Also, while feeding the damn moose is a very bad idea, if you ARE going to do so, at least put the food in the palm of your hand and hold it out to the moose. Holding food between your fingers and offering it to an animal with very strong jaws is a great way to lose fingers. Not that the moose would bite them off on purpose, just that if it misjudged where the fruit is it's got the bite strength to EASILY remove your appendages.
@Xanthelei2 ай бұрын
@@daerdevvyl4314 This is true of every grazing herbivore, ever. One of the first things I was taught as a kid growing up around horses (our neighbor had three) was when you offer food that isn't a big bundle of grass, you put it in the middle of your palm and spread your hand as wide as you can so it cups down. That way even if the horse isn't careful they won't get a good grip on your skin. While most horses are careful taking treats, that seems to be a domestication thing - I'm not sure I'd want to hand feed a small treat to ANY wild herbivore, even with my hand spread flat!

That being said, the statute clearly states that the prohibition against feeding wildlife is in effect and current as of January, 2024. Far from being some "meaningless" (as you put it) piece of arcane law, buried deep within an ancient and dusty tome of forgotten historical law, this statute is up to date and enforced, and for good reason. As a Canuk I can tell you, Moose are extremely intelligent quadrupedal ungulates. They have an amazing memory and can remember individual persons. Many have compared the intelligence of a moose to that of a wild horse, yet unlike horses moose tend to be solitary for the most part. Most folks are afraid of a moose because of their imposing stature and of course they have seen videos of moose charging, for example: by a cow with calves or a male during the rut. During the Canadian winters Moose tend to be less grumpy and more appreciative of carrots or an apple accidentally dropped from your car while you are parked admiring them.

As a Canuck you should know not to feed the moose........

@@jev1110 feeding? Did I say people go feed every moose you encounter? I have seen people accidentally drop apples or carrots, thus my comment. Get off your pedestal Karen. Also if you are going to point fingers make sure you do not leave evidence of you breaking a national park rule. That means do not drink at Crater lake.

@@jev1110 We are responsible, kind, and polite, If that is what you mean by "different." We know how to appreciate one of our national animals and go to great lengths to protect them. I have four moose that live in my property. I am proud they feel safe in my land.

Yeah when you got animals as big as Volkswagen bugs you should probably have a door that isn't 75% glass. 😂
