Real talk... I know the pending UFAs have been discussed and people seem to think time is up for Armia in mtl, but is there truly a better 4th line defensive player like him in the league? I've been saying for years he's one of the best puck handlers I've ever seen, and the 4th line is so defensively dominant with him and Evans so why would we even consider letting either of them go? To me it is a no brainer to keep that 4th line signed and happy, they're so integral to the team.
@etienneb61672 күн бұрын
Short term, yes. Long term? No. Edit. Short term maybe. Depends on what he can bring to us on the trade market
@VoIcanoman2 күн бұрын
I agree about keeping them at the TDL. As for re-signing them, the contracts have to be right. I'd actually be okay if they kept them both at the trade deadline and eventually lost Armia to UFA (better to lose him than sign him to a bad contract). Evans must be re-signed (I'd be wary of giving him more than $4 million, or 5 years, but I don't think he'd get more than that on the open market, so I think they have a good chance of retaining him). He's a better player than Armia, and younger too, so they can afford to give him a 5 year deal (though I'd prefer it were 4, even if it meant paying him a bit more). I'd max Armia out on 3 years, but 2 would be ideal. Losing him for "nothing" rather than trading him (as some people put it) is actually incorrect, because they'd be gaining his participation in the last 6 weeks of the regular season, and hopefully, maybe, the playoffs. That's not nothing. Because keeping that 4th line together is key to any playoff success, should the Habs get a wildcard spot. At some point, the re-build has to be over, and you have to start behaving like you're trying to win a Cup. That time is now, because this team has all of the assets that will, in their primes, make the team a contender (including in the AHL, KHL, CHL and NCAA...they have at least one major asset who will play a part in their future success in each one of those leagues right now). And I think the value to the young players of one or two (or more?) playoff series in April/May exceeds the value that Evans or Armia would bring back in a trade. Suzuki and Caufield were just babies when they went to the Cup Final in 2021 - now they're leaders, and they have to experiencing leading this team when it really counts.

He’s also a momentum killer , he never finds and option and prematurely take a 60 mph shot in the goalies chest And wtf is Michael Pezzetta still on the team Hutson wasn’t the difference maker , I love Hutson but Joel Armia put on a defensive clinic tonight , just outstanding and very technical defensive I’m know to be pessimistic and won’t brag till the habs win it all , but Dobes , wow!
