put uv dye in the oil and use a blacklight to check leak location

@@rennkafer13 O'Reilly's has some too. Less than $25 for dye and a UV flashlight. That UV dye saved me a ton of work a few times. Even had one crazy instance with a porous casting that we couldn't have diagnosed any other way.

That's a good idea! I have a small leak like sarahs on my original 95 tubo. I have done the orings in the oil cooler, oring for the dipstick and valve cover and both hose from hell and hose from hell on earth! I need to do the dye! Good idea! I know I need to change the oring in the distributor but worried about all of the rest!

I watch other KZbin automotive channels as well, and one of the aspects that distinguishes yours is that you are so detail-oriented about every part of the car. You can feel certain that it is clean, working perfectly, and is at OEM new or higher standard. It is not about how fast you can complete a project, it is how fabulous you can make it. The fact that you have started out with $2000 beaters means you had a lot of work to do, since it means so much more mechanical work that those who deal primarily with lower mileage salvage cars. In any case, you impress me with your positive attitude, professionalism and determination. The fact that you are doing this by yourself in a sweltering small garage only adds to the degree of your accomplishments. Keep on truckin'!

I'm binge watching your videos Sarah. I think if any of your subscribers that have the space, time, and the knowledge they'll be more than happy to help. It could always be worse. I dropped an LT1 into a 95 Chevy pickup. Everything was great until the water pump decided to go when I was warming it up in -14 degree temps. Cracked the engine block. Because it was my ONLY vehicle I had to scrap it. Butters will get better. We have faith. We got your back.

You've made really good progress on Mr Dos and seem to be nearly there. As far as I see the list is only three things; a minor oil leak (possibly sump tank or head gasket), an air lock in the coolant and an alternator install. If the rest of life wasn't getting in the way this would be done by now. Stick with it, you've got this. Hope Butters gets well soon.

I do a lot of harness and electrical rebuilds on my old military trucks. I use 3M waterproof shrink wrap, but I also use inexpensive hydraulic wire crimpers from Ebay that give a great professional look and a solid hold just like the factory.

Don't feel bad about sharing your life. That is what I watch for is because you are real. We had a cat that had the same troubles over the years. We started feeding him prescription cat food and that made a huge difference. Our cat lived to be over 20 so other than the expense and occasional worry he had a nice long life. As long as you keep an eye on his litter box and catch any problems early he will be fine. you know what to look for now. God bless and I will say some prayers for you.

Oil leaks most always are not a sign of engine failure unless it's a head gasket. Tracing them down and making an effective repair is the hard part. Think about getting a quality bore scope so you can see inside that cramped area. You've got so much patience for the MR2. Cars run hard and put away wet are the biggest challenge. Best to you and Butters.

1. Get the dye some others mentioned. It makes leak finding a cinch. 2. If you want a decent priced vacuum bleeder for the cooling system ECS has one. I can't remember the size of your air compressor, but I can't imagine it takes much. 3. Don't give up on Mr. Dos. You're nearly there! Go watch an old video from when you first got it. 4. Take a break from stuff and regroup. You have a lot hitting at once. 5. Butters will get better. 6. You got this That is all.

Sara , hey listen I'm a mechanic and when I have a leak like you have I use tracing powder , it comes out of a spray can and is white. It takes I few minutes to dry but works great. I think Napa sells it. You could try it , after finding the leak use brake clean will wash the white powder that's left over away.

Pull the oil pan and get rid of that gasket. Use Toyota FIPG just as the BGB says. The BGB also has a simple procedure for bleeding the cooling system.
