Phil is an icon! This song is iconic. Playing the drums and singing at the same time is difficult at best and he does it with ease. Love your reactions!

He wrote it, sang it and played the drums......he was originally the drummer of Genesis a long time ago ( Peter Gabriel) was the lead singer then . He quit and the group searched for a new lead singer and after trying out several people, they somehow decided to give a listen to their drummer and lo and behold they found their new lead singer for the next few decades and many hit songs. Phil is a great singer, song writer, drummer etc.

Someone out there needs to hear this. This song never would have happened if Phil's wife didn't leave him for the interior decorator. There he was...his band Genesis was just starting to take off after a decade + of mediocre success. His wife gives him an ultimatum and he chooses the year-long tour he'd just signed up for. She left him and took the kids. And it ripped his heart out. He had never written much music before. He was the lead singer of a band. Then he writes this song to begin his solo career. It's one of the most known songs from the 80s and considered one of the greatest drum fills of all time. Phil filled the greater part of two albums with his pain over the divorce-two hugely successful albums. The worst humiliation-the worst thing-that could happen to him made him a global superstar. His career in Genesis was huge and his solo career was huge at the same time-for maybe a decade or more. His solo success fueled his band success and visa versa. And all of that was ignited by the worst days of his life. Prior to all that, another hard thing happened when the lead singer of his band left. People didn't think the band would survive. But the drummer, Phil, stepped up and took the lead singer's place. From that moment forward, the band became more and more successful. The point of all this being that those days and those events you think are going to ruin you hold the seed of something greater. Phil's an average looking dude with a lot of talent who rode the wave of difficulty, first to become a singer, then to become the most famous man on the planet. He's a legend and a GOAT. And he got there by walking through the most difficult times of his life.

He is amazing!!! He is one of 3 artists to sell 100 million albums in a group and solo.... he was the drummer for Genesis and then when Peter Gabriel left, he took over vocals... later on his son, Nick Collins took over drums for him....

You’re welcome! The 80’s were absolutely AWESOME! No u wouldn’t know Phil was a drummer first and probably don’t know a lot about him and that’s ok. But now u know and u really need to dive into his catalog of tunes! U won’t regret it! Us older folks adore him., and btw, we ALL played air drums when this song played✌🏻😎

THE diffinitive 80's track it WAS the 80's, it was ground breaking for its time, the drum machine breaking (3 min 37sec) in to the track. Used in movies & TV shows for decades after. 1982 an incredible time to be alive 😅yep us old bastards are still kicking off.

The reason why everything feel into place bc that's the way Phil organized it. Having in the intro having different instruments come in one at a time all the way to drum solo. In case you don't know he has played drums since he was 3 . He always said he was a drummer that could sing a bit. Phil is like an onion, many layers, drummer, singer writer, he also played with genesis( the band) and a solo career which both did very well very well on charts. Disney approach him & wanted him to write music, & sing for the animated movie Tarzan. He was a child actor & did some acting as adult. Phil with all of his accomplishments should be in the Hall of Fame!!

B4 Phil. Was a solo artist. He was the drummer for a group called Genesis for years and years. Then he decided to go solo. And became a star all over again so lady luck smiled upon him twice in his lifetime because she knew how good it was

You do know that he was the drummer for Genesis, right? He was a drummer before he was a singer. And drumming was his first love and how he defined himself. “I’m a drummer who sings” that is why it is almost unbearably sad that he can no longer play because of nerve damage. Such a loss, for him and for us.

Gentlemen, I see you have only reacted to 1 Queen song before. You don’t know what you’re missing! I’ll suggest 3 songs/performances for you to react to and I bet you’ll want to hear more. First off start with Bohemian Rhapsody, the official video. Use your headphones or you miss a lot with this band. Then check out Somebody to Love, live at Montreal 1981. The official video of this is epic as well but they are different so start with the live. Then check out White Queen, live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975. This is early Queen but a fantastic performance. The song was written by Brain May (guitarist) when he was in college about a girl in his Biology class that he had a crush on but was too shy to talk to her. By the time he got up the nerve to do it she was already dating someone else. I tell you this because the backstory will help you understand the lyrics. Their group is fascinating and one of the best rock bands ever. Freddie Mercury the best frontman and rock voice ever.
