Great episode! My 1996 XJ 4.0 had a similar O2 sensor problem. The harness to the upstream melted the insulation and shorted. Wires were too short to clear the exhaust manifold. A great shop in Knoxville, that's gone now of course, fixed it for a very reasonable fee.

Dex, I want to thank you for the info. I believe the wiring diagram you looked at is for a right-hand drive 4.7L, as in overseas/England driving on the right side of the car. The wj FSM FIELD SERVICE MANUAL addresses both left and right hand driven vehicles. I do not know if it makes a difference but there is a left-hand version of that wiring diagram. Anyway…..Keep up with the great wj teaching videos -i’m a 59 yr female who knows close to zilch about cars and i just adopted a2004 wj: GC Laredo 4.0L . I was raised by brothers that were motor heads and shop-jocks (their labels not mine). I love my garage time. Thanks for the great content! Andrea (a torque “wench”)

i almost junked my 2000 jeep grand Cherokee today because of coils. I was chasing sensors here and there just find out it was the coil! I didn't want to get rid of my jeep because I like it a lot. and when I first bought it I blew a fuse for PSM Battery fuse not knowing at the time but got a new fuse and it's a great jeep with 300k miles.

That jeep is identical to mine. Only difference is mine is quadradrive. I can't wait to see what you do with it. Mine got about 16-17 mpg highway with the front driveshaft out. Man I'm stoked.

Dex, your video was cool, a head scratcher. I have an '01 Grand/4.0. 3"lift Core 4×4 adjustable control arms. 17" Wrangler JK rims w/Cooper AT3's. 175,000. doesn't burn a drop of oil. I've had my share of electrical gremlins. But one question, how come you didn't try Chrysler's best kept secret for '99-04 Jeeps. Just turn the key to the run position 3 times, on and off and the pcm will give any code for what most problems are. Trust me, I love my ole Grand, been there.

My 99 wj 4.7 had loose worn out plug to the pump. It wood die then re start. After 2nd pump I straight wired it and was good. Also used a 4.0 pump the 2nd time, there the same. 4.7 is a great engine

My 99 xj ain’t had o2 sensors for about 2 years and runs fine. I had a code and it sounded like it was cammed I cut all the o2 wires off the sensors and unplugged off the sensor and it runs fine now. It’s just a trail rig

Awesome video!! Very happy to see a 4.7 😄👍🏻👍🏻. I really want to put a very small lift on mine. 2-3” no more. I really like my 4.7 SE. it has almost 240k miles and I’ve only replaced power steering pump, starter, and water pump and a U joint.

I had a new skid plate recently powder coated gloss red(straps zinc plated) as the one on my 01 WJ is disintegrating. I have a new fuel pump, gas filter and tank cleaning solution and ready to rock and roll on this project in a few days. Have you ever dealth with the common SKIM issue? My jeeps been sitting in my driveway for a month now and it won't start and just throws thr key light on the cluster. Starts for a second then dies, or just cranks and doesn't turn over. New pcm on the way with the SKIM delete. Hope that works...

From watching your videos, I'm kinda scared to tear into my wj with the 4.0. I just recently bought it knowing it needs a head gasket replaced, but seeing how prone the heads are to cracking and then the pistons also cracking. Not sure if I'm ready for that can of worms lol. Love the jeeps tho. I'll definitely be looking you for parts if my head is cracked lol.

My first statement was no fuel. I just had this problem with my 81 jeep c-j5 Oh yeah, it has a 88 4.0 OBD1 system, when it acted like that , the first thing was to establish if its a fuel delivery problem, so I sprayed starting fluid, turned the key ,fired right up, looked a bit farther and shit when I realized I was out of fuel. Ha ha ha. 😅 its so funny. Runs now. But I have been wondering how to determine if you have a stroker moter or just cam. Because mine has a lobe to it and I know thats not a stock sound of a 4.0 motor. Any ideas? 😅 peace.

I always check for main 2 first. Fuel.. And fire. Ill listen for the fuel pump. Then check spark. After that i start diggin deeper lol

Nothing hack about creating your fuel pump access panel. You can cut the square fully out, weld some little tabs to it, to allow it to not fall.back in....the use RTV to seal the cuts back up. 100% proper and clean access port from then on. Also...cutting your wires is a hack, that will create electrical gremlins in the future. Only way to avoid/minimize these gremlins, is to do a proper solder job. I use a "Lineman/Western Union" splice, than soldered & shrink wrapped. Crimp connectors will come back to haunt you.

I have a 2000 wj limited that always has a check engine light basically a no bus from the TCM to the ECM but the transmission works like it should. I've towed 6000lb with it. It was my daily until the Tcase went out. Have you seen any other 4.7 limited with a transmission code that works fine?

Back oh in 2015 I had 1 jeep grand cherokee zj . One time I was turning into my apartment parking spot and as I was about in my spot and the jeep died. It ended up being some small fuse in the fuse panel

i have the same engine and have a misfire on cylinder 6 new coil and new plugs. the engine was remaned 35k ago the misifre is only at idle also. any ideas? seems to be less misfires with the A/c running. ram 1500 thanks Dex

Check all of your grounds. I had the same year Jeep with the same problem. Crusty ground connection on the engine block.

I got a 2.5 in my Jeep it starts up and then cuts off I changed the ckp it didn't change if I up plug the ckp it what start or the cam one at at time it won't start have both plugged in it starts and then cut off it gives me a code po320 this is a new computer the one came in the jeep went out and this is the second new one I got the frist one they sent they put The security in it. My Jeep doesn't have security. It never has 1998 Jeep Wrangler, 2.5 now it not give me the key code no more just the po320

Why you could give a brand new Stellantis and I'd trade it for the oldest model possible which has a simpler system. How many relays there are compared to a XJ? Like others, if it cranks then and got spark then it's fuel issue as it only takes those three things. For the WJ owners.
