We are in the last throws of our build. I went past the house yesterday to find our garage door installed which was exciting. The builder must have also gone through cause there was blue tape and green tape all over the outside house. Picking on pinholes in the mortar, sand in window tracks, a tiny scratch on the paint on the electrical cabinet. I mean the attention to the detail was incredible and some of the stuff I'd have glossed over and accepted come PCI. It really put my mind at ease and we are over the moon with our builder and every tradie we met in the last 7 months. The shitshow I've just witnessed on display here is criminal, half the bloody house has to get demoed!

@@vishanveerahoo4396 Hug Homes WA. Small builder, only take a limited number of orders a year. Slab went down 21 May, 1st brick down on 1st of July. And if we didnt have midland brick delay us with paving we would have had PCI by now. Incredibly fast, excellent trades, I managed to catch the brick layers , the plumber and the tilers. All top folk seem to get looked after by the builder and each one was happy to spend some time having a chat and answering any questions no matter how rudimentary. In saying all this, next door is building with Blueprint and its appears to be going just as well as ours.

The worst time to build is always during a boom, every cowboy in town comes into the sector and the poor old everyday person who works for their dream gets ripped off, the industry should have been cleaned up 40 years ago

I agree. I remember this kind of stuff happening in Ireland during the last housing boom though not to this extent. It's always caused by a shortage of labor and so many cowboys seeing opportunity to make a quick buck before they are caught out for their terrible workmanship. The problem with Perth however is that the labor shortage isn't going to ease up in the next few years

About 40 years ago Government employed Building Inspectors were all shown the door and "the free market" was allowed to work it's wonders with privately contracted (by the builder) compliance inspections

What does everyone expect when we have imported poor quality "tradesmen". These tradesmen are now training apprentices through fast tracked apprenticeships. Bring back full 4 or 5 year apprenticeships, we get a lot better tradesmen over time. Importing and fast tracking fixes the labour shortage, but the quality suffers.

Plumber for 40 years, nothing surprises me anymore. I see apprentices watching fuck knows what on there phones “while they work” , no care no pride no clue, like 80% of 4 WDs on the road “all the gear , no idea” . My nephew who is a 2nd year apprentice carpenter just bought ( first car) a 2016 hilux with 320,000 on the clock for $28,000 , then asks me (I own a 2019 hilux) what I think a snorkel install would be worth for his hilux , my response , “ do you plan on doing plenty of water crossings with it”? His answer, “ no it just looks cool”……..stuck dumb by his answer I simply replied “save your money”. Fuck the industry I will be out of it in the next 5 years but I will keep my plumbing license active for the next 10 because …..watch the video again.

😂 18- 30 yr olds these days 🙈 absolutely no hope. Phones should be banned on-site from start to lunch, and lunch to knock off. No clue of hard graft these days or what itmeans to do a job well or the weight of the job they're doing, as in trade wise. I genuinely believe all teens must do some sort of trade whilst in school as their first job. A.I won't build houses, or fix your plumbing 😂😂
