Lee is a great example of the intermediate guitar player. He's learned a lot but still thinks he sucks because he should be a lot better for all the years he's put in. And he's depressed knowing he doesn't have much time at all to practice given work, family, life, etc. I think Justin is giving him hope and yes, emotional support - showing him that even 30 mins a day of focused, structured practice will enable him to get better quicker than he thinks. (And yeah, that includes me and lot of other intermediate players out there - thanks Justin ! )

You're absolutely right and that Lee is showing his shortcomings means a lot. I playing for 6 years now and the last year I felt I made no progress at all, although I played ca. 30min a day. I came back to Justin's Intermediate lessons, started to play with a metronome and and most of all made a practice schedule. Now that a practice focused for about 2 month now, I made a lot of progress in timing , improvising in blues lead and music theory. @Justin: By far, you're the best teacher on the net and I love your empathy and passion you have for teaching and the little smile you always have when your're playing. Thank you.

Perfectly stated. Being a bookwork I even understand a lot of the theory (chord makeup, scale degrees, circle of fifths, etc) but without some disciplined practice I just come back to the same 5 licks over and over and complain about why I never get any better. Fantastic to see the struggle and the willingness to "Take one for the team" that Lee is doing here. Lee you are playing the part of a zillion people.

I'm sitting here with my guitar going along with these lessons and it's so nice seeing Lee going through similar problems as me, and for whatever reason, that makes it easier for me to go through them as well. So please keep doing these lessons. Good job fixing the audio issues as well, Justin.

It dosnt matter how long you been playing....so you need to let go of your ego.... but you need to FOCUS and FEEL....so your brain can ABSORB it.. but absorb it CORRECTLY....it's fixing the mechanic... just like a pitcher pitching a ball different ways. I also play the DRUMS.....You actaully need to go EVERY BEAT ...Slowly when learning a new groove....You have All youg body parts moving when playing the drums.lmao

You know playing in 3rd...is the SAME as playing DIADS..right??? if you play in 4th...you'll just remember LYDIAN is the only mode with a #4 if you play in 5th.....locrian is the only mode with b5 if you play in 6th....you'll know dorian is the only minor mode with Maj6...

Lee, the biggest obstacle that you can be facing right now is the attachment to the image you want to uphold. I go through it myself all of the time where it's hard to admit I'm not doing well at something or that I truly don't know it. My defense mechanism is to skip around the point trying to convince the other person, and myself, I actually do know it, I just made a mistake, instead of being candid with myself, as well as them, and admitting I just honestly don't know it and that I'm not good at it yet. It takes a lot to say that out loud and admit it, because it's risking "exposing" yourself to the other person that you want to view you in a certain manner and challenging your self image, but it's important to realize doing that is such a crucial part of learning. These videos are fantastic and you WILL accomplish all your goals you set out for yourself! You're already a good player and keeping up with Justin will bring your visions of playing into reality. Thank you for the uploads and I can't wait for the next one :) (so I can spend time watching it instead of practicing myself, hah!)

Lee if you're reading some feedback, download VLC video player and install it. it allows you to loop any part of a song and slow the play speed to 50% in increments of 5%. You can also download YT videos to use on VLC by installing YTD program. google them. These 2 tools really help me learn the songs I do.

On Lee's annoyance regarding scrolling through videos to get back to play something he missed. As long as you've focused the KZbin video with the mouse you can press J or L to go back 10 secs or forward 10s respectively. Might lessen the struggle to find the specific parts with the mouse.

This live lesson format (along with the Rut Buster series) has been incredibly helpful! Lee has been asking many of the questions that I have in real time. Although this takes the lesson a little off track, it seems to be helping me tie concepts together. Thank you so much for doing this series! On a side note, I have been watching Justin’s videos for over ten years and have learned so much from him! I recommend Justin guitar to everyone I encounter that is learning the guitar. The Anderton’s videos have also been a staple in my KZbin diet for years! Keep up the great work guys! Hopefully I can visit Anderton’s when I head to Europe in July.

