Thanks, Justin. For those quickly reviewing, here is the list of "simple" 3-chord songs mentioned in this video: 1. "Me and Charlie" by Lee Hazelwood (obscure, folky song), 2. "Knocking on Heavens Door" by Bob Dylan, 3. "Lucky Man" by The Verve, 4. "Working Class Hero" by John Lennon (expletives and all), 5. "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield (personally, I think there's more than 3), 6. "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison (extra guitar riffing can be distracting), 7. "Glory Days" by Bruce Springfield, 8. "Breakfast at Tiffanys" by Deep Blue Something, 9. "Save Tonight" by Eagle Eyed Cherry (strumming can be distracting), 10. "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison (tuned in Eb).

Thanks Justin. I play ukulele but was mesmerised by this lesson. I read Norman’s book a few years ago and was inspired by it but even more by learning that mistakes make your brain grow. I think that is very important to know as perfectionism is a trap which causes a lot of unhappiness I believe. Thank you so much. I will be standing on one leg before I practise as I’m 74 but importantly will be embracing mistakes from now on. Best wishes from Ruth

Annie by James blunt is one worth checking out, has 4 basic open chords, with a nice strumming pattern, one of the first ones I learnt

America by Marcy Playground. 4 standard open chords. Great acoustic camp fire song that most people don't have in their repertoire and is easy to learn (minus the brief solo)

First one I worked out for myself was Better Off Without Me by Jack Savoretti. I think he embellishes it at times but I'm happy with the 4 chords that I use. And it's dead slow so that really helps. Guitar is upfront. Just a lovely song.

The great song of easy open chords (including easy minor) - and is in 123 - 123 timing is 'The Times They Are A'changin' by Bob Dylan. Great fun to play - and easy. The song has one embellishment that can be worked out later - either by ear or checking on the web.

I've been transcribing, since Justin taught me to play, years ago. Back when he had the Jedi and his vocal pet badger, (haha, looks like a Badger maybe it's something else). Now I sometimes go back and replay songs I did way back when , and say, what was I thinking. . . . so sometimes, you get will them right and sometimes you won't. I find what I can online, which many are wrong (in my opinion) But I can't get mad, people are trying, they are happy to post because they think they know it. Well, it's one of the reasons why I do what I do. I find what I can, test it, edit it and then put them into a collection. Why invent the wheel, when it's been done already ? (plus do all that extra typing) When it comes to music, if it sounds right to you then go with it. If it doesn't, find what works for you and don't worry about what others think. I love playing, I can sit and play for hours, sometimes even catching my own mistakes, but its part of learning, right. In the end its all about having fun and enjoying the feeling that playing music gives you. The learning part is cool too, so you can figure songs out faster without getting frustrated. Now I will say, yes there are many times, the song your wanting to play, has been done right and you don't have to do anything, but don't make the mistake of trusting them. Sorry for the ramble but, I was at a party and to make a long story short. This girl said she would sing, if I would play the song on guitar for her. Well, that doesn't happen everyday, so I said sure no problem. I had heard the song before, but did not know how to play it. Yeah, you guess it, grabbed a copy from online (that was highly rated many 5 stars) printed it off and said ok lets do this. It was terrible, and embarrassing, for me and her. I said to myself, "never again will I ever trust a tab without testing it first". So let that be a lesson to ya folks. It's like when someone hands you a guitar and says, "Can you play this, bla, bla, bla". Don't do it ! Play something you know upside down and backwards, because sometimes people are just out to embarrass you. Plus thinking you know a song, and playing it under pressure are two different things, trust me. Sorry Justin to go on like and idiot, but if you could redo something over again the right way would you want to. I know it's happened to you too. Hind sight is 20/20.

I am wondering what is a good free app to help transcribe songs that allows you to loop parts of songs over and over again. An app to break down the song into small chunks. But also has an option to not show what chord is being played. I use chord ai but shows chord being played but is useful because of the looper option. Thank you for any suggestions.

Hey Justin, been using you lesson to learn for about a month now and I’m ready to move onto the next lessons, but I’m having trouble deciding between the phone app and your website. Both have qualities I like, pc for watching the videos but phone app for practice sessions. Do you know when we will see a connection between the two so I can use both the website and the app with one account? I don’t fancy paying for both the website and the app since I’m a college student

I started your course lm not exactly a beginner. My wife wants me to take classes with a teacher. I'm kinda torn maybe l could progress faster with you. She says a teacher again. At 110 a month! What's your opinion l value it ? I'm a big fan from Alabama.
@lewisbsalford
@lewisbsalford Жыл бұрын
I think it's good that your wife wants to support you even with the extra cost. A real life teacher would be better as well as they can watch you play and point out where you're going wrong as you're doing it. Whereas just watching videos you won't have the luxury of that, it'll help your progression and speed up you're learning. For eg if you have any questions you can ask your teacher and really get deep into the workings of different song structures and why they are the way they are. Justin is definitely one of the best on here and I've learnt a lot from him myself but if you're looking at this as something you want to dedicate a part of your energy to then 100% getting a teacher would be a good decision 👍 good luck

A lot of people study with my lessons and then just do a monthly session with a teacher to check in with how things are going. Private one on one lessons are better than my lessons IF, and it's a big IF, the teacher is good. My online lessons are (I really hope) easier to follow and faster to progress than with a poor one on one teacher. Know what I mean? Good luck with whatever you choose! :)

No problem, obviously the more quality information from different the better. Reading back through my comment it could be taken as just having a guitar teacher is the better option but what I mean was having a teacher to compliment Justin's lessons. It's hard finding a good teacher or one that can cater to your taste of music. Obviously learning as many styles are ultimately better and will make you a more rounded player with plenty of stuff in the toolbox to create your own sound but to start with learning songs you know and like a lot will bring you on so much, then get deeper into that guitarists style and influences and that'll lead you onto bidder and greater things.

Honestly just try to get maybe even a cheap electric guitar if possible. Having an acoustic guitar is the reason I lost all interest in guitar when I first got it in 2007 because all I wanted to play was Classic Rock and the acoustic wasn't meant for that. I finally got myself an electric guitar in 2020 after getting a job and have been playing it since then on a daily basis. Idk which part of the world you live but I got my first set of a basic les paul copy and a fender amp for about $250.

Blady - good songs are good songs and will sound fine on any type of guitar, even stripped back to a simple campfire strumming style on an acoustic. But, if your passion burns for an electric guitar then the answer that must be worth exploring is to go to a guitar shop and try some out. Note - even on an electric, for good quality learning you should play clean. When your routine is done and the fun time starts then for sure crank the volume and distortion. But learn clean to hear what you are playing and be able to discern any mistakes. Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com
