Justin, that is brilliant on so many levels. Your playing of the great Mick Taylor is absolutely flawless. Secondly, the fact that you know the guitar so well and that your ear is so good that you can pick out the subtleties of Mick’s playing is incredible. I love how you show multiple cameras when there are acoustic parts including harmonics or two electrics. I have watched many videos of others playing Taylor and Richards parts. This is the very best in my opinion.

This is a work of pure genius - a timeless classic. Everything is perfect for the mood and the lyrics which Shelley would have been proud of . The arrangement, the choice of instruments -particularly the piano as backing are so moving. I love Jagger's wistfulness and his vocal intonations which are perfect. And of course Taylors guitar finale is magic.
@FenellaBeach3 жыл бұрын
Just found this and so pleased. One of my favourite solos of all time and you've nailed it - flawless transcription and feel. One of those solos that's just right out there on its own, it just sounds different. Sounds Santana(ish) - but don't know if that was intentional. Read an MT interview many years ago - he said Jagger had promised to share the songwriting credits with him, but it came to nothing - shame, without the solo it's only half the song.
@Justincelos3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you liked it, Fenella, thank you so much! Yes, it is really a shame that MT has not received any songwriting credits for this song. His contribution here is huge, thanks to him it sounds unlike anything the Stones had ever done.

Bravo! I always considered this Taylor's crowning achievement as a soloist in his relatively brief time with the Stones. Does anyone else detect a Carlos Santana-ish vibe in the phrasing or "feel" of this solo? And the tone! I could swear I'm hearing this played through a Mesa Boogie. Witnessing it being so immaculately performed here brought tears to my eyes!
@Justincelos4 жыл бұрын
Many thanks again, Mark Anthony Hauck! You're right in the comparision with Santana, as a matter of fact, I see similarities also in Can't You Hear Me Knocking solo, don't you think? And yes, I used a Mesa Boogie Mark IV for this recording, good ears!!

Wow! I just came across this in my weekly "going down the rabbit hole" of all things Stones on KZbin. This song, for me, is Top 5 Stones songs ever. It's possibly the only guitar solo that can bring tears to my eyes. And Justin, you absolutely nailed it beyond belief!!!! Yes, Mick Taylor would love this (if he hasn't already seen it), and such a pleasure to watch your finger work up close. To my knowledge, , the band has never performed this song live.
@Justincelos3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your very kind words about my playing, Aaron! And yes, this is a really nice solo, which unfortunately was never played live by the Stones.
@aaronsegal28193 жыл бұрын
@@Justincelos One of the best solos ever, by anyone. Never played live, to this day. I believe Mick Taylor has done it live with his own band (will look tonight on KZbin!). Strangely enough, when Taylor toured with them in 2013 ( he only did 2 songs a night with them), this was not one of them.
@aaronsegal28193 жыл бұрын
@@Justincelos How long did it take you to nail that solo?
@Justincelos3 жыл бұрын
I won't lie, @@aaronsegal2819, it took me quite some time ti do it. First I had to listen to all the subtleties MT did in each track, which was not always easy (especially in the acoustic parts). Then I had to learn all the notes and also the fingering (I've seen several videos of this song in which people made the phrases using the 4th finger - instead of the 3rd -, which is not how MT normally plays. Finally, I had to memorize everything.
@aaronsegal28193 жыл бұрын
@@Justincelos That's was one of several things you showed in the video that I loved.... both the acoustic parts & electric. I'm no guitar player( 3 chords!!), but I've always been "'obsessed " with listening carefully to the parts of his solo that are kinda buried under the mix. There is another guy on KZbin that attempts to do the very same song & solo....his name escapes me....he does well but nowhere near your version. There is one major difference, in my opinion: your passion shines through. You can feel it. It shows.

@@Justincelos No, thank you for sharing it, I have watched your finger movement with a very very close eye and have worked a lot of each guitar part out and am sounding really good for only a few days of trying. I am playing the acoustic 100%, the accompanying electric guitar parts during the intro, verse and chorus parts are also 100% there. The accompanying electric guitar parts during both solos and outro parts are also 65%/70% there while I have totally nailed the first lead solo and yet to attempt the second main lead solo. But my guess is that much of the second solo is multiple repeats of the first solo which I already know so I will only need to learn the filler licks to bridge each repeat. Now that part seems pretty tricky, but I am happy for the challenge your video has presented to me, and then I think I shall tackle a few other songs from your videos. I learn more by ear and eye by just watching others play than I ever could learn from watching someone breaking it down in a tutorial with verbal instruction which I find to be a huge distraction for me. And a lot of players upload videos of them playing whilst their fingers are totally hidden so you rarely learn anything other than what part of the neck your hand needs to be at. Your videos are clear, your fingers are 100% visible and your movements are smooth and fluidic, and more importantly at least for me your playing is also very easy to follow. So it should be I that thanks you.

@@Justincelos I have a question. Can you play a song by ear after just hearing it?
@Justincelos Жыл бұрын
Interesting question, @@747heavyboeing3. It depends. In some cases, when the song is not highly complex, I can learn the basic stuff after listening to it once. But to learn all the nuances (for example, the regions of the neck where it was played, or which parts were picked or played with hammer ons and pull offs, or the intensity of the bendings and vibratos, etc), several listens are needed.