As an aside, here are 2 things that happen when I play or practice. 1)My picking hand goes cold. Like noticeably cold and harder to move compared to my fretting hand. 2)Tension! I know tension is the killer but I can't seem to relax and the longer I play, my shoulder and elbow get sore. I know it's bad technique, age and a job that sometimes takes its toll on my hands...

Just watching this series and the RutBusters series I have picked up little pointers and tips here and there. Justin's communications skills are so good that he can explain concepts and ideas that can be difficult, but become so clear. And really, that's the best sign of a good teacher/instructor, is how well they can communicate a concept or an idea in simple terms or in several different ways so it can be easily understood.

Great lessons and tutorials and the attention to detail is what's really helping me bring it all together finally! Finally managing to play SRV's Pride and Joy (pretty well) thanks to you dude, so thank you! Looking forward to more undoing of bad technique and 'rewriting the code'. Really enjoying seeing Lee develop and it's certainly helping my own playing too as I feel I'm at a similar stage and age as him. These lessons and observations are so much better than the majority of on line you tube videos where simply the 'expert' just demonstrates what to do and usually we learn far less than the discussions you are having. Having said that I am also still loving the website and learning so much on there too. As others have also mentioned you have reinvigorated my guitar playing and interest. Superb.

Way go on the Little Wing progress Lee! Keep it up! It reassuring yet completely scares me that I'm on the very beginning stages of learning guitar and someone who has been playing so long and who I've seen play tons of songs really well has the same issues I've got. I came from piano lessons as a kid and the fret board seems so random and complicated to me. I'm also learning from a book that puts theory and site reading sheet music first. Not popular songs. I'm going to start getting away from that because I'm tired of practicing nursery rhymes on 3 or 4 strings.

Decides i wanted to do this kind of practise session, so I spent 10 minutes practising the majorscale with the metronome. The i desided I would try to learn little wing for 10 mintues and then I would play with my looper pedal for 10 minutes. Ended up practising little wing for half an hour then being too cold to sit in my room anymore so i went into another room and played some more

Great session guys, thank you. My guitar teacher had me learn the thirds of the major scale but I don’t know the reasons why. What are the advantages of learning it this way and in 4ths and 2nds even? Thanks

Hi, what is the series or link to the lessons you mention at 30.34. I am at a similiar point of my playing to Lee and am finding these lessons very helpful. Many thanks to you and Lee for making these avaliable to all. 😊👍

Hey Justine and Lee, thanks for sharing this. If there's anything I would like to change with this format is: Stop talking and practice! Isn't better if you watch Lee play more to see how he is doing the technique instead of Lee just going “yeah I understand” and then not trying out what you just told him to do. How are you going to see if he really picks up your teaching if you can't see him practice it? : ) Yes I understand there has to be talking to understand and might not be so fun watching Lee not play so good (still a lot better than me)...

It seems to me that Lee has his thumb way to far over the neck which will really bend his wrist and make it very difficult to fret notes on the higher strings when practicing Little Wing.

Justin this is great, and thank you for introducing me to a whole new guitar world with Lee, Chappers, Rabea, Danish Pete and the whole Andertons crew! Love their videos. But now I am spoiled and want to see you put out videos more often. :) And how about some bloopers videos, behind the scenes video, a tour of your studio, your guitars collection, the way you do your editing and recording and so on. Thank you! :)

Lee, if you pay for the KZbin, you can download the videos and then move forwards and backwards much more precisely and/or in slow or fast motion.

38:49 - Captain asks about an acronym for memorizing string names. My mnemonic has always been (from bottom to top string) "Eat A Darn Good Breakfast Everyday".

steevkelly yea but honestly that’s something that you should just know anyways. You really shouldn’t need to memorize the notes the strings are tuned to because eventually you’ll need to just look at a note anywhere on the neck and know right away what note it is.

@@dansands6363 - yep, i learned the mnemonic when i was 12 and just starting, and used it with my students that were just starting out when i was teaching. it's handy when you know zero about guitar - there's so much stuff that we'd consider simple to learn when you first take it up.
