More measurements!

Hi everyone this week, in preparation for our Tina Givens patterns we're going to take some crucial measurements. There aren't many and it's easy to do but they are pretty important in getting your garments to fit the way you want them to. Gini, I needed to see this. I’ve been trying to understand taking measurements and looking at finished measurements in garment construction. Back when I first learned sewing, everything fit as if the pattern was designed for me. I was one of those rare lucky kids in school that didn’t have to alter. Now here I am having to learn🤣 I love your Claire tunic/dress. The fabric is beautiful! Pink is one of my favorite colors. The brighter pinks look great on you. I look forward to next video!

Hi Gini! This is such a great video! 🤗❤️In one of Tina’s workshops you are given pages of measurements to fill in. It was so confusing, it seemed like she described it one way, and later described them another way. Never did get it right. This is so clear and the photo method is genius! I will have this done by next week 🤗. 🤗🤗🤗 this video is so valuable to us who are relatively new to garment making, I will both save and archive a copy. Again thank you so very much ☺️😘💕🩷🩷🩷🩷

Hi Judith! I'm really glad you all found this so. helpful. I know it makes my sewing life easier. It's not foolproof but it does make a huge difference and, as you said, it's simple and straightforward. I have a lot of sewing books that have lists of measurements you "need" but to be honest, when you make oversized clothes, a lot of those measurement are just unnecessary and complicated. I like things simple 😂

Gini, that was great, thank you!!! I typically flail around & hold the pattern up to myself to guesstimate lengths; this so smart. (I've been trying to be more efficient with my sewing & this is an awesome tool!!!!)

I'm so excited you're going to do some Tina givens patterns again. I just scored four of them very cheaply and I'm sure some of them are the older patterns. I've been sewing for 50 years so I'm not real concerned that I can't get it right, but it would be nice to know where the problem areas are. I got the Abercorn, UBA shirt, daffodil dress, and the Rosaline puff dress. She is such a specialized market, but you just can't find that many videos on her patterns. I just don't want to look like a demented shepherdess when I'm wearing them. Or maybe I do? Ha ha at 64 I'm not sure that I care anymore.

Very interesting! I can’t wait to do this and apply them to my patterns. I always have to shorten my patterns and hope I get it right. I keep working with patterns where there is a built in hem or an extra piece at the bottom. Not to mention sleeve length! Thanks.

I can't tell you how many times I messed up length because of a hem treatment I forgot to measure 🙄

Hi Gini, very helpful video ! It would be great if you could talk in upcoming videos on how to choose the size in oversized patterns . I never know what to do . The ease in the pattern size election sometimes is confusing and even more in oversized patterns . Love your videos !

Another great video, I would love for you to do a video tutorial on embellishments and accents that can be added to tunics, dresses, pants, etc. intentional frayed hems, floral like designs and the like. any ideas?
