Went to France within the first year of me starting taking good care of my skin [26] and also when I started using more make up for fun/going out etc. I was amazed by French girls and their amazing skin, the little use of make up, etc. I came back home with a new view on everything and the way I see and treat my skin. Gradually I let go or finished the things I wouldn't repurchase, now I just focus on great skin and accentuate my attributes rather than hide what I have. I love loving my skin

Hi Justine, thank you very much for this video. I'm From Russia (St.Petersburg) so I can add a comment regarding the "dry russian hands" phenomenon. It's not only about the weather, it's also (maybe even more) about the water. In St.Petersburg we have a very specific water, they clean it very-very good so not much microelements and staff is left. So, when I go to certain countries in Europe, my hands get extremely dry, because my skin is not used to this water. Things are the worst in Germany and Netherlands for my skin. On the other hand, in Austria my skin looks perfect 'cause of their water. So the water' difference is very important:)

I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought you were going to list a half dozen high end, pricey French luxury brands. I expected to see Caudalie or Clay du Poe but instead you use good ole Garnier miscellar water & Nivea moisturizer. Yes! Good skin care can be simple & inexpensive. Thank you! 👍

Agree. Anyway, in my experience the same brands in center Europe are higher quality than in other countries. I am from México and here Garnier is one of the worst brands I've ever tested, but those Garnier products I got in Switzerland were quite good. (same with L'Oréal and Nivea) I'm just saying that we must consider the quality of ingredients at every country

This is probably because those companies, Garnier and Nivea, asked her to promote them in her routine to most likely advertise. I was surprised as well. If you look back at previous videos about French skin care routines, she does say French women don’t give out their beauty routines. The only product I may see her using, which is a great brand I use regularly, is the eye cream by La Roche Posay. Cheers 😊

Love the fact you used easily accessible products for the 'average woman' and thrilled to see someone use the same moisteriser as me! So many videos push expensive or ultra expensive products which is just not realistic for normal women and I do wonder just how much more effective they are compared to products like Garnier.

Specially good for me was rhassoul clay which I use for cleaning my face, body and my hair. This clay is really inexpensive and works wonderfully...Rosehip oil and rose water are two other favourites of mine... But as you say, it is good to try many different products until you find the best one for you. It is always a joy watching your videos!

You mention the study about dry hands... I can relate! I grew up in oppressive, muggy Florida and later moved to North Dakota, which offers sub-freezing temperatures more than half the year! I grew up thinking I just naturally had thick, wavy, coarse hair. When living in ND, the windy, dry environment turned my hair pin-straight, silky, wispy. Now I'm back in FL and it's somewhere in between! Human beings are amazing adapters but also highly sensitive. Environment is definitely a great place to start when thinking about self care.

Hi Justine, I have always been in awe of how French women take care of their skin. Back in 1985 when I was 22 I went to Paris with my French Canadian mother. My favorite item I bought was a French magazine filled with beautiful photos/advertisements of skincare, treatments, etc. This video brings back a lot of those memories! Now at the age of 54 I still try my best with using sun block, etc. My question is: Do you EVER use soap on your face - even a liquid soap?

Hi Justine, thank you soooo soooo much for this video. I have been living in France for 6 years and I have NEVER found the right products for me based on advice given by Sephora staff and pharmacists. And in winter my skin gets so dry, but the products that I had either don't hydrate enough or they irritate my skin. I went to try some of the products in the video after watching it and have been using them for a couple of months now and the result is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! I cannot thank you enough!!! Please please consider doing a similar video for spring and summer please :)

Fabulous! I totally agree - prevention is better than cure. My personal choice is to use organic products so my skin is not absorbing too many chemicals. I’m not loyal to a specific brand & regularly change face products. However I will occasionally use a pure honey face mask (out of the jar in the kitchen) when taking a bath - and I always use coconut oil to remove eye makeup. I have found it the best for me, it also keeps my lashes in tip top condition.

I am insanely jealous of how even your eye area looks. Mine is a cornucopia of reds, blues and browns all shimmering through the skin. I sleep enough and drink plenty of water and it changes nothing. Thank God for good concealer! Also, if you've never tried Garnier's Hydra Bomb night creme you definitely should - it's like an extremely watery gel type texture and makes your skin feel absolutely amazing.

