This was one of the most important scenes from Justified, revealing in clear detail how far Raylan is willing to go outside the law. This as well done as it was, people miss the moment before this which set it up. There was a question that Boyd asked, which Raylan NEVER ANSWERED. Cause Raylan knew what he was set to do and knew he couldn't answer. The question? "I wonder what it is that you tell yourself when you lay down at night that allows you to believe that you're not the bad guy." It's in this moment where you see, before THE MOMENT he's actually worse than his father ever was at his. This is in so many words or not, what set the stage for the homestretch so to speak. The drawn out battle he'd have with the Crowes which would pull Boyd in and inevitably lead to where we all knew it would. Raylan v. Boyd. Raylan by this point wants finality so badly, he kicks the gun to Boyd and Boyd refused to give Raylan the satisfaction of ending it on HIS TERMS. But losing his father, finding out he was on the verge of becoming one himself and nearly having it ripped from him by a Detroit thug... Yeah. I'd have done the exact same thing Raylan did here. Offer you the carrot knowing you will refuse, then leave you in the box on wheels to get that toe tagged. I absolutely loved this and what set it all up.

@@napalmstickylikeglue I think what separated Raylan from the outlaws were two things: his hatred for Arlo (which as of season 6 was no longer a motivation) which was also leading him astray from the path of a lawman, and the lesson that his Aunt Helen imparted on him, to escape and be better than the place he was raised in. He definitely sees himself in Boyd, and Boyd at first sees Raylan as just an outlaw with a badge, but by the end (after Raylan spares him) he sees him as the man who managed to do what no one else could - escape Harlan and the outlaw life. I think if Raylan and Boyd had both been outlaws, they would have still found each other on opposite sides. Easily the "darkest" and the darkest scene in the whole great series.

The funniest part about this scene is the idea that a cop would feel obliged to uphold the law

Moral of the story: never underestimate how far a seemingly "good guy" will go to protect his family and also never underestimate the seemingly pampered son of your mob boss.

But raylan is a good guy , there are many movies were the good guy kills the bad guy for messing with his family , he did what had to be done in order to protect his family from the mafia , i mean they wouldnt have threatend raylan’s family in the first place If it wasnt for the fact that he was a good guy lawman who ruined their plans and put bad guys to jail .

Badass scene, but Art being such a baby about it later on kind of sours it for me. Like what exactly was Raylan supposed to do? Let Nicky go back to Detroit and solidify his position as boss where he would then have the luxury of continuously sending killers after Raylan and his family?
@matthewriley7826 Жыл бұрын
No, he doesn’t care that Nicky died he does care that Raylan committed a crime setting him up like that. Then he admits it, implicating him as well, but can’t do anything because there’s no evidence.

Raylan told him he was going to die in that limo, if raylan says something, he usually means it.

Honestly people like this and the shield makes you understand why sometimes the end justifies the means. The law is not always fair or right so sometimes crossing the line is the only way to end these type of threats

Such a great scene that really gets undercut with the music at the end. Too jaunty and kind of jarring.

This scene clearly demonstrates good vs evil. Raylan was absolutely ethical. "The Law" changes throughout time and from location to location. The Law is not absolute and is of fallible men. One should try to follow the laws of man for one's own best interests. What is legal is not always what is right. What is right is not always legal. I do my best to stay within the bounds of the law. But, I always do the right thing, no matter how ugly it may be.

I don't think Raylan would have let him be killed by Theo Son if Nicky didn't confirm he was gonna come back and kill his family. That sealed his fate. Raylan knows Nicky Augustine is more dangerous than Theo son is

Nicky was kind of a moron. Announcing to a federal officer that he intended to kill his rival and then the officer's family. Raylan couldve hauled him up right then n there and it probably wouldve stuck in court. But, Raylan didnt really WANT to take Nicky alive. So thats that.

Well he was suspended. And Raylan wanted to end things there and then. He didn’t have the patience doing it the “right” way.

Poor Picker - being blown up by the crafty devious Boyd and his explosive brilliance. What a scene for giving up smokes. Here Raylan shows that his Gran shipping him off and ending up as a dead eye at 'Glanco' - that piece of Arlow is forever in him as his son. Here we witnessed the son of Arlow.
