Hey Justin, I had this same exact issue. Light came on, went to Autozone to get it read. Same issue. Went the cheap route of just buying some coolant and going to fill it. Bought some coolant and before it arrive, one day when driving to school my engine light came on for overheating. I should have pulled over but my mother worked in the town and I was miles away, so I drove there. When I got there. The coolant was bone dry. There was some wetness below the engine. Must of overheated and shot it all out. (Luckily I didn't overhear my engine and seems to run fine) I had to take it in to the shop. Needed to buy a new thermostat and water pump. So frustrating! But a week later when I got it back and paid the bill, I couldn't be mad because I truly love Apollo (Name for my 2006 BMW 325i). Hope you don't run into this! And great job on the videos!!!

You need to bleed the system everytime you open the cap on a BMW or else you risk air bubbles same happen to me 500 dollar lesson Yea bleed I did that now even if a just check it

My BMW X1 seems to be doing the exact same thing except I recently installed a new thermostat. I bought it with "Service engine soon" light on and ran a scan at the car lot and it came back faulty thermostat. Well after paying for the car and making it across town it ran pretty hot, however told me I could continue driving at the speed it had me at around 10mph. Luckily I was 2 miles from the house, got there and ordered an original thermostat for it, installed it, then SES light went out and has been fine up until today and the light came on, I scanned and it came back intake air sensor faulty and low coolant (but expansion tank was full of coolant from when I bled the cooling system a couple of weeks ago. It also came back a code bad circuit in the fan that it was continuously running but the fan hadn't been on because I haven't driven the car yet for the day. So sounds to me like old emmisons that weren't never corrected and deleted or everything is alright and I'm on panic from seeing the SES soon light coming on after replacing the thermostat and everything was good to go.

There's a heating element in the thermostat. these are known to fail on the e90 series. changing the thermostat is the fix. this error pops up during winter time since the coolant is cooler then. then the car detects the lower temperature. just fyi. anyway nice video!

I have a 2002 x5 and last winter i noticed the engine temp barely out of the blue and not getting any higher except if im parked and let it idle. There is a noticeable reduction in the amount of heat when i have the heater on as well but its not cold air. My service engine light doest go on so is it possible its still the thermostat or could it be something else?

Makes sense, I replaced the radiator 2 weeks ago and I purge the system to fill it properly, tomorrow I will definitely check that. My scanner doesn't give me any codes, so I thought that the oil change can be the problem, but is not.

Yeah on my 2001 330i engine check light came on last week, so my mom's friend did an oil change, and my mom check the coolant, thank god I bought some bc it was really low and I also had to replace rotors as well. But my EML light is also coming on when I turn on the car. So I unplugged my battery but apparently that does not work to reset it for BMWs unless you leave it off for certain amount of time. They say to just touch the positive and negative cords together for 5 seconds to reset the codes. I going to go to the guy I bought it from who is a mechanic to see if he can read the code for me this weekend if it doesn't reset.

+Nic Ter think about replacing the fluids. Coolant, brake fluid, etc. check the brakes, there tools for measuring the thickness of the rotors to see if they need to be replaced. I just did my pads and rotors around 50k and they were pretty worn down.
