In my childhood we used to joke that Jayasurya became destructive when he began to go bald 😂😅. Anyway in all seriousness , it was common to hear people say "Jayasurya has blasted us all over the ground." And if he was dismissed early then we had a great chance of winning. We would have a sigh of relief 😅. Anyway i remembered the ipl of 2008 or 2009 when Mumbai Indians were not really playing well in few early matches 6 or 8 matches i believe , sachin was also not there due to injury but the moment Sachin arrived to bat after missing out all those matches due to injury . Jayasurya just hit a crazy blitzkrieg of a hundred😅❤ in that match and we won that match . I dont remember who were playing against but that was his only hundred in IPL and we had won that match after losing back to back matches at the start of IPL . I think it was chennai or hyderabad team , i am not sure now . But yes that knock convinced me that if T20 cricket arrived in 1999-2000 then Jayasurya would have been the best, heck he would have broke Afridi's record of quickest hundred also for sure.😂 Anyway i miss Jayasurya even more today when i see today's plight of Sri lanka in Cricket. I miss that old Sri Lanka team from 90s and 2000s . They had a lot of great matchwinners who could take the game away from you instantly. Anyway i believe Jayasurya was Sachin and Sehwag combined in a player sometimes with ball spinning abilty which was deceptive sometimes almost on level of Warne, murali etc.

2:40 it's a damn masterstroke, Arjuna Ranatunga was the smartest cricketing brain, indeed 😮 Jayasuriya was so, so destructive, I wish I could bat like him and I still try to bat in his way. The Jayasuriya Way, doesn't look for stats, just wants to destroy the attack and give his team the best possible start he could. Rohit Sharma similarly played this way in the recently ended 2023 WC. It wasn't only Ranatunga who turned around Jayasurya. Jayasurya started opening for Sri Lanka probably from 1993/1994. The real change in his approach of slogging from ball 1 was brought about by Dav Whatmore who was Sri Lanka's coach for the 1996 World Cup. He along with Kaluwitharne started opening the Srilankan innings with an approach unseen of in those days. That's when Jayasurya really shined and became a household name across the cricket watchers. Maximum respect to the man. Very few people can say that they literally changed the way the game is played but Jayasuriya is one who can easily make that claim. When he came on the scene he made bowlers and teams worldwide re-evaluate how they went about playing the game, especially in the early overs of a 50-over game. Amazing hitter of a cricket ball. Imagine how he would have cleaned up playing franchise 20/20 cricket these days!

In 1996 Worldcup, the opening pair Sanath Jayasuriya and Kaluwitharna used to smash and used to score 60/70 odd runs in opening 5 overs. Memorable days.

In 90's he was our super campion ❤❤❤When he was on the greeze our heart was beating and we used to pray (No one can out him). When he hit 6s the camera mans cannot find where the ball goes.. He is the motivation for school kids that time to choose cricket as their sport. Kookaburra bat is also famous because of him. 1996 wills world cup was remarkable. Thank you for sharing this video regarding our master blaster. That time we heard there was a temple built in India in his name to respect him.. Love from SL

Very true. Sanat Jayasuriya is the person who transformed ODI by batting in a different style in the first 10 overs by striking at high strike rate to give a flying start to the innings. He the the first batsman to hit over infield. The amazing batsman who was one of the main reason of their team winning ICC World Cup.

Jayasuriya was on 189 , he went for six and glory to surpass 194 highest score in odi by saeed also against India ! He was so exhausted and he missed the world record but he had a lot of deliveries left .. it clearly suggests that he never played for centuries.. he just played to dominate!

Back in 2017 as i remeber a commentator was introducing sanath as an Old guy when he comes out to bat. He was implying that it was time to retire. Next screen came up with last 5 innings of him. Last two innings were 150+ with less than 100 balls. One of them played in england too. The guy shut his mouth immidiately.

Indians Robbed the name of *Master blaster* from jayasuriya to Sachin. But these fools don't know the meaning of master blaster😂 it doesn't mean just hitting the ball. It means hitting the ball with no mercy. When did sachin used to blast the ball like Jayasuriya? When did he played like a maniac? Never. Sachin was more of a consistent batter with elegant skills. His skills with the bat was awesome. Technically he was a run machine. But not a blaster😂 So gentlemen, There's only one master blaster: *Sanath Jayasuriya* There's one and only king: *Sir Vivian Richards* There's only one magician: *Muralitharan* There's only one rawalpindi express: *Shoaib Akthar* There's only one king of swing: *Wasim Akram* There's only one prince: *Brian Lara* That's the reality.
