I feel a time traveler made this and it went something like this. -Excellent lets make the game for VR. -Whats that sir? -Oh wait its the 90s we cant do that yet. Just make the entire game be physics based and controlled solely with a simulation of your hand interactions and you looking around.

Trespasser is one of my all time favorite games. I still play through it from time to time, imagining what the game could have been like if the developers weren't suddenly hurried to finish the game when it was nowhere close to being finished, effectively forcing them to parse what they had up to that point into a janky 1st person shooter.

Something I definitely recommend checking out is Malediction chapter 1 (there’s a second chapter as well), it’s an interactive youtube rpg style game and it’s really awesome. More people need to know about the series (yes it’s literally playable on youtube, stuffy studios is the channel that it’s on)

I feel like KZbin reviewers are losing the ability to distinguish between having fun doing something that’s hard and rewarding and just being forced to do something that’s unintuitive and annoying. Then there’s just media that’s bad in the right kind of way that it becomes great, hard to achieve but it happens, this also doesn’t mean it’s actually good… if this game came out last year trust me no one would be making videos about how great it is that it’s so fukn broken…

What's context? I mean, you're right. If the Ford Model T came out last year no one would be claiming it to be a feat of engineering. If the Apollo Guidance Computer (y'know, one of the computers on the Lunar Module that helped us LAND ON THE FUCKING MOON) came out last year, people would claim it sucks, and ask why they'd put out a computer with 1% the computing power of a cheapo $10 tablet. The point, that you're missing harder than you trying to shoot a dinosaur in this game, is that it is the first game to really have a robust physics engine and have ragdoll physics. That's three years before Max Payne, which was touted for its object interactivity, which is still not quite on the level of this. Then there's the fact that this game came out SIX(!) years before Half-Life 2, the game that made its name on its physics-based puzzles and world interactions. They didn't even use an in-house physics engine, but the third party Havok engine! Granted, they definitely refined it and made it sing, but it's still six years' worth of technology improvement. I know this game is twice your age, so you're used to more polygons in a current protagonist's dick than contained in the entirety of Final Fantasy 7 (for your convenience due to your age, I'm referring to the original here released in 1997, not the remake), but one should absolutely keep in mind the context and timeframe of something's existence, and not just compare it to modern standards. The Pyramids and the Great Wall aren't impressive just because we could build them with stronger materials and in a fraction of the time due to current technology. The moon landing isn't blase because the phone in your hand could run circles around NASA's entire computer collection from 1969. Now you can say that you think that the hand mechanic is bad, and you can be justified for thinking so, since taste is subjective after all. Just don't go claiming that as fact, since there's an entire game that's all about that mechanic that disproves that no one likes that concept, and there's people that absolutely had fun playing it. All this is really just a long winded way of backing up Zenny's statement of you just crying and screaming into the void that people are having fun wrong. You're not the centre of the universe, I'm sorry but it's true. I won't even piss in your cereal bowl by telling you you're not even the centre of the world. Well, okay, I fucked that. Mea culpa. People like different things, there's no one way to have fun, and for most people they'll even have multiple levels of fun with one thing. Even your statement of people not claiming something is fun because it's broken is false. Look around this site, and there are absolutely videos about people enjoying games that are janky beyond belief. It's not cool to act like you're beyond having the same fun the "plebs" are having. It's fucking cringe. I guarantee there is something you enjoy unironically that others think is trash. So please, for your own sake, get off your high horse, enjoy the things you enjoy, and stop pretending you're better than others for the things they enjoy.
