Had to laugh when Magnus talks about Grishchuk, it's like "yeah he's always better and always extremely low on time". Which is weird how slow he is online because over the board he's 3x World Blitz and Rapid champ.

Grischuk said in an interview about a month ago that he feels he is uncomfortable and slower to spot things on a computer than he is over the board.He said that is true even when he is just at home studying a line or messing around with an engine. When you play at that high a level, split-second pattern recognition is key, and if he feels less comfortable with the interface or the 2d view, it might impede him a tiny amount. Or it could just be Grischuk being Grischuk and messing with us all.

On the one hand blitz games like these lead to exciting situations, but it's also a shame that the players can't play to their maximum potential. Magnus and his galaxy brain work at such lightning speed that he sees things in rapid chess that others can't in the same timeframe, which allowed him to retain his World Championship title by forcing the game to the rapid section. He's of course well in his rights to do this, but it's just sad to see a great player like Grischuk lose due to time pressure. There's a lot to be said about time formats in chess: classical definitely leads to a lot of draws and snoozefests. I wonder if such a thing as "an ideal time format" even exists.

I have some questions. 1. Was it just Carlsen's good will that he agreed to the draw or there was an increment? Meaning that if Grishchuk was very very low on time he could lose by flagging theoretically. 2. The second question is a general one. When you have for example a different move on the 15th one, but after 2 moves you get the same position so basically only the order is changed, is it considered as a completely new game?

4:55 you mean you threaten mate in 1, not just that the rook is hanging. Love your videos agad. Keep it up.

The next TCEC season has started! Game 8 is great but if you want to show both sides playing in completely different ways games 13 and 14 are even better. #suggestion

I think if you take the queen then black will take with the rook, after that black can just gaurd the past pawn and then the rook will go down to b1 and then black will be able to win the game easily

Q d2 just repeats the position ... you threaten the pawn as white and also defend the rook on a5 so black has to return his r on c4 :) but nice thought !!

The position at 11:50 is awesome. Moving the bishop back to block the back rank is a really cool idea. Grischuk had a totally winning position and like the Alireza video I watched earlier time trouble fucked em. Alireza had a winning position and sadly Magnus made him cry at the end. This was a great game. Magnus is a hustler.

7:45 when 31...Qe8, why don’t you 32.Rxd5, so when 32...Qe3+, 33.king moves wherever...Qxc1, Rd8#Mate. I don’t understand why he said Carlson woulda 32.Qxd5. I know Carlson didn’t do either way. But what’s the flaw in taking with the rook? Is talking with queen better???
@robinwier

" ... 33.king moves wherever...Qxc1 ... " should be 33. king moves wherever...Qxc1(CHECK). The king can't get out of the back rank.

Robin Wier thanks I missed a couple check, but same logic applies tho. 32...Qe3+, 33.kf1 Qxc1+, 34. Kf2 Qe3+, 35. Kg3, c=Q. (Note: Move 35 ends with no check) 36.Rd8+ Qe8, 37. Re8#. Hopefully I explained this right.
