With the push for mainly renewables by the head in the sand mob who think they know better than the science, we'll all be using candles at night , unable to use air conditioning and showering weekly.Phew!! Thousands of acres of solar farms are a blot on our beautiful farming country and those ugly wind farms taking over our land and oceans look hideous. As they can't be recycled, what happens to them?Where do they get dumped when needing to be replaced every 10 years.? They have been destroyed in strong storms in other countries . How would all the electric cars be charged then? Our east coast has had frequent, violent weather in recent years and the power was out for thousands of homes for days on end. Renewables only just will not work in storms. The country will be brought to a standstill with electric cars unable to be charged. We are in the perfect position to learn from other countries who have had nuclear very successfully for years. We shouldn't be wasting any more time on this debate. Labor is leading us into third world conditions rather than back down and show commonsense.They will lose the election on this issue and many others.

Australia is not rich in renewables. We make none of the renewables machinery and are in renewables poverty. Renewables are great big, short lived machines made in China and thousands of hectares of solar cells. Backed up by a trillion dollars worth of batteries or failing pumped projects. Nuclear gets very expensive when you have a regulator committed to the projects failing. Japan can build a large nuclear reactor for $5 billion in 5 years. Roof top solar is intermittent and unreliable but the embodied energy involved in the production and installation of the panels exceed the likely useful energy it produced and once you include safe disposal roof top solar produces negative net energy. The idea renewables is cheap is a lie based on optimistic assumptions and not looking at the need to provide power 24 x 7. Once you have to provide reliable power renewables becomes astronomically expensive. Going gang-busters into renewables? It will all be in land fill by 2040. It is all mal-investment, they we have to start from zero in an inevitable nuclear future.

Power in Melbourne (Australia's equivalent of Portland Oregon lol) for me is 25cents per KW AU from the mains supplier. We get about 4-5 cents per KW solar feed in. Gas is banned in new house builds. Crime is on the up and up. Whoops! I'm off topic, cheers😒😒

By 2030 most miles will be electric. Solar today is the cheapest source of energy on the planet. Solar PV price has gone down by 80 percent in the last 10 years. Solar PVs will keep dropping in price. Batteries keep dropping in price. The electric cars are cheaper to maintain and cleaner than ice vehicles. It costs $11 to charge an electric car versus $90 for a petrol car for 500 kms. This transition is going ahead in the future as the markets, car industry and investors like Tesla have clean energy goals. Oil and gas will be minimal by 2030. Australia has a solar advantage. Nuclear is a doom day plan for Australia as it will be an expensive option, nuclear makes sense only in cold frozen areas like Russia. Furthermore a nuclear disaster due to bushfires will destroy alot of lives. Its time to think wisely as nuclear is NOT the best option. For further information listen to Tony Seba.

Anyone who works around nuclear plants or unshielded electrical instsllations gets a certain dose of radiation that is why we have legislation for testing of those areas in the workplace. Infact all the legal thresholds where raised in Fukoshima to allow the plant to continue to be manned.

I live in Lucas heights and the number of two headed people on the streets here is astounding. Our postman has four arms and the local butchers tail is very long. Zali should've come with more facts. The nuclear costings that came out provide no analysis of the cost effects for people's energy bills. The cost for the average punter is conveniently left out. They've claimed it's cheaper but much of the debt recovery falls outside of the 25 year costings plan and is not taken into account when making this statement. It opposes facts from the CSIRO that say it costs more to do nuclear. However nuclear is a lot safer than it used to be, due to increases in safe waste management solar panel waste is considered 300x more harmful currently until recycling and waste management services improve. Nuclear is also considered clean in terms of emissions. There's positives and negatives really

Just check all the costings around 80 years of panels/blades/batteries vs all the costings around nuclear. I've been doing that for years ever since this debate first started and nuclear continues to come in cheaper and more environmentally friendly. On the other shoe, we do have insane amounts of good gas and the cleanest burning coal on the planet, why not continue using them? Plant up a few hectares surrounding the power stations with some good native vegetation to offset any pollution if you're really worried.