Great vid so glad u posted! I'm very happy 2c u mention clean hands b4 touching ur face. Far 2many people don't do that and wind up with acne. Glad u mention how important skin care is. Very young YT'ers think applying lots of makeup is fine and hides problem skin but is better to start with pretty skin. I'm learning from Korean ladies to wear heavy sunscreen on my hands bc of the sun tanning hands while driving in summer. In NY we take skincare more seriously than b4 and u see a lot of people with sun-brellas to protect on sunny days. Ur complexion looks gorgeous as always!💐

I also LOVE the Garnier mycellar water with the pink cap. It really cleans well. I've been happy with it. I live in the deep south USA where there is a lot of sun and it is very humid in summer. Sun protection is essential. Whatever skin product I buy I try to make sure it has spf, including makeup. I bought L'oreal 48 hour moisturizer for face recently, the blue one for sensitive skin, but then I read the ingredients and it has aluminum in it (!!), so I am now on the hunt for a good, simple, lightweight face lotion with spf and no metals. Oh, by the way, I love Gold Bond (I don't know whether that brand is in Europe) neck & chest cream. It really improves that area in smoothing and firming - I am 59, and I notice a difference when using it. It's inexpensive. Just passing along the tip. Nice video, Justine, as always. :-) ♡

I was a pale kid who grew up in the California sun. My parents were pretty strict with the sunscreen but I still burned at least once every year The importance of not burning was drilled into me from a young age. When I lived in Turkey I was always horrified by the sight of fair, Northern European tourists baking in the sun.

Neutrogena for hands, especially in winter, is simply the best (pun intended)! I’ve been using it for 10 years and it makes such a filter on your hands, which makes them so soft - even at harsher moments when your hands are really chopped from the cold so much, that they’re bleeding (this happens to me), your hands will be as soft as baby’s hands, seriously, not kidding! ☺️ And thank you Justine, for making such a great video, it’s very informative...but then again you always are and I love your channel! 😍🤗

The one brand I can get every product I need from is Paula's Choice (though I still use a few other products from other brands). Everything is fragrance free and formulated with fantastic ingredients. Also cruelty free! The prices aren't drugstore but they're also not Drunk Elephant prices. With the sales they have I find the prices to be incredibly reasonable, esp for the exceptional quality. I also love that they stress sun care and offer potent targeted solutions for specific concerns. AND you can buy samples!! I'm not affiliated, just a huge fan.

So interesting to hear about your skin routine. Your skin is radiant. I am in my fifties and have had to abandon products like Nivea that I used to use for years. My sensitive, excessively dry and eczema prone skin seems not to tolerate anything but the most inert substances these days. So I cleanse with coconut oil, and moisturize with sweet almond oil with a little hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary added. If my skin is terribly dry I cover it in Vaseline. I use Factor 50 every day summer and winter and have done so for years but take a calcium and Vitamin D supplement to make sure my bones stay strong. My first Dexa bone scan this years showed that I have the bones of a 20 year old so I think the Vit D supplements were a good choice. I am nearly 57 but thanks to that sunscreen with high UVB and UVA rrating I am told I looks years younger for my age. I have begun Retinol 2% in Squaline from The Ordinary every second night. I put all skincare on my neck as well as my face. Oh I do love a good girlie blather about skin care. :D

Hey everyone. I read through the comments and just wanted to add that everything is made of chemical substances, you and everything you know. Yes, even organic ingredients are chemicals. And not everything synthetic is bad, and not everything natural is good. It just depends. Things are more complex than that and not black and white "this is 100% bad always, this is 100% good always". Just saying. Lots of love for Justine!! :) PS: I don't think you can get too much sun protection, so SPF 50 is my default, no matter what. And yes, super important to prevent rather than fix. Bisou!

You're right, it depeds. Chemistry is everywhere, but not everything is chemical, artficial. Radioactivity is perfectly natural, but still lethal. And there are things that are toxic, some ingredients we're still using will be banished soon, like it happened in the past. It doesn't mean those ingredients are evil themselves, just not meant for a body purpose.

I always enjoy your videos and appreciate you sharing reasonabley priced cosmetic products. It's so easy to get carried away with product hype. At 65 I'm wrinkle free. I attribute this to avoiding being in the direct sun because my skin is so fair that I burn very easily. I also live in an area where it the temperature is moderate and it rains frequently which helps keep my skin from drying out. I feel so fortunate that I wasnt a sun worshiper in my youth. Thank you for all you do for us Justine. 😳

