I wonder why else Subway, McDonald's, Dominos, 7-11, or even gas stations would stay open late at awkward times. I used to think the reason they stayed open 24/7 was to serve midnight cravings and hungry graveyard shift workers during their lunch hour at 2am. People such as college kids, video gamers, subway train operators, bus drivers, truck drivers, nurses, police officers, ambulance, late night security guards, late-night partiers, bartenders, bouncers, strippers, pimps, nightclub workers, janitors, homeless folks and normal folks. But you're right, it's totally weird to have a midnight craving or a Subway sandwich at 2am in the big city. Like, who's even awake at that hour??? So weird.
