The same thing is happening to me. My friend says something mean and then says “I am just kidding” and then when I say that it doesn’t feel like you are kidding, he just responds by says “you just don’t understand joke” or “chill out”. I don’t know what to do so can you please help me?

yeah I have a friend that'll say mean stuff, then laugh and say just kidding, i'll laugh but on the inside I'm hurt. I've been open with her and i feel like she maybe judges me for what ive told her. i feel like i cant open up to her cause every time i do she'll say something mean and try to act like she was being nice. like she'll try to criticize me nicely.

I'd say dump your friend.

0:46 This is because the girls that you are portraying are passive-agressive, a negative personality type that you can choose to avoid. If this girl was really as bad as this mother describes her, the daughter has the choice to break off the friendship. There should be nothing that is forcing her to stay in the relationship and, if there is, there should be an 3rd party, maybe the mother or a proper authority figure, who should intervene.

+Stephanie Vargas Hi Stephanie, you're so right, sometimes a friendship won't improve by using the No Joke Zone. Ending a friendship is a skill most of us will need at some point, unfortunately. In fact, we answered another parent's question about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJSyqquNhamgqMU Dorothy Ponton, Community Engagement Manager
