Next level legendary! 60+ yard field goals and attempts are happening with greater regularity. Brett Maher has a total of four 60+ yard made FG and has never missed from beyond 60. One day, some kicker will hit a 67 yard kick in a meaningless game at a meaningless time but there will never be a better, longer, more clutch FG than Justin Tucker's 66 kick.
@johns96522 жыл бұрын
I think this record will stand for some time, maybe all time. So many factors have to be in play, a close game that can be won (otherwise why chance the field position/runback), too dicey for a hail mary, having a great kicker who actually has a shot, NOT having adverse weather conditions.... I've seen a couple vids about a special fair catch kick rule where you can run up to it, maybe it could be done that way. Tucker is at the apex of human ability, it would take some wild circumstances for this record to ever be beaten, like kicking at MIle High, or having the wind at your back, etc. Still requires a great kicker to start with, who has a "normal" range of at least 60 yards, if the normal range is 55 yards and some outside factor adds 10% to range, still only 60.5 yards.
@RespectfulEaglesFan Жыл бұрын
Fells weird talking about Maher now. He’s still a solid kicker but just, he let one bad game tarnish his reputation,
@alexrobertsfcim Жыл бұрын
Field goals of this length are only ever attempted at the end of the 1st half or 2nd half. Tom Dempsey's 63-yarder was a game-winning kick. The Giants have lost three times on 60+ yard field goals. No team would ever willingly attempt a 60+ yard field goal with time on the clock because a missed kick gives the other team incredible field position; if this were, I dunno, with 5:00 left in the game and Tucker misses it, a 66-yard miss puts the ball on the Ravens' 44 yard line (56 yards in the field + 10 in the endzone = 66 yards). Obviously the risk isn't worth it most of the time, but when it's an end-of-half scenario, the only risk becomes on a potential return, but not for where the ball gets placed on a miss. (Obviously, in this case, there's no risk of a return either, there would be no reason for the Lions to do that, it's a desperation play because, of all the improbable options that could win you the game, Tucker's leg had the best chance of succeeding.)
@Grundini91 Жыл бұрын

They won't attempt a 60+ yard field goal at a meaningless time in the game. Unless it's the last play of the half, or the last play of the game in which you need 3 or fewer points to win or tie, you don't kick a field goal from that far out.

@@sir_cartier112 The field goal team shouldn’t have needed more time, unless you think they just wanted to give the kicker a few more seconds to think about how the whole game was about to be decided by his kick, and how everyone in the entire stadium would be watching him attempt it. That could have been what they had in mind, but it definitely wasn’t, because that would be ridiculous. I’m guessing that they wanted to try to get a quick couple of yards, if possible, and then get out of bounds, immediately, because they knew they were right at the very edge of their kicker’s range, and a couple of yards could have very easily made all the difference, as to whether or not his kick ended up going far enough to get over the crossbar. It looked to me like the receiver must have screwed up, snd forgot what to do in that situation, because the route he ran was totally pointless and stupid. He could have gone out 2 or 3 yards, and then cut to the sidelines. Then, if he’d been open, he could have actually caught a pass and gained some yards, and gotten out of bounds with time left for the field goal. Instead, I guess he figured he’d just go ahead and run his regular 15 or so yard down and out, as if the time had been running out in the 3rd quarter, rather than the 4th. Luckily, the QB wasn’t nearly dumb enough to even think about waiting for the receiver to run his deep out route, like a moron, and he did the only thing that made any sense. He could have possibly had 2 options on the play instead of just the one, of course, but it turned out that the play was absolutely pointless, because there was no one there to throw the ball to, so the other option, which was to just throw it away, was actually the only one he had. The cornerback could have literally dropped dead on the field, before the ball was even snapped, and it still wouldn’t have even made a difference, because the receiver ran to a place where the ball couldn’t have been thrown. That there is really stupid, too, I tell you what. I don’t care who you are, that’s just plain stupid 🤦🏻♂️ 🤦🏼♂️ 🤦♂️ 🤦🏽♂️ 🤦🏾♂️ 🤦🏿♂️ 🙈

I've seen an interview with a Kicker once and he basically said he is barely considered part of the team, because he is basically playing a different game - training and everything is completely separated. Made me a bit sad, considering that they are a crucial part of the game. There is a mayor difference when your punter always makes the opponent have 10 more yards to conquer and there is DEFINITELY a mayor difference whether your kicker can kick you 60+ field goals or not

It's more hilarious that you don't even know it. 1, it was the Cardinals that tried the 68 yard field goal. Not the Jags. Oops. 2, the context of the situation matters. The Cardinals tried it at the end of the first half in a tie game...Not the last play of the game. Also for context being indoors (or in Denver) versus outdoors matters. So which teams might try the kick still depends on a plethora of circumstances. You'll never see most teams attempt it period because they do not have the confidence in their kicker. You'll never see any teams kick it from that distance with substantial time on the clock because of the field position if they miss (unless maybe you're playing the bears and you're expecting 1 yard net passing).

Look at that dumb ass lions player on the end who didnt even bother to try and block it. Tucker took a very long run up to the ball to get power, it would have easily been blocked if the guy just tried lmao
