I especially love how they gave the head those sort of quick, twitchy movements that you usually see with birds. I know Pteranodon wasn't a bird, but seeing as it may have acted something like one (it was basically a huge pelican, behavior-wise) the look fits, not to mention the fact that it's _terrifying_.
@green_man86257 жыл бұрын
Actually all dinosaurs were related to birds and hence survivors of the meteorite had evolved or devolved which ever way you look at it became birds
@CJCroen13937 жыл бұрын
I'm aware of that. I don't know what that has to do with Pteranodon, though, seeing as Pteranodon isn't a dinosaur.

I know this isn't a real creature but it's just beautiful! Looking at it makes me want to go up to it and admire it's beauty. The eye details and everything is amazing.. And for an animatronic it's so graceful! This is what I love about practical effects vs digital ones, you really get a feel for what's actually filmed (rather than every creature being CG, although CG does have its good moments too)

Jason Matthews, the key artist on the Pteranodon, sculpted a maquette based on Crash McCreery’s concept art. From that maquette, the crew built an adult Pteranodon suit that had a thirty-five-foot wingspan and articulated cloth wings. The crew also constructed two fiberglass heads, one that was rod-controlled and another that was radio-controlled. Winston crewmember Mark Viniello performed in the Pteranodon suit, standing on stilts, his head fitted into the neck of the creature. More to come! JA

Hey VicariousReality7, We believe the best approach to creating fantasy movie creatures that seem "alive" is to blend both Practical and Digital approaches, using each for what they do best to fool the audience. When an audience doesn't believe something is "real," even though it may look cool, the film loses its visceral, emotional impact. -Matt

Keith Beckett Those were more accurate Pteranodons. These ones were true mutants, probably similar to the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World which explains why they were locked up in that cage.

I dunno, the teeth, females with big crests and implied aquaphobia certainly docked them a few points for me. JW's Pteranodons were hideously shrinkwrapped and had those bizarre eyebrow ridges (plus the grasping bird feet, but JP3's had those too), but at least they were toothless, short-crested 'cause they were all female and could swim.
@Kiabugboy6 жыл бұрын
Anatomical accuracy aside, the way they portray the pteranodons in jp3 feels much more like an animal behaving on instincts and curiosity, In JW they feel more like swarms of flesh eating monsters and it's really terrible

That particular shot was CGI, but like you, it took me until recently to realize this. There are two shots where the practical Pteranodon is used. Thats true ,it had simmilar beaks as birds have today, and some birds do have small dents in theyr beaks,that once was believed to have been remnants of teeths.you find these dents especially in fish eating species like seagulls and simmilar birds.And even ducks have them. but its not considered real teeth like dinosaurs had. But JP dinosaurs and animals were artificially created and was not real dinsoaurs even if they looked like it, so they could have had anything

I still think the JP3 Pteranodons look better than the JW ones, though both got their pros and cons. JP3: pretty accurate size, pretty well muscular, the large soul-piercing eyes, but their wings are a little too shrinkwrapped(you can see the joints of the wingfinger!), the feet are completely wrong(digitigrated and being able to grasp, while in real life they couldn't and their feet were plantegrated like our feet), there are no signs of sexual dimorphism, and the biggest crime: they gave them teeth! (nodon litterally means Toothless) JW: Accurate curvature and pointiness of the beak and has no teeth, they all lack crests because they're female(fixing the sexual dimorphism-problem of JP3), are shown to dive and swim which is accurate. Problems? GOOD LORD ARE THEY SKINNY! I mean, it's like the park starves them to death, I'm surprised they can even walk. The head is also made too wide and they were given these cartoonishly exaggerated eyebrow-ridges with an angry expression
