Ive been playing drums and studying music since i was in 8th grade, now I'm 28. I just wanted to provide a little insight. This man is a robot. He takes rather simple techniques and rudiments but completely reinvents the way they are implemented and utilized in his playing style. Those single hand rolls hes doing on the floor tom during the verses are called gravity blasts. And they are not necessarily easy but with enough practice and focus, they are a popularly used tool for experienced drummers. Quick note, if you notice he actually adds a gravity blast with his left hand on the snare too at the same time hes doing a gravity blast with his right hand on the tom. His rim work is phenomenal. He also adds a sly little rim shot at the end of his double stroke rolls going into the verses. And to top it off, all of his play with syncopation is absolutely spot on. He is just an absolutely amazing drummer that practices endlessly and has so much focus and love for his craft. He deserves so much more recogniztion and respect

@bradcordle7743 haha I mean I was just trynna help and provide some insight if no one hadn't already. Estepario does so many intricate things that the untrained or unknowledgeable eye/ear wouldn't notice. His use of shadow taps alone is so technical

El Estepario is an absolute mad lad. His limb separation is otherworldly. At the chorus he's got the double drumsticks on that cymbal, he's playing a different beat on the snares and hi-hat, got one foot on the hi-hat and another foot on the single-double bass and you could still calibrate an atomic clock on this guy. He's like an octopus with an autonomous nervous system per limb or some shit. Dude's wild.

He's self-taught, and his name is Jorge Garrido. Dropped out of his university (he tells that story) to play gig bands. When he left that, he began practicing a lot more and making videos about his progress. He then auditioned for a popular Spanish metal band, Saratoga, and became its drummer for about 3 years, I believe. His social media videos became wildly popular in 2023, so he left Saratoga on good terms to focus on building his online community. He's now the #3 most subscribed drum-focused channel on KZbin, recently passing Casey Cooper.

The snare roll into the flat palm rim shot is talent on a level most people genuinely can't understand and he's making it look so insanely effortless. The level of precision and subtle movement you need to be able to have to pull off that move, and to do it with consistency is genuinely the most impressive thing I've ever seen a musician do. The fact that you can't hear the stick ever touch the snare until he hits the rim is WILD

Technically speaking, he's the best drummer I've ever seen. Conversations can be had about feel and artistry (although I think he's amazing at that as well). Regardless, I think he's doing great things for drumming, both in terms of innovation, and also just highlighting the awesome work that drummers are putting in all the time. Any guitarist who has played with a really good drummer will be well-aware of how much more enjoyable that is.

His independence is insane! His groove is 2nd to none, his chops are...Where do I stop? Listen to where he talks about his practice and the amount of it. Explains a lot. He's so dedicated as well as inspirational. We WILL see a new wave of drummers in the future because of this guy!! The cymbal choke you speak of will come so natural for you with practice. I always thought in my mind to attack the cymbal with the stick, keeping your index finger a bit open, and drive your hand into the cymbal pretty much. Hope that makes sense, hope it might help.

I absolutely love it when you see something so insane you make this "gross" expression, like you did each time he grabbed the stick and started playing with three. Great reaction, I appreciate you pausing to talk about what you thought was good, rewinding to get better understanding of what you just saw and just adding a lot to the video. You caught everything he did, something many drummers that watched this failed at.

There is a video where Estapario talks about how he didn't get really good at drums until he started treating playing like it was his career. As in show up every day and practice for 8 hours as if you were being paid for it. He said that once he got into that mindset, and started to master the basics and push the limits of his abilities, he started to improve significantly. Wise words as anyone will attest that practice is vital to success. You might also notice that while he is playing he is in a full flow state, higher and lower cognitive functions focused solely on the task at hand. Which also requires a huge amount of practice, to where you don't need to think about playing. Practice, practice, practice...

