. Or even in a real emergency. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏 be safe.

"We're at home so we can [accurately ] use these measuring tools" ... LoL. I see mom didn't teach you how to use measuring implements. However, everyone knows the best cooks just eyeball everything anyway, so all is good. Love tortillas, they keep much longer than other kinds of breads. Great with peanut butter and jelly, too!

It works with a lot of foods. The pro's call it triggering or thresholding. Try a dash of cayanne pepper in milk, freshest tasting milk you ever sipped. Soups, stews, whatever. The idea is not to add hot, but to trigger the taste buds. Cayanne works great on cuts too. Helps clotting and kills bacteria. Works in the kitchen and the first aid.

@Kowboy USA while nomadimg around the SW USA, I always buy tortillas because they last longer, and I like them better. I never had ANY problem buying tortillas even as bread was sold out... UNTIL I shopped at towns that were inside Native reservation lands. Then, I witnessed EVERYONE just looking at empty tortilla shelves and available white bread on the shelves wondering what to do for food. Some turned to middle east pita and nan as an option.

Hey James when you're at the house easiest way to make perfect tortillasis to roll the dough out on a large cutting board and use a pie pan or top of a gallon ice cream pail to make perfect circles. Just rewad the dough up rinse and repeat. When I'm out in the field I like to use the pre-made mix. Otherwise I just carry a small bottle of oil instead of butter or lard. I'm sure you could also use gee, but I haven't tried that myself. Anyway love the video keep it up

@@JunkyardFox incidentally, I'm in Panama at the moment, and this country has us under a very harsh lockdown, as well as ley seca/dry law so no alcohol sold. Many items are in shortage - I literally can't even get lard. I made tortillas after your video inspired me (because a homemade tortilla is always better). I made it with butter too, and they were delicious. Unfortunately, being from New Mexico and Colorado, we can't get fresh green Chiles of the hatch variety down here, but I had some canned ones stockpiled, and they were great with eggs, green chile, and cheese! James, They say a picture is worthy a thousand words. A video is worth at least 10,000 words. Your are explaining everything to much. Let the video talk. Same with your desert a frame and BBQ rat. You know a ton more then I do so don't put yourself down. Excellent videos. Let the video talk
