Do you notice dirty audio when using the ADAT in and out with USB connected to the computer. I am using another converter that has ADAT in and out connected to the ES-8 and ES-8 connected to computer, when the audio is captured via ADAT into the DAW it sounds a bit dirty thin? Is the ES-8 able to pass clean audio from the ADAT in and outs via class compliant USB? You have lot of synths so I am sure you have tested this ? Thank you!!

Did not notice any noisy or distorted audio with the ES-8. I also use the USB from time to time and so far no issues.

Good video. Looking to buy an ES-8 to use with Propellerhead Reason & modular gear. Never seen anyone using this kind of set-up but I imagine it would work somewhat similar to your set-up.

...... sounds like it's a bit of a shit show on Windows with ASIO4ALL route. If you can use the ADAT i/o then all good by the sounds of it.

Do you need Bitwig to get this work or can i use for example FLStudio?
@mossgraber

It works with every software that can generate CV values. E.g. Ableton added such devices as well. Not sure about FLStudio but I think they have something similar. Expert Sleepers has also a device which can do this.

thanks for this video, if I may ask, if I connect the es8 via adat to my audio interface, (for example presonus 1810c), do I need my daw, or does the audio from the es8 comes out straight through the audio interface to my mixer/speakers, thx
@mossgraber
@mossgraber 5 жыл бұрын
That depends on if your audio device works without a computer, so if you hear audio from the other inputs you should also get the audio via the ES8.

Hello Jürgen, will this module perfectly work via ADAT on my Scarlett 18i20? It isn't DC coupled but it does have ADAT in/out.

I have no experience with the device but I use it in such a configuration with my Steinberg UR824.

Great video! Got an ES-8 a few days before Bitwig announced the branded version. Too bad. ;) But nonetheless, I love the original ES-8 just the same (almost the same, I guess). :)

Thanks for this tutorial, it helped a lot (and also thanks a lot for the push extension)! Do you mind if I ask if you are sending any clock signals from bitwig to your modules via bitwig's "hw clock out"? It seems like it doesnt work for me or maybe I am missing something... and I really want to go and make some funky music ))

Just did a test: Add a "HW CV OUT" module and send it to an output of ES-8. Then insert a "Beat LFO" into one of the modulation slots of the "HW CV OUT". Move the SHAPE parameter fully to the right and map the LFO to the CV output value.

The reason to purchase this unit is to take advantage of dc coupled, why just 4 dc coupled inputs only, anyway to expand the inputs on the ES-8 it's not other choice than add a interface and had to be dc coupled hard to find Thanks for the video, I can see the advantage to play from the computer to use the external modules with the ES-8

Hi, bro. This extension is awesome! Can you give me older version of DrivenByMoss for Bitwig Studio 2.2.2? I can't find it anywhere.

I was a little confused by your audio setup. Are you not actually connecting the ES-8 to Bitwig over USB? If I follow correctly, you are using your Yamaha audio interface connected to the computer, and using its dual ADAT in and out ports to send to/from the ES-8 and the Behringer preamp? So you're effectively using the ES-8 like a combination ES-3/ES-6 instead of as a USB audio interface?
@mossgraber
@mossgraber 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is correct. In my studio I use a Steinberg UR824, which has 2 ADAT ins and outs (this is the setup I used for the demo in the video). To the first I have connected a Behringer ADA8200 und to the second the ES-8. The USB is not required for this setup. So, if this is the (only) setup you are after the ES-3 would be a cheaper alternative. But when I am not in the studio (e.g. on stage) I use the ES-8 with USB and don't have to bring another audio interface.

... and the Bitwig demo would look the same if done via USB.

Jürgen Moßgraber Thanks for clarifying that. I actually already have an ES-8, ES-3, and ES-6. I thought the ES-8 would simplify things, but in order to monitor audio out of my DAW, I need to use another audio interface. ASIO4All doesn’t seem to work very well with my iConnectivity interface... lots of glitching. It doesn’t have an ADAT interface on it, unfortunately. I used to use a FireWire MOTU 828mkII, but no FireWire on laptops anymore. I guess I should upgrade to something like an 828es, which has dual ADAT interfaces like your Steinberg. Probably the most sensible approach. Thanks again for your insight!

Why can't you monitor the DAW audio through the ES-8? Just ran out of channels?
@deastman2
@deastman2 6 жыл бұрын
Expert Sleepers Well, that would require additional dedicated modular infrastructure in the form of a stereo headphone amp with level control and dual VCA, mixer, or similar to go to my monitors. Plus mic preamps with phantom power and 1/4” inputs with gain controls and metering for other instruments. You know, the sort of functionality normally provided by an audio interface. Anyway, I’ve gone ahead with a MOTU 828es to use in conjunction with my ES modules, so... problem solved!

You can buy a cheap Behringer UMC 1820 Audiointerface and connect it to the ES 8, should work fine :-)
