Tomo, you are absolutely right: I totally have waaaay too much distraction with the internet. So much guitar-related stuff, lessons and gear and concerts and beyond, whereas all that time could be spent playing and learning! This video is a wake-up call. THANK YOU!

I'm sure this is one of the most important factors in my technical improvement. Thank you so much, Tomo, sharing this knowledge for free is one of the kindest things of yours.

completely agree the internet is distracting us! For months I was trying to practice 5 different things a day, improvements came very slowly which made me crazy. I just started focusing on only 2 things a day for a few hours each and I've improved more in them in just a few days! Also, I admire how active you are with your subscribers / followers, you try answer everyones questions and respond to our comments even when there is so many of us, I have never seen any other person do this! thankyou!

Thanks Tomo. I like this exercise and shared with a couple of my students. I thought you might enjoy this: one of my students told me they liked it because of how eerie and spooky it sounded. I loved her observation because it’s so easy to get lost in thinking about fingerings, chromaticism, etc. and forget about the emotional impact that music has. Even when it’s just a warm-up!

Thank you for sharing this! I find it difficult to make time to practice, as I work 2 jobs and have several cats to take care of. And when I do manage to sit down with my guitar, I can't figure out what to do! When I try playing a song, I just get frustrated with the technical aspects, like proper fingering, picking, and strumming. (Up strums are still tricky for me for some reason.) But I feel like I'll learn a lot more and get more out of practice by doing this!

It's really refreshing to see your pinky doing the same thing as mine when it's not needed, it just flies away. While these shredheads cry when they witness this, most, and even some of the most successful guitarists do it. Why work on something that doesn't bother you? Timing and accuracy are key, and not having the toughest practice time! although it's fun to see "good guitar playing" change or be interpreted like, dude, it must be frustrating at first! It is almost as if a new art of practice is being born. And their credo is, if it's not as hell demanding, then it's not good music!!! Maybe, Tomo, you explain why you not focus on having the pinky hovering over the string all the time? I'm sure there a many watching shredders who would like to know ur thoughts about that. and of cause i like that practice lesson much

Hi Tomo! Thank you for your lessons. I have a maybe weird question. I am at the moment trying to balance teaching math and other subjects to highschool students, doing my own part-time work at the same time as gaining a better grasp of music theory. This might be a strange question, but how do I go about finding a good practicing method for guitar playing that also extends my music theory knowledge (which is very beginner), while having fun, and allowing time for everything else that I like doing. Maybe sometime in the future I would like to focus more on creating my own songs, and so I’d like to find a sustainable and manageable way to slowly keep improving as a player. Again, maybe this is a strange question, but thank you again for taking your time to make these KZbin videos!

TomoFujitaMusic thank you for the advice! I’ll try to keep to less information and try my best to deepen as much as possible by connecting it to what I already know. I understand you cannot comment much here. I’ll check out your website! Thanks a lot!

You're welcome! Anything you think, that's a brilliant question! Be kind to yourself!! Before you create your song, you can learn a few songs (great songs that you think!) Learn all chord progressions! That's a great way to use/think theory. I teach all my students very very seriously so this place is more fun place,

TomoFujitaMusic thank you! I’ll have a look at my favorite songs and try to learn them to their fullest! My goal is to one day be able to play Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson and fully understand all of the chord progressions and scales he uses within the song, and maybe create something just as beautiful as his masterpiece. That’s a very difficult song, so I’m going to stick to some easier ones I know for now and really try to get the chord progressions, the scales that fit and just keep practicing! Thank you for being so helpful!

Yes simply put your phone away when you're practicing and monitor your screen time. Start thinking of things in terms of value. Remember everything you see/hear is going to influence you in one way or another. Be mindful. Kbyeeee

Mr Fujita, do you recommend to have your left hand positioned as you do in that classical style? For me it's quite difficult, so I always play individual notes with my thumb hanging over the fretboard

Save 100 dollars on a flanger, lol. Yes, I agree, there is a lot of distraction on the internet. You can do 100 new things in 100 days and never master anything. This is my problem.

Internet is not distracting. People no longer have proper focus and patience. The want of instant gratification is the issue. Video games are a part of the issue. Things move so fast in their games- not in real time. Real life does not move that fast. [JMO]

I have a question. For example, if I'm playing 2nd note (with my middle finger), should I keep my pointer finger over the 1st note? Or can I lift it? Nice video!

You don't have to lift it, but it's not a requirement to keep holding that one down. Depending on what you are playing, I often leave my 1st finger in place if I am going to use that note again right after. (Like if I was going to play a G. an A, and then back to a G I would just leave my finger there.)
