Just to clarify, she had been an active foster parent. At the time of the DUI she had 2 foster kids in addition to the 3 foster kids she had already adopted. The 2 kids were taken out of her foster care and she was not allowed to adopt them and is not allowed to adopt other children. Her 3 adopted children were in foster care for a year (I believe) with daily visitation and then returned to Paula full time. ref: her book There's Nothing in This Book That I Meant to Say

This is the June 27 felony complaint filed against Paula Poundstone by the Los Angeles District Attorney. Prosecutors charged the 41-year-old comedian with three counts of performing a lewd act upon the body of a girl under the age of 14. She was also hit with one count of child abuse (which allegedly involved two boys and two girls). Poundstone was released from the Santa Monica jail after posting $200,000 bail.

@ihavegarbageopinions = proof that scandal sells. The child molestation charge was never proven. Poundstone plead no contest to child endangerment because she had been dui with the kids in the car. She did rehab immediately. The child who made the accusation was a hard to place foster child with whom Paula had entered therapy in order to help the child deal with issues and to improve their rocky relationship. Even seasoned social workers doubted the accusation.

Add 20 years or more to anyones age, no one looks great, unless they have had plastic surgery. Paula has been through majpr trauma due to her legal problems. All she had was a DUI, not child abuse, NO sexual abuse. The legal system and the media dragged her through the mud, publically humiliated her and the unfounded charges will remain a stigma for the rest of her life. She lost custody of 2 of her children. I am just glad to see her performing, she looks pretty good considering

Kaecey the panda~It seems that having a closet full of skeletons is not necessarily a deal-breaker these days. She's definitely funnier than Ellen and I find her to be more genuine.
@cinnamonbeardstud6 жыл бұрын
I'm super late with this too but I always hear people comparing her to Ellen and it makes me nutty. The difference is Ellen wanted the kind of career she has and made personal sacrifices to her privacy and image in the process, and Paula is perfectly happy doing what she does now. She still is famous in her own right and constantly works, and the benefits of her not having the kind of career Ellen has are that are she doesn't have a huge image of being an iconic philanthropist and role model to keep up every minute of every day. By the way, Paula did try to have a talk show at one point, but every single comedian does in their career whether it's their own idea or cooked up via agency to boost visibility and meet people in the hopes of getting other work. Ellen, however wanted to do a show and worked very hard to rebound after some dark years after her sitcom. Also became America's supportive funny friend and everywoman after 9/11 due to her hosting the Emmys that year which was probably the most memorable awards ceremony ever because it was the first big non-government event after 9/11, and with a bit of behind the scenes luck got picked up and her new talk show took off. The fact she was already a proven sitcom actor helped her in that as well. However, for every story like Ellen's there's at least 500 more of a notable person or actor or comedian who worked on a show idea that never made it to tv. Out of that many ideas, probably only 50 get developed and written in conjunction with a tv production company if they are interested, and out of those maybe only 10 will get the crew funding and studio space and time to record a test pilot episode for networks to preview. Out of those 10 maybe, just maybe, 1 of them will eventually make it to tv after getting a network production contract and a dedicated crew. Paula did get to do a pilot of a talk show some years ago, but it didn't get picked up, and such is life, and now she's happy doing her own thing. If that really was her thing, to be an Ellen so to speak, she could definitely do it, but it comes with lots of personal sacrifices you need to make in the process. These would be especially demanding considering she has children while Ellen currently doesn't. If the roles were reversed I'm sure people would say "Why isn't Ellen as famous as Paula"
@crashburn32925 жыл бұрын
Kaecy and COOL - You're comparing two woman's comedy by sexual orientation. Any idea how insulting that is? Do you ever compare which fat, heterosexual male comedians were better? 'Rodney Dangerfield! No, it was Chris Farley. No, it was Ralphie May. No, it was Sam Kinison." Judge them on their chops, or not at all.

This has to be one of my favorite stand-up specials of all time because it is just incredibly amusing. Getting off topic a bit though, looking at this again makes me wonder what happened to her. Not where she is or what she's doing, but physically as she has not aged well. Here she's beautiful, but later on she's just blah. Maybe it has to do with her asexuality and not wanting to please anyone sexually?