what hes doing with his drumstick is known as a "gravity roll," its a drumming technique where a drummer uses a single drumstick to produce a rapid and continuous roll on the snare drum. It can create a unique and intense sound, often used in certain styles of music, such as drum and bass or jungle. Here's a basic explanation of how to perform a one-handed gravity roll: 1. Hold the drumstick: Grip the drumstick firmly with your dominant hand. You'll use this hand to execute the gravity roll. 2. Position the snare drum: Place the snare drum within easy reach of your dominant hand. Make sure the drumhead is properly tuned and the snare wires are engaged. 3. Start the roll: To begin the gravity roll, strike the snare drumhead with the drumstick. The stick should make contact near the center of the drumhead. 4. Use the wrist and fingers: As soon as you make the initial strike, rely on your wrist and fingers to control the rebound of the stick. Allow the stick to bounce back off the drumhead, and use your wrist and fingers to guide it. 5. Maintain a consistent motion: The key to the gravity roll is to maintain a consistent and controlled bouncing motion of the stick. Keep the stick close to the drumhead, and use your wrist and fingers to control the rebound. It should produce a rapid series of evenly spaced hits on the snare drum. 6. Practice and control: Achieving a smooth and controlled gravity roll takes practice. Start at a slow tempo and gradually increase the speed as you become more comfortable with the technique. Focus on maintaining even spacing between each stroke for a clean roll sound. It's essential to practice this technique regularly to develop the necessary control and speed. Keep in mind that it may take time to master, but with dedication and practice, you can achieve a one-handed gravity roll with precision and flair. What he’s doing with his foot is known as Gravity Blast it is a term that is often associated with drumming techniques, particularly in the context of extreme metal music. It's a technique used by drummers to achieve very rapid and powerful drumming patterns, typically on the bass drum (kick drum). In a Gravity Blast, the drummer uses a combination of heel-toe technique and ankle motion to create a continuous stream of fast and controlled bass drum hits. This allows for sustained and rapid double bass drumming, which is a common feature in genres like death metal and grindcore. The name "Gravity Blast" comes from the idea that the drummer's foot appears to defy gravity due to the speed and precision of the bass drumming. It's a challenging technique that requires a lot of practice and coordination to master. As for the actual pedal he is using The Duallist Single-Double Pedal is a unique drum pedal that allows drummers to switch between a single pedal and a double pedal configuration with a single foot. Here’s how you can use it: 1. Set Up the Pedal: • Attach the Duallist Single-Double Pedal to your bass drum by securing it to the hoop or rim, similar to a regular pedal. 2. Select Your Configuration: • The Duallist pedal has a lever or mechanism that allows you to switch between single and double pedal modes. • In the single pedal mode, the pedal functions like a standard bass drum pedal, with one beater hitting the drumhead. • In the double pedal mode, the pedal transforms into a dual pedal setup, allowing you to control two beaters with a single foot.
@dutchdykefinger
@dutchdykefinger 9 ай бұрын
extra info on the pedal: there's this switch on the right side of the pedal to change the pedal single mode to dual mode and vice versa, because if you leave it in double mode, it will trigger a last hit once you release your foot off the pedal, so he drops it down to single throughout the song, to prevent the accidental rebounds to come up, then switches back when he needs the double hits again that's what he does around 3:37 with the kicks to the right, switching from single to double hit modes and everytime he alternates the single hit bass pattern with the double in the chorus, he switches in between single and double mode every 2 bars orso. so he kind of has a whole extra precision movement to do with his feet in between, as well as having to find back his foot on the pedal in a reliable manner after triggering it it's insane how he can just manually change the gears on that bitch as he's playing this stuff.... incredible also, your sound is very muffled, i can hardly hear the hihats at all lol

There's no such thing as talent, it's all willpower. If you can spend four hours a day practicing your craft, for ten years straight, then even you can become an expert at it. Now, this guy's spent fifteen years, so... let that sink in.

To reach this god-level of drumming, you would have to practice and play like he does, which is all day long nearly every day. Amazingly, he is still only in his late 20s. 🤯

he's said himself that it's not talent, it's practice. He says that talent is BS. He practices 4-8 hours per day, for years. Anyone could do what he's doing here if you were to apply yourself to that degree. The problem is most people don't have that kind of drive and discipline.

Okay hold up…. He throws the stick in the air…. Grabs another one from his waistband…. Catches the one in his other hand perfectly…. And proceeds to use two sticks to double stroke the hi hat from top to bottom. And he does this more than once in the same fucking song. That’s literally some super hero shit.

You took a drink from your bottle during the craziest fill of the entire video, and as you were doing so, you paid no mind to it. My suggestion to you for your reactions is to stay focused and don't even let yourself have the possibility of being able to distract yourself like that.
