Just Announced! New COLOURIZED Commemorative Toonie! Royal Canadian Air Force 100th Anniversary!

My Dad was in the RCAF stationed in England during WWII, he served in Bomber Command. He has since passed on but I’ve ordered all of the RCM 100th anniversary coin offerings including these colorized toonies, I feel like I’m honoring his memory and service to Canada. It’s great to see the RCM put out this series of coins.

I think the coin in both painted and non-painted look beautiful. A nice touch is the display of additional aircraft designs along outer ring field. Can’t wait to trade for them with a Canadian collector to add one into my collection. Thanks for the info.

Great video, I did get confirmation that its 2 Million mintage on the colour and 1 Million on the non-colourized toonies. I decided to order the $15 Keepsake card, I'll bust out the toonies to put in my Lighthouse Vista Album. One thing to note about the Keepsake card this time is that it does not feature any other coins for 2024 like the previous keepsakes did. So its maybe a tad bit expensive, but I suppose its free shipping.

Got mine yesterday for 2x face without having to line up or visit dozens of banks. Only bought the two and keeping my eye out for others in chance or an opportunity to pick them up at a nearby exchange if the line up is not hours long.

Just ordered a 2023 and 2024 uncirculated set from the Royal Canadian Mint. Cool sets. Plus new ones with King Charles III. Figured as a US Citizen it'll be a cool part of my collection to go with a few Canadian 50 cent pieces and a couple of silver dollars from 1966.

No Lancaster was disappointing as we have one of the last few flying at the museum. $30 premium for a roll is very steep.

I usually just get a pair from eBay for $10 including shipping for each year. I don’t have a need to have a full roll that’s just going to collect dust. As a cashier surprisingly I never see those coloured coins if so it’s faded and scratched up so its not worth keeping. Vancouver B.C.

Went to the bank today and asked if they have any Mint boxes of Toonies and the teller walked out of the safe with a mint box of Indigenous & Black Ring Toonies. 😂 Not what I wanted but it is better than I expected.

That's pretty awesome! Last week in Edmonton I was at a venue that was cash-only. Each time I bought a drink I got a brand new black ring toonie in my change. They must have gotten those same boxes!!

I was just in Edmonton last week for the Canadian Country Music Awards. Hey James, do you know how to order coins from the bank? The teller told me I can only get 10 rolls of each denomination.

Some banks just won't let you do it, and others want to preserve coin for their business customers, which is understandable. I've only asked once, and my branch essentially told me that there was no need to order and they'd sell me whatever they have when I ask. Having said that, sometimes they just don't have enough on hand. It's hard to do coin roll hunting videos when you can't get enough coins to hunt.

Some banks will have them in your area. You might have to try several banks and just ask if they have any.

@@devrybrodziak2876 Canada Post will often carry the Keepsake Cards (the one that has both toonies), but I don't think they've carrie the rolls in the past. I believe the Mint will give you free shipping within Canada.

Well - the answer, I think, is both, actually! The special mint rolls that I showed are either all colour or all non-colour. The rolls that will be issued for circulation (more likely those shrink-wrap plastic or plain machine wrapped), have typically been a mix of both. If you're lucky to get a roll from the bank, that's what you're going to get.

It's out now. I expect the banks have had it for a week or so. They'll often get them in advance with a "do not distribute until." But, I didn't hear any rumours about what the subject was.

Stopped by the bank today and asked for any mint wrapped toonies and loonies. This was my first time coin roll hunting. Ended up getting a whole roll of the Anne of Green Gables Loonies. I haven’t opened it but I can tell from the sides that they are all the same. The front facing one is non coloured. Would there be a chance of any colourized ones inside?

The rolls that are distributed through the banks are typically mixed - so you should have a bunch of both!

I'll disagree with you on the quality of the design - I think it looks great. But I'll agree that a Canadian plane would have been a great touch.

​@@CADRollHunter I tend to prefer the mixed designs of early with colour and non colour parts than the full center colour. The Bill Reid was great for sure. But most of the ones that followed on the same pattern, have been in my view of diminishing greatness. I think the Mint at this point is simply milking the cow too much with these coins.

Whey they introduced the Summit Series coin, my first thought was that it looked just like putting a sticker on a coin, rather than an advanced minting process. For some reason I didn't feel the same about the Bill Reid coin - perhaps because of the artwork itself.