I love your videos!!!!! The little research I did living in Canada regarding hands supported the idea of glycerin-based hand creams, but I also read that if you moisturized constantly it backfires, so I only use hand cream in the morning and evening. Not sure if this is supported by the science. Also in centrally heated environments indoors, skin will dry out, and I found a very simple small humidifier with built-in HEPA filter for dog and cat fur, placed in my bedroom made a big difference this winter. Not expensive at all, and possible to put a drop or two of lavender or rosemary oil, or eucalyptus if a winter cold may be on the way without harming my dog and cat. The moisturizers that are suddenly very popular on Amazon.com contain hyoluric (sp, sorry) acid and usually a bit of vit C and E. I know the body produces this substance but it slows down drastically as we age; but it is dependent on a neutral, not over dry environment to work as it's purpose is to hold available moisture in the environment. So yes I walk around with an Evian mister which does not disturb my makeup in those places during the day. I learn so much from each one of your videos, thank you so much for your unflagging generosity and good will. (My mother, a holocaust survivor, was born in Berlin and I can understand the culture shock -- she loved going back; it's a city very much like New York … but not -- how to describe? Basia Witowska Good idea. Especially because it’s changing as I age. I like it better now as my few grays (I’m in my 50’s) have more body and are less oily than I had in my younger life. I’m grateful to God. But by Hair care I mean I’m considering a more minimalist approach and a more green earth conscience and health conscience approach. I’ve considered making my own. And I do make my own dry shampoo. I’m considering a shampoo bar, or no poo, as they say or ... well. I’m not sure. LESS. IS. INDEED. MORE. As I’m a cheap skate at heart but if I can use intentional products that are frugal vs. high end: perfect.

It's very interesting about Japan and sun spots. This is my second year living in Japan and I've seen lots of people here with sun spots and they are very noticeable. And I'm a firm believer of less is more especially on the face!

Having lived in Japan in the past for 3 years I am warning you if you do not do major cover up with tons of SPF sunglasses, hats and Parasols as well as UV gloves - YOU WILL GET THEM. They are not being Victorian- learn to embrace being covered up head to toe. The sun is just that harsh there. I had no idea how bad the sun would be until I got my first sun spot at age 19 from just going outside to walk to the trains- no more than 30 minutes a day of sun in my first year and I am forever marked right under my eye with a sunspot. I'm now 29 and still trying to minimize it with The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang whitening emulsion.

A wonderful video Justine! I have dry and sensitive skin, and often spend more money on skincare than makeup (I don't wear much makeup though), and find it pays off. I agree, less is more . Thank you for the skincare tips, I will definitely be using them :)

I think this video was very helpful, Korean skincare is so hyped right now that even I tried some products, everywhere you can see that korean women have perfect skin and they don't age, I though it's the products they use, but today I found out that it's their skin

it's probably a mix of both reasons: in Korea, having fair (white) skin is considered beautiful so women protect their skin from the sun from an early age - so they do really, actively limit the damage caused by the sun.

I like your skin care philosophy. I keep mine extremely simple. My skin is very oily so I don't need a ton of moisturizer. I find my skin looks better if I just use a mild cleanser and a light moisturizer.

Thanks for sharing this. I've found that since having kids, I spend less time on good skin care, which has resulted in more blemishes. This means I feel the need to wear more makeup. I really want to get back to not needing makeup because I just don't want to spend the time on it.

Nice video. I live in Sweden and my skin is surface dry, sensitive and I’ve had problems with acne. I have learned that my skin loves creams and masks with much moisture and that are non comedogenic. A moisturising serum and bha toner is a must. I also use cleansing milk, micellar water as second cleanser, eye cream, sunscreen and an enzym peel once a week. I usually by products for sensitive skin and read the ingredience list for stuff I want to avoid. My favourite brands is Paulas Choice, Bioderma and Evy. This in combination with the pill to keep my hormones in check have done wonders 🙂 I’m really interested in beauty ideals on a historical and political level and have studied beauty ideals through the history. I find french womens attitude towards beauty very interesting. I have really appreciated watching your videos about it.

Hi Justine! Only recently I came across your channel and I've been binge watching all your videos since then. I found it wonderful that we share pretty much the same skin routine and principals. Looking after my skin is engraved on my approach to life and my personal wellbeing. And I agree when you say that less is more and that it is wiser to prevent than fix damages, so I too prefer extra nourishing creams and/serums and started using anti-ageing products since my early twenties. The result: I turn 40 this year and not a wrinkle to be seen. I personally am a big fun of Nuxe (l'huile prodigieuse I use on my hair over night as well), Rodial, Pixi and now i'm treating myself to Filorga for the big 4 - 0. Your channel is amazing and a true inspiration, unfortunately there are not many comprehensive vloggers for men's skincare. Still a bit of a taboo. I might have to start my own ;-)
