For real what a beautiful person he was I actually poured out a little drink for him this morning. It was apple cider, cranberry little bit of cherry juice and a wee bit of decent scotch on top. RIP rest in Heaven good glad old soul. ❤ Happy August 1 2024 certainly a fruitful. Harvest came home today because I was able to discover the music of your talented daughter on this very Blessed harvest home Aug too. Thank goodness. I’m about to play some of her music on this channel very soon. I do totally understand, and in many ways, I can completely relate to what his struggles were as if I had walked 400 miles in his moccasins so to speak. Long live big country one of the best new wave and also traditional rock bands of the 1980s I just still to this very day can’t get enough of your music. I’ve got practically every album on vinyl. And for the other people in the band, I have excellent things to say about each and everyone of them as well. But the music was so vital and God knows it’s loved by so many people to this very day and right now the world needs this love more than ever. So I would like to say a very tender and delicate Mahalo to all of you and I myself I’m a stranger in a strange land and I’m hoping to get back to the UK someday, for a proper visit again. Respectfully and happily. Rev Adam 😊

It’s strange isn’t it. This came on after Metallica oddly enough as KZbin normally recommends more of the same music but it recommended this to me and I was born in Glasgow. And I thought in a big country was American, but my mum said ‘dad loved big country’ and I then found out they were Scottish like myself but grew up in wales. It was just really odd as I guess the Celtic vibe is in our blood. It blew me away the power of the song and you mentioning vinyl I can now remember vaguely seeing the cover on my dads vinyl collection with Nazareth etc.. he oddly died the same year my dad did 2001. Another odd thing. It was like a message beyond the grave. As life’s been rough lately. Been in a bad place and his music just elates me. Look away and field of fire. And I’m 36 now so not my era I was into nirvana in 2000 but obviously this and even prince there music surpasses nirvana by a long way, no disrespect to nirvana. It’s just very different and more complex than nirvana. Kurt would probably agree anyway. This music is power and I think his daughters cover surpassed his version of in a big country simply for the change of lyric ‘stay alive’ to ‘still alive’ not ashamed to admit her letter to her dad makes me cry as I could of wrote the same words to my dad. Me and Kirsten are probably the same age too as I was 13 when my dad went. Musician now too but nothing compared to these guys or Kirsten as only just began last few years. After a long addiction struggle from 17- this day. I can relate a lot in that respect. The highs and lows of life, you can’t predict it.

I mainly listen to metal, primarly death and black metal, pretty normal to find me listening to songs with titles like "Dechristianize", or "Time Heals Nothing", but I have a weakness.... Stuart was so f'ing amazing, and big heavy metal guy that I am, this song tears me up every time I listen to it. RIP

Are you an anomaly among your friends? I would think so. Didn't think growlers would like hard rock vocals or that opening optimistic rhythm. Maybe when they get older, they'll appreciate the finesse along w/ the intensity.

Damn I was born in 1980, and that's 20 years too late for me. I can vaguely remember music from the 80's, but what I do remember, I fell in love with. Long story short, I am thankful for epic bands like Big country. This song, as well as many others from the 80's got me through some shitty years as a teenager and adult. For me, music is why I'm still alive and kicking! I'm very grateful that I've stuck around. To everyone out there who's going through the bullshit of life, this song is dedicated to you. Keep fighting the "good" fight.

when I was 17, I heard Steeltown siting forelorn in my parent's basement. then I heard 'shadow' a few days later. I was so dumbfounded. It was like reading Shakespeare for the first time. I was exposed to worlds of emotion, landscapes of strife, valleys of despair, mountains of hope, that I did not know existed. I was also very sensitive to technically good music (Rush fan). Thanks Stuart, Tony, Bruce, Mark. You helped shape my life.

"why are faces filled with anger that should only shine with youth". I miss Stuart. "I look at backs that pushed the wall for years, stabbed my many knives and too much fear". That is just a line. Stuart was a genius and we are afraid to say it. We like BC, we miss BC, we like the new BC, and it was Bruce, Tony, Mark and Stuart that MADE BC and I will say, Stuart made it. I think Bruce, Tony and Mark are the best at their craft. Stuart made BC and I look back to 1983 and realize how important Big Country was (is).
