Why do I feel like I'm listening to the memoirs of a defeated captain in the days long past?

Honestly I feel like there's players who share a set different of mentalities when playing games. For me, i play games to essentially commit genocide, laugh, mock my opponents and have a challenging fight with my comrades. Sometimes I get way into the action and role-play as a Sgt or one of the characters or even become a parody of the playerbase itself. Now it's like...I don't play it often anymore due to how they physically and mentally tire me out with the same personality, tactics and terrible memes they spew out.

It's not worth disliking people just because you have a disagreement. It's been normal to politely disagree for the majority of modern civilization. Just because of modern political discourse a lot of people have grown into adult-babies and can't get around a disagreement with one another. Polite conversation and argument is possible. The nature of argument isn't one of anger or of spite. Debate and argument are important to solving these problems, not perpetuating more problems out of hate for simple beliefs and opinions. Not that your video is bad, I actually agree with you. Infamous examples of complainers that have no logic behind their arguments are people who complain about the Black Box. I just think disliking some tubers for some things they said is a bit extreme. Could even be considered para-social, taking things too personally from a person who you are not personal with. However upon a brief rewatch I do think I misunderstood you, you said you have multiple reasons to dislike them that you are yet to elaborate on. I'll wait excitedly for that upcoming video. I think my point still stands though, and it's good to think about polite disagreement. One of the people on the podcast mentioned, ZestyJesus, is infamously disliked for a lot of reasons which are either fake, misinformed, or blatantly illogical. And the people who dislike him are terrible people that don't follow logic or stand on sound grounds. So I'm used to looking at people that don't like Zesty and assuming they are just of poor character, which in 9/10 times they are. Of course that's my bias to hold and to value, whether or not it's respected. Maps being user curated, features changing over time, poorly maintained servers which allow unearned kills, and a game designed for close range combat. All this makes sniper a bad class which doesn't fit into TF2. So I disagree with you wholeheartedly that "Any class can kill quickly in their designed situations." Because every class has a counter to those situations, besides sniper. The sniper argument has WAY more depth than you are giving it credit for. I'm not in the mood to begin listing the facts of the matter, the sniper debate is not one I'm interested in continuing, especially since I haven't played TF2 in ages. But also because, obviously it's gotten to a point where one side of the argument is just correct and the other just isn't. The sniper doesn't need to be removed, but that is the simplest solution to a long standing problem. Specific maps are specifically designed with sniper in mind, giving him an unfair advantage. If sniper was a projectile based skill focused class rather than an Eye Spy point and click game, a lot of us in the community would be perfectly fine with his overpowered damage. But as of right now, his damage needs to be taken care of, his sight-lines need to be taken care of, and his close quarters damage needs to be taken care of. Jarate + Bushwacka literally invalidates the point you made prior about sniper needing insane skill at close range. Because that doesn't take skill, especially on 2fort with a spawn door a couple hammer units away. I'm lighthearted, I compliment those who out skill me. Just like when I out skill a sniper, market garden, soldier bomb, etc, it's obviously on them when they are the ones complaining. Which, they are 90% of the time. "oh he switched just to kill me reeee." There are 3 snipers on the enemy battlements and our team can't get out of spawn. One of them is a cheater, one of them is just really good, the third one picks off whatever he can after the first two die. Is this fair and balanced? No. Obviously not. That's a fact. Instant kill beams, (not quick kill beams, instant they are hitscan) from across the map disallowing any actual gameplay, that's not fun that's schlock. It's not about challenge, it's not about difficulty, it's not about victory, it's about the specific engagement between one class that can one shot 3 of the 9 classes in under a second. And he can one shot the rest at full overheal within under 3 seconds. I appreciate the video and the attempt to make some points in favor of sniper, but the average anti-sniper talking points do not speak for the majority of the anti-sniper talking points. And calling them all crybaby's doesn't solve the issue. And don't gatekeep videogames, it's lame. I don't play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly to "Win" Anomaly. I play it to live in the zone and do fun missions. I don't play H3VR to "Win" H3VR I play it cause the game has fun interactions and gamemodes which supply entertainment and experience which has directly translated to hitting better shots at the range. And from the beginning I didn't play Skyrim to "Win skyrim" Skyrim's story is the most boring story of all time, just packaged with Dragons. The side quests and the alternate missions are what makes Skyrim fun. I play games to fulfill myself, not fulfill the games winning conditions. And to say that isn't a valid way to play games is both just factually wrong and poorly motivated as an argument. You are just trying to gatekeep people that don't want to win their online lobbies of videogames, I get that it's frustrating to be on a team with a bunch of people that don't know how to play and don't actually want to play, but there is an aspect of that game that they bought that they enjoy. I don't think they should be playing either, clearly they don't want to actually accomplish the task, but that doesn't mean all gamers shouldn't play GAMES because they don't "play to win." I play Warthunder, so I get it. Warthunder is a game where it is beyond emphasized that you need to work as a cohesive unit, but people just don't and try to go off and do their own thing. With Warthunder, a loss is a serious bullet to bite, so advocating for these people to not play the game, while not unreasonable, is also not fair to their experience with the game. I think they could go play on community servers, but then how are they going to unlock the vehicles? It just doesn't work as an argument in any format based in any logic. Oh also don't bother replying I'm not gonna monitor this comment. I just write these for fun.

