Another great reaction. The song was originally composed in Japanese by Koji Tamaki in 1989. In 1990, it was translated into Cantonese and sang by Jacky Cheung. Next, the song was rewritten and translated for Jacky Cheung to Mandarin under the title “Late Autumn”. In 2004 the Taiwanese singer Terry Lin adapted the song into a new version titled "In Deep Autumn", with lyrics written by Daryl Yao. When Dimash first heard the song, he was deeply moved by it and the story behind it. In order to show gratitude to his Chinese audience, he learned this song in just one week and delivered a brilliant performance. He chose the 2004 Taiwanese version arranged by Terry Lin with Mandarin lyrics but gave it his own interpretation and titled it "Autumn Strong". The audience was very touched and appreciative of Dimash’s show of respect to the song and its history. This song went on to earn Dimash the "Best Foreign Singer" award during the Golden Melody Award in Hong Kong. The song tells the story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a beloved Chinese-born Japanese actress, and singer during World War II, who hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. Following the war, when the Chinese became aware of her Japanese heritage, she was accused of being a spy and sentenced to death by firing squad for treason and collaboration with the Japanese. She was cleared of all charges due to the intervention of influential friends but urged to leave China or risk being lynched. She resettled in Japan where she would continue to enjoy a successful acting career. In the 1950s, she continued her acting career in Hollywood and on Broadway under the name Shirley Yamaguchi but returned to Japan in 1959, retiring from acting. She would go on to become a TV presenter and eventually a politician. She did not return to China for nearly 20 years. This song is saying goodbye to her Chinese name Li Xianglan and everything she is leaving behind.

Bear in mind Dimash don't speak Mandarin but sang in front of predominantly Mandarin speakers in Mainland China. That certainly took guts and extraordinary talent when even the audience understood his dictions perfectly. Not only his dictions and pronunciations are correct, the way he sang them as Chinese songs should be sung.....Dimash is incredible.

Dimash is dearly loved in China. Some of fans were in the USA at the Barclay Center concert in 2019. They start crying before he even starts singing, that's how much he is loved. This is a true story. Back story can be found on the Gloria Wu channel. Thank you both for your heart felt reaction. He learned this song in only a week without speaking the language previously. For those who love Dimash, another must see singer is Zhou Shen from China. Because of his small stature, feminine disposition and voice, he was often bullied in school. Never thinking that he had what it takes to be a singer, he went to the Ukraine to become a dentist. While there, he was convinced that he did have a great singing ability, thus transferred his major to music. Thank goodness he did. As an introduction into Zhou "Charlie" Shen, begin with his premiere performance on the Voice of China singing HuanYan. After this first video, move on to his versions of "Memory", and "Time to Say Goodbye". For something different from him, watch his version of "Ring the Doorbell", "Let It Go" and "Monsters". Last, but definitely not least (there is so much more from him), enjoy the videos, "This is Me" and a very unique and fun song (one of my favs) "Da La Beng Ba". His biggest success is the song "Big Fish". Another singer that is highly rated is Hua Chenyu. Hua was performing on The Singer at the same time Dimash was being introduced to the world on that show. I have a recommendation list, but it is not really in any particular order. "Numchucks", "Child", I am what I am", "Fake Monk", "Friend", and "Dad, I'm Home". With the song, "Dad, I'm Home", it is one of the saddest songs developed. Mind you, Hua Chenyu is a very unique artist doing his own thing. You never really know what you are going to get with each of his songs. Neither Zhou Shen or Hua Chenyu are the full package that Dimash displays, but they are both unique and special with their skills.

The audience is very connected to this song because like many of the songs that Dimash chooses to sing, this song is about a true story very dear to the Chinese and Japanese people about hard things that happened in Chinese society during WWII in response to the barbarity of the Japanese Imperial army in the Asia Pacific including against Chinese and China. The story is about a beloved entertainer living in China unbeknowst to the Chinese that she was Japanese. When the Chinese found out, she was forced to leave China they were angry hurt and felt betrayed and in the emotional context around the conduct of the Japanese during the war; she was never able to return to China. The song is about her feelings and how she never blamed the Chinese people though she longed for them.

Did you hear that? That was the voice of an angel. I have never heard anything close to the music that radiates from this man. It’s never just a song. He lives and breathes musical creations. Someone unknowingly made a comment on one of Dimash’s videos that he can sing in many different languages, but is all learned by sound and rote, and couldn’t possibly know the meanings to express inflections where they belong in a song. The Dears assured this person that Dimash carefully researches his songs and knows EXACTLY what he’s singing about. Autumn Strong is a perfect example of this talent and dedication to his music. ❤️

The thing about this song is that it is based on a true story. Dimashed studied chinese for a week just to sing this song its really sad about a japanese actress YOSHIKO YAMAGUCHI born in china during world war 2 she hid her identity and took a chinese name she became famouse and loved by the chinese people. Another great reaction. The song was originally composed in Japanese by Koji Tamaki in 1989. In 1990, it was translated into Cantonese and sang by Jacky Cheung. Next, the song was rewritten and translated for Jacky Cheung to Mandarin under the title “Late Autumn”. In 2004 the Taiwanese singer Terry Lin adapted the song into a new version titled "In Deep Autumn", with lyrics written by Daryl Yao. When Dimash first heard the song, he was deeply moved by it and the story behind it. In order to show gratitude to his Chinese audience, he learned this song in just one week and delivered a brilliant performance. He chose the 2004 Taiwanese version arranged by Terry Lin with Mandarin lyrics but gave it his own interpretation and titled it "Autumn Strong". The audience was very touched and appreciative of Dimash’s show of respect to the song and its history. This song went on to earn Dimash the "Best Foreign Singer" award during the Golden Melody Award in Hong Kong. The song tells the story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a beloved Chinese-born Japanese actress, and singer during World War II, who hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. Following the war, when the Chinese became aware of her Japanese heritage, she was accused of being a spy and sentenced to death by firing squad for treason and collaboration with the Japanese. She was cleared of all charges due to the intervention of influential friends but urged to leave China or risk being lynched. She resettled in Japan where she would continue to enjoy a successful acting career. In the 1950s, she continued her acting career in Hollywood and on Broadway under the name Shirley Yamaguchi but returned to Japan in 1959, retiring from acting. She would go on to become a TV presenter and eventually a politician. She did not return to China for nearly 20 years. This song is saying goodbye to her Chinese name Li Xianglan and everything she is leaving behind.
