College is a great place to explore what you want to do but just know that what you major in at college / what you get involved in doesnt define your career trajectory!! Speaking from someone who has graduated from undergrad and have many friends in the corporate world, you can always switch paths so dont think that what you choose to do is a defining moment for the rest of your life!!! Just thought that could maybe appease some anxiety and stuff for anyone :)

I mean, Dr. Fauci was a classics major (with pre-med track on the side), and now he’s the biggest infectious disease expert in the US. Majors give you training in different skills, but how you apply those skills defines your career. And skills can be applied in A LOT of ways. Follow what skills and things you want to learn, and you’ll find what you want to do with them!

it’s really strange to me (as someone from england) that you go to college in the US not knowing what you’re going to study? it seems more like how GCSEs and high school are for us where you study a bit of everything and then choose a subject at the end whereas we choose one subject for university and study it in depth to get a degree in it! really interesting to see this different approach
@studyquill3 жыл бұрын
haha yeah, i like the liberal arts model bc i get to take a bunch of subjects but there is also a level of freedom in already being committed like you are in the UK!
@carolynbennett51023 жыл бұрын
The idea of committing to a career at 18 years old is crazy to me. I dont know how they can expect kids to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives.
@xDenituUx3 жыл бұрын
In Argentina is the same. You have to choose a career. You can then switch, but you might need to start all over again if there are no common subjects. That's why we have so many drop-outs.
@idek74383 жыл бұрын
@@carolynbennett5102 In Italy you kinda choose what you want to do at 14 when you choose which kind of high school you want to go to. There are different kinds of high schools that specialize in different subjects or fields. Obviously you can change your mind and choose a completely different path once you finish high school but it might be harder for you to succeed (because you spent the last five years focusing on something else)
