Raylan's swagger, ice cold nerves, and quick wit aren't what make him a fascinating character, his rage does. That rage at people who do wrong and deserve to be punished, everyone identifies with it. His cool exterior is the shiny veneer he wants the world to see, Rylan only ever gives little peaks of how deep his rage is, like this scene. Just like Winona said in the first episode, Raylan is the angriest man you have ever met.

Always wondered the same thing. Even looked to see if maybe they show him sliding it back out. The truth is the whole dynamic of his life could’ve changed in this scene - and even though it bugs me to see Raylan pull a trigger in cold blood (he may be the angriest man in the world, but he only shoots if it’s justified), it’s what makes the scene so compelling and what shows how deeply he feels the loss and injustice of Tom Bergan’s death.
@James-ch6xb11 ай бұрын
Raylan could see which chamber the bullet was in when he lifted the pistol up. He knew how many times he could pull the trigger before the gun actually fired.
@SneakyCheeseThief11 ай бұрын
@@James-ch6xb I think that’s a Smith & Wesson model 19, which has a piece that sits behind the exposed side parts of the cylinder and blocks the cylinder chambers from view. He gives the cylinder a pretty vigorous spin before he flips the swing out closed, so it seems pretty unlikely he’d have any idea which chamber the bullet was in.

Other shows would have made the (understandable) choice to score this with threatening, tense music. Heck, Justified uses musical cues itself frequently. But the absolute lack of music here underscores the savagery of the moment, makes it seem more real. There's no long prelude, no drama to it; Duffy even thinks Raylan is bluffing up until the moment he pulls the trigger. You don't know if the next trigger pull is going to be a empty click or a shot. Instead of music, they let the actors sell the intensity of the scene--and oh boy do they sell it.
@rhizomorph-music Жыл бұрын
Judging by the comments, I think most here don't understand how this play works. The .38 round he put in there is a dummy round... no primer or powder. It won't go off. Of course, Duffy doesn't know this.

See, Raylan was pointing the gun in his direction, not at him directly. But Duffy having been scared shitless by Raylan loading, spinning the chamber, and his little bit about playing by their rules scared the shit out of Duffy. He was too busy trying to think to notice that the gun was pointed to his left. So if it did go off, it wouldn't hit Duffy. A gun going off that appears to be pointing at you, is just as bad as if it WAS pointed at you. You are scared just the same. Raylan bluffed him out of information and gave the correct impression that he was willing to go off the reservation to get information, by any means necessary. Put the fear of Raylan into him. Gotta love that Raylan. His throwing the bullet at Duffy and telling him, "The next one comes faster," line was classic too. He had some good lines with Duffy.
