I made V1312 a couple of years ago in a cross-weave midweight linen and really love the shape. Warning that it's super-long and that I found the bodice and armholes to be tight based on my recommended size. I get many compliments when wearing it. Would pair very well with French-fold shrug or various cropped jackets/sweaters.

OHHHH yes!! with my French fold shrug! I haven't cut this pattern yet but I'll do a bodice toile and double check the length. Thanks!

I love Sandra Betzina too I don't know if you have noticed but a lot of her power sewing videos have been showing up on KZbin. They are loading 2 every friday. I hope I hope they catch on I think they could pick that right back up where they left off. There is so much good information in there and I have been sewing since I was 12 years old. You never know all of it do you ? I think both of your tunics look nice But I would prefer the 1 you Cut down in the pink. Good job kiddo.

I made Vogue 1410 3 years ago when I came back to sewing. The main seams are French seams but the neck and arm holes are just turned over after being clipped which I did not like. The overall shape was a bit full for me so I slimmed it down a bit. If I made it again I would definitely bias bind the neck and arm holes and probably not bother to French seam the sides- perhaps it is to add structure? I used a cotton fabric that had some structure anyway - not a poplin but heavier than lawn. I loved your altered babydoll dress by the way- the hemline transformed it. Look forward to seeing the Chanterelle trousers as I too have that pattern to make up for the summer. 😊 Lynne

I do not like those folded over edges at all! definitely going for a bias binding. I think they probably do use the French seams for structure so I'll have to think about that when I pick my fabric. I was thinking of a lightweight linen which could probably benefit from extra structure. we shall see :)

Hi Gini, I tried to make the Lynn Mizono 1410 what seems like decades ago (when was that pattern first published!?). Anyway, it was so long ago that I can't remember the particulars, but I believe I abandoned the project for both sizing and construction problems. "SewMyTime" mentioned the seams and armholes; I vaguely recall having the same issue with the neck and armholes, but I believe the French seams are valuable because they contribute to the architectural scaffolding of the design. I hope you will take 1410 on. It is still such a forward-looking design and doesn't seem to "date" which really says something given that pattern's age. Also, 1410 will be a great design for the coming warmer months. I wonder how it would look in a lightweight, drapey linen instead of a fabric with more structure? Happy Sewing!

Thanks for the heads up on V1410. I will double check the neck and armholes before I start. I was thinking of doing this in a light linen which I think would be really cool for summer. That might also help with the "weightiness" that others mnentioned. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Gini so good to see you😊. As for your modifications, I agree that the original was more to my liking than the pink, and I love almost anything in pink😉. I think by making it more fitted it lost some of its Lagenlook style. 😮I love the look of the baby doll dress after you made your alterations! It looks more like a tunic dress . I’ll have to remember how reducing the gathered fabric can make such a difference. I might have to try and find the V1312, I really like the shape of the dress, thank you so much for introducing it🤗. It’s so fun to see you again, and I’m looking forward to another pattern alteration.😊💕

Thanks …very useful to look at the original and then adapted patterns. A bit of tweaking can make all the difference…and, although it takes time and effort, it can make all the difference to the finished garment. I guess we all have to find what suits best for us….but of course there’s a bit of me that just wants it to work first time!

I’m so glad you’re going to do a tutorial on altering the Chanterelles - I made a muslin for my daughter and the back looked … really bad. I don’t think there was a v-shape but the rise was waaaay too short. It’s for travel (trip to India for a wedding) and I gave up tweaking and altered some eBay ones instead. But after the panic I very much want to figure out the Chanterelles as it looks so good on all the SL people. Your videos are the best - thank you!

Thanks for the video. I had the pleasure of taking a tour of Morocco with Sandra .. she is delightful and had soooo many stories. If you can afford it .. sign up for her newsletter to learn about her next trip. I LOVE the baby doll pattern. I like to wear dresses so I would keep the even hem (maybe closer to my knee for me) but I was thinking about using some linen gingham I bought last year and I am thinking about pleating the top part to make it more solid or maybe doing some sashiko stitching to de-emphasize the horizontal lines in the yoke .. what do you think?

I’ve made the Lynn Mizono 1312 several times. It’s long and the amount of fabric makes it quite heavy, so l would definitely go for something lightweight. I like the shortened bodice but would advise a toile of some description to get the neckline right, as it has a wide neck front and shoulder if you are making the sleeveless version and was tricky to get the right fit. I haven’t managed to make the other Lynn Mizone yet but love that style as well and the pattern is in my stash.
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips on V1312 I will definitely be doing a toile of the bodice (at least). I think this one calls for 4 yards of fabric (yikes!) which does seem like it would be heavy. I was thinking of using a lightweight linen for both of these, I'll let you all know how they turn out.
@zoec4972

I love the lynn mizono long dress, but it is heavy with all the fabric and very long if you are 5 3. So i took off about an inch from the bodice to make it more empire line style. The bodice may come up tight so its worth make a toile just of the bodice. 😅

thanks Zoe, I will definitely be doing a toile I think this pattern calls for 4 yards of fabric (!!!) I'm going to use a lightweight linen and hope that helps with the weight

I feel the same way about Sandra Betzina. I bought nearly every pattern but have only made 3. I still buy them at thrift stores. Im so glad you like the ES top, its probably my favorite pattern right now and have made far too many of them. Speaking of curved front hems...that was my go to cut as well until I was cutting a dress into a tunic and somehow lifted the sides. Eureka! Not like just a shirt tail hemline but a more drastic shaping. I loved it on that knit but not sure how it would work on a woven. Just something you may want to think about for a different look.

@@thebigsewalong Not sure if you know this but Cutting Line Designs has all patterns on sale right now. Some are as low as $11. She has Parkinson's and has trouble moving around bolts so she's fazing out fabrics. Right now they are 50% off. I thought she was going to continue the business but now I don't know. I don't ever remember her having a sale on all patterns before. She was the original designer of TSW patterns, you can see the similarities. I collect her Shapes series that also have Linda's name on them, they've been reprinted as TSW patterns too. Louise did her own package illustration in addition to design. It must be so awful to be so creative and deal with Parkinson's.

@@thebigsewalong we started a year in January. The demo went fast. The cabinets came in and those were installed in sections. Island was last because we wanted the floor down before that went in. Then we had to purchase a fridge because our 20+ yo fridge decided to die! It was only moved 2 ft; I guess that was too much change. So then we decided to just get new stove and dishwasher so it would all match. Then my mom’s health took a drastic turn; no work for almost four months! Got back on it ti order counter tops. Now we just need to install shelves and connect power to island. Almost there!

I just started some chanterelles too! Are you doing the patch pocket version? I'd love any tips for sewing a curved topstitch! I'm not 100% sure yet, Judith since I haven't made it yet. If I come up with a way to soften the gathers I'll let you know but, honestly, I don't think that is going to be an issue with a smaller bust. I would be more worried about a larger bust in this style. In any case, I'll let you know how mine goes.
