this reminds me of when i was kid and we would make stews, didn't have much money so just about anything would go into it. We use to make a stew with potatoes, onion, carrots, any type of meat, almost any vegitable and boiled tomatoes. Still a favorite, keep up the good work man. One thing we use to do to make stuff stretch is get boil in bag rice and a can of chunky stew soup, one bag of rice per person and a little stew on top makes a little go farther.

A little tip for the peppers, once you have roasted them loosely wrap them in plastic wrap or even in a plastic bag and allow them to sweat until you're comfortable to handle them, the skins will be much easier to peel, but still leave a little of the char on for that smokey flavour
@cowboysmith35563 жыл бұрын
i actually have eaten this quite a bit, i always add some smoked sausage and eat it with some cornbread on the side. its a great warm you up meal on a cold day. nice background music to, and it is not so loud that the viewer can't hear what you're saying. nice job.

I made the stew tonight. I used pablano peppers as I am not inclined to spicy food. I am diabetic so I do not eat potatoes, I left them out. I added two chicken legs to make both from scratch. Spices were the same as the recipe. I found the soup very flavorful and enjoyed it very much. I will be making it again. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the recipe. My wife recently came down with gout and we've been looking for recipes to cut down on her meat intake. This stew hits the spot. I've made it twice now and it's definitely going to become a comfort food at our house. We don't even bother with the mushrooms, the potatoes and chiles stand on their own. Gordon Ramsay would scarf three bowls of this stuff!

Nicely done, James! Great music, too! You asked us to chime in on camping stews...we always take this one for when we need something, easy, quick and hearty (you never know when you'll get back to camp exhausted, wet and cold). Equal parts Dinty Moore beef stew and Hormel chili w/ beans, mixed together with some ketchup and a little Tabasco sauce over the top to taste. Don't laugh, it's a lot better than it sounds and when you're exhausted, it's an easy, quick life saver.

I agree about the garlic. Allot of cooks go way overboard with it. I remember going on a cruise years ago. Everybody would always tell me how good the cruise food was, but to me it was terrible. Everything tasted the same. Smothered in garlic. To me, if youre a good cook, you want multiple flavors to come through in a dish. Your stew looks awesome brother. I love potato soup. Bacon makes it even better!!👍

Hi, Junkyard Fox. I absolutely love your videos. By the way, when you roast peppers, and then remove the chared pepper skins, you throw away a lot of vitamins and minerals. It probably doesn't really matter, if you have a basically well balanced diet. But if you're out in the field, you might need all the nutrition you can get. You might want to steam the peppers, or cook them in some way that you don't destroy the nutrition in the skins. I never peel cucumbers, carrots, potatoes, really any vegetables.

This would also be a good way to make a small game catch more filling, but I bet this has been covered in the comments. Pulled meat from a critter would add a bit of protein and taste, but not entirely necessary either, as what you made looks pretty darned tasty by itself. Good to have options. How about making something similar with wild-picked materials?