11:45 yeah... he cant do those things because... he doesnt need or want to? Spy having to GET CLOSE is why he's considered worse? Sniper not needing to be close range is to insta kill is specifically why he's better, and its not like spy can defend himself particularly well at close range either he's just kind of decent at running away

@@military_snake what about anything I said is a skill issue? Spy not being good at close range defense? no, thats how he was intentionally designed, tied for lowest base health, can only out dps medic and sniper at close range, he gets folded by anyone else of equal skill at any range unless they dont see him or they walk into him like an idiot, he can only run away if caught which is only more likely at higher levels of play and sniper does not have to take any of this into account to insta kill someone

I think you did a pretty good job elaborating, so long as the person watching is actually listening and not inserting bias : ). But yeah, I'd much prefer games to be their intended vision rather than homogenolized goop gameplay. Not that I don't sometimes like the goop, but I prefer to play something that feels like a passion project.

about 3 mins into the video and you are misunderstanding the point or just not stating clearly what you are arguing against. at the start you said games shouldnt be balanced around the majority of the . this is entirely different than a majority of the player base decides what is balanced in the game. now i do know you mean the latter according to the description but the way you phrased it at the beginning it sounded like you were saying games shouldnt be balanced around casuals (the majority of the player base) which i disagree with but i agree with the statement of balancing shouldnt be decided by popular vote. This inconsistency will throw a lot of people off before the 1 minute mark because its hard to follow. i will try to be as nice as i can when i say this because its all in good faith; this video should have never gotten past the draft phase or rewatched/reviewed and never gotten past the editing phase. P.S i will elaborate on my opinions about the topic further if you ask but i didnt think it was very relevant other than a passing statement to make a point. like i said this is all in good faith and wanting to make your videos better.

I see the discrepancy and I understand your position. indeed, I find that the idea of popular vote vs balanced towards casuals wind up being conflated as one and the same. in my 1am recording stuper, I probably conflated them by mistake, and I concede that I am in error by doing so. I do think, however, that games shouldn't be catered to casuals and competitive players so discriminately, but then again, my definitions of casual and competitive harken back to a more literary and philosophical root sense. this also is something that I have taken and will take great pains and effort to elaborate in a future video, to make it abundantly clear just how much our perception of games as a society has changed, and just how incorrectly we perceive, define, and categorize certain terms, mechanics, and whole games themselves.

I think I see where I differ from most people now. You view gaming as escapist entertainment that disguises itself as something to stimulate your brain with a sense of tangible progression. I view gaming as the art it's intended to be, wherein the experiences are simply what they are and I can work to achieve the progression while also understanding that there's more to the game than just "fun". We are not the same.

i agree with the "my truth" part. ive also hated "this is my opinion" or "my truth" cause... theres THE TRUTH. and pretending it doesnt exist doesnt do anything for anyone. i really wish you put up the video in question though. So i can see what you mean a little more. Cause i just dont know what video you got mad about. So i cant really say if you or them are wrong. As for sniper... Ive heard less about sniper killing a lot of people being a reason. and moreso its just lame to go againt one. i know you gave some examples of his disadvantage and some uses where you need sniper defensively. But most of the time people dont deal with that. its the ADVANTAGE that sniper has. The way you deal with him is to not be in his line of sight at all. And MAYBE go around if everyone else on his team is busy. This is very different compared to the ways you try to beat other classes. Especially since you get one shot vs damage over time. You say "hes only good at long range" but... hes in long range for the most time hes spawned in. its also a part of why he gets so many kills. you wanna dance. get out to the front line... just to get one shot. And after awhile... you deal with it so much... you get angry. and not care... just to get shot again. its just not fun to play against. Instead of "dancing" with the opponent. you kinda just... stand around a point you kniw you are safe in and just play there... when people want to do the fun part. and actually engage. A third maybe 2 thirds of tge map are locked down and you gotta spend your time in one area cause if you were say... a heavy. you know you are easy pickings. and theres just not a lot you can do. The fun is now sidelined. People say skill issue. I say... its just not fun. People can say skill issue all day. but theres been plenty of competetive things that were changed just cause stuff is not fun or even degenerative. Look at "wobbling" is smash bros melee. Simply by being a degenerative strategy. you ban it. it came at the loss of the spectators. Does it mean you gotta nerf or do sonething with sniper? Idk. But you cant just say skill issue or that "people just want shit handed to them" when honestly.... its not that. I play to win in stuff like card games all the time. No matter what power level. i want to win. But that doesnt mean certain cards shouldnt go away or that i get to just say "get good" when i know a card is unfun or broken. it doesnt matter that theres a way to beat the strategy. if the counter to the strategy is unfun to do or degenerative. Then i dont care if someone says skill issue. its unfun. and my love for winning, my skill at the game cant counter that. i think you just dealt with too many people that simply just dont care and want the dopamine of clicking buttons. Which is fine. I just think you went to the other side of the argument. in "competetive integrity" When in reality. Especially if you play fighting games... Competetive integrity as an absolute makes the game worse. Just as much as trying to make it casual oriented has. I wait for more discussion.

I find that people's ideas of fun and unfun are based in such subjective metrics that making them objective is inherently dishonest... but I'll discuss that in the future soon
