Imo it's not (just) talent but enough work every day. 1-2 hours from 12. Upping to 2-3 in his teens. Upping to 3-4 in his 20s. Upping even more when depression led him to think and feel he should practice a ton more and record his best before he gave up on life. Then we all got lucky cuz he didn't do the awful thing he could have, stayed humble instead, and eventually recovered some happiness we get to share. 🕊💖

I've only seen one other drummer on YT try that thing, and it was rough. He could only manage one tempo, after getting used to it. I don't know how representative of the general use case that is, but it is possible that you have to adjust its spring tension depending on what song you wanna play. Just speculating! Might be totally wrong and just dependent on the amount of practice.

You are completely correct, he has a natural ability that allows him to play this well. Don't get me wrong he probably still puts in more work and practice than any one out there. But the ability to play a different beat on all 4 limbs at the same time and rapidly changing them as well takes something more than just practice. Estepario has a video that's called something like "am I really a computer" not sure exactly. But it shows him demonstrating this. Best drummer in the world by far.

Another person, phimuskapsi, hit the nail on the head - you need a rhythm to use the switches on the duallist peddle. I as a non-drummer picked it up. El E doesn't decide, "Oh, now I have to switch the peddle." It is, instead, a silent beat in the drum kick track? Rhythm? Rhythm. To change from single strike to double-strike. Ball of foot beats, and heel beats (left and right) so to speak. After that is the issue of muscle memory - you're so used to doing double kicks in one way that when another comes along you either fight that original muscle memory, OR make a new one for a "different" instrument. Hope this helps, guys, enjoyed the react. Cheers.
@DreadDrum11 ай бұрын
Absolutely spot on! It’s a totally different technique and muscle memory. One other thing I noticed about the pedals is that the upstroke is really hard to get any power out of so you either need to use triggers to get consistent double kicks or really lighten up on your down stroke. But with the latter you quickly get to where you’re not hitting the kick hard enough to fully resonate

For me what sets Jorge apart from other great drummers is his musicality and orchestration. There are other drummers out there that are technically capable of playing this, especially if given time to practise, but who else would come up with this cover in the first place? Some "purists" complain that he over plays, which utterly misses the point of what he is doing. He's showing the rest of us, what some one who is at the top of their game, and is a master of their instrument can do, and what is possible. Even when "overplaying" the complex linear grooves and rhythmic patterns he creates always enhance what he's playing along to. Check his drum cover of Eminem's Godzilla, and Linkin Park's Numb. Realy enjoyed your reaction :)
