"Must go faster!" The T-Rex's escape from its paddock and the ensuing attack in Jurassic Park is one of the best moments of the entire film, and one of the most iconic sequences of all time. But, it required a lot of work and ingenuity to make it come to life. I still remember sitting in the cinema watching the T-Rex attack.. you could have heard a pin drop...and when I looked around, just about every jaw had hit the floor. Kids these days will never know how leaps-and-bounds advanced that scene was to what had went before. It was like jumping out of a rickshaw straight into a ferrari.

I'll never forget my aunt bringing me and my sister to see this opening night at the movies in 1993 and I can tell you it was absolutely amazing. As a kid I was mesmerized I was convinced they were real dinosaurs. When this scene started and the Rex showed itself for the first time everybody in the theater almost shit their pants, and the sound when it roared was deafening felt like the whole place was vibrating, it was an awesome experience I'll never forget as a kid.

Great video. Jurassic Park is still to this day the best cinematic experience I've had. There have been better films but nothing matches the scale and craft that went into this film. As an 8 year old obsessed with dinosaurs it simultaneously thrilled and scared the shit out of me.

Well said! I was 12 when this came out in 93 and could not have hit at a better time for me. The T-Rex attack left me temporarily traumatized in the best way possible :) I saw it 9 times in the theater - no joke!

My favourite story about the Paddock scene is the fact that the part where the T-Rex goes for the kids and cracks the window. The kids were screaming for real because the glass wasn't meant to crack like that - it was just the weight of a huge ass metal dinosaur.

Jurassic Park is the only movie that made the ilusion of real donosaur on screem believable. I never seem organic CGI move so realistic.

I prefer practical effects whenever possible, but cgi gets a bad rap sometimes, there's a big reason why some cgi looks good, and other (often) times it looks shitty, and that's sometimes due to limited turn around time. The Plant of the Apes movies all have fantastic/believable digital effects because the animators are given time to fully render the effects, that's not always the case.

I always think practical effects should come first. But when things aren’t possible with practical effects (like recreating a huge Tyrannosaurus), then you start using CGI. Two movies I can think of that go by this thinking are Terminator 2, and of course Jurassic Park; and to this day, they still look FANTASTIC!!!

Jurassic World, even if I give it leeway for its obvious flaws (product placement, flat characters, convoluted writing), definitely did not have that innovative spirit. It gave the distinct feeling that it was almost entirely shot on a sound stage, failing to make me forget that's what they're doing for even a minute. Even the jungle/nature scenes felt like a resort had to be juuuuuuust outside the frame, presumably so the actors wouldn't ever get too sweaty or actually accidentally get a non-bottled tan. It actually made me go back and watch the generally panned sequels to Jurassic Park, just to remember what it feels like to watch a disaster where the people who made it actually tried, still.

I wondered that too...I think it’s because the Rex in particular largely involved the use of animatronics rather than CGI. It looks so much better.

The people that worked with stop-motion had to get the 'feeling' of the dinosaurs in their bodies to be able to animate with the puppets. Because it was done one shot at the time, they used their imagination to feel their way into making these animals look real. Only after every single image was shot, would they get a sense of how their work turned out. Then when they made the stop-motion input devices for the animated dinosaurs, all that skill and imagination embodied by the stop-motion guys flowed onto the screen. Nowadays animators don't go through that process of having to imagine anything, they have a computer image to work with. They don't have to embody the T-Rex in their minds and bodies, because its just there on the screen.

Interesting take, maybe even a valid one but you can't fault him for portraying scenes in a certain way. It's his style and his art. And art, as it always has been, is subjective. Tarantino's strength lies in the dialogue and the build-up. If you don't like it, don't watch; simple as that.

@chad - I attended a film school and therefore was surrounded by Tarantino horsewhipping dicksuckers all day. It drove me insane. It made me extremely critical of him. I know he is a very good director. What bothers me is the content and the stories. He covers up bad or just average parts of his stories with grandiloquence.

Jurassic Park is still one of the greatest achievements in movie history. What the team behind Jurassic Park managed to do back in 1992-1993, is nothing short of amazing, they did the impossible, even 25 years later, the effects are 100% convincing. That can't be said for many other movies, if any at all.

5:27 "Spielberg wanted the dinosaurs to be viewed as animals, not B-movie monsters". This sentence alone explains why Jurassic World will never hold a candle to Jurassic Park. Atrocious story and characters aside, and in addition to the plastic-looking CGI and outdated creature models (outdated even compared to JP), the creators of JW looked to create movie monsters, not real animals, and that is what we got. Ugly, poorly articulated, shrink-wrapped monstrosities (looking at the "Pteradons" and "Dimorphodons" specifically), as opposed to the tangible, sleek, and most importantly BELIEVABLE, dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. I can only hope that the creators of JW2 realize this and don't make the same mistakes they made in the first one, although I can't honestly say I have hope for the franchise after World :(

@@mikethedinoman8970 How so? It's literally the same opinion shared by MOST people...Jurassic Park is sick and has stood the test of time, and Jurassic World was mediocre and forgotten a year later. And I recently saw JW: Fallen Kingdom and it's just as forgettable, if not moreso.

10:00 (and many times after) Its not a Jeep. Its a Ford Explorer. A toddler could notice the difference. For a channel like Cinefix, that has a keen eye for detail, its a bit disconcerting that you couldn't tell the difference. There is a big blue FORD badge on the back for Pete's sake.

As much as it is interchangeable in this film to discuss the Explorer that way, that's what I was thinking lol It is wrong to discuss the Ford as a Jeep when there are clearly actual jeeps in the film. Should have just said explorer or tour vehicle.

Just amazing. When I was sitting in the theater seeing this scene the first time was chilling. I wonder after seeing this video what Ray Harryhausen thoughts were to see Stop Motion Animation evolve into what CG is known as today? It blows my mind that to this day some stop motion is likely still used during production. It one Hell of a legacy he left us in his passing.

Stop calling it a jeep, its a Ford Explorer. Also, the T-rex isn't a He, it's a She. For an expert giving the background and insight into a film, you keep making a lot of errors in this video. Am I being overly picky? Yes. I would expect most people watching this to be film enthusiasts and care about the little things like this.

Just like I said in another comment, I think it's just too simplify it. I know it's a Ford Explorer and the only Jeep in the film is the Jeep Sahara but I call it a jeep. Cause when talking about the movie I always say "My favorite scene is when the T-Rex breaks out and attacks the Jeep" instead of "The T-Rex attacks the Ford Explorer" cause it just sounds like you're being unnecessarily and oddly specific for no reason.
