Parents are funny when it comes to their kid's music. I remember leaving the house to go see David Gilmour on a solo tour in the early to mid 80's, when my mom stopped me and asked "who are you going to see?". I replied, "you wouldn't know". She then said, "I might". I told her "David Gilmour". Her response, "that's nice". Funny thing is that the same is probably true now between my generation (late boomers) and Gen Z! Life repeats itself, doesn't it!

I’m a huge Dirty Honey fan from the beginning. I’ve seen them live three times now, all fantastic, high-energy shows! Marc has the right amount of charisma to draw you in, without ever coming off as unapproachable and ‘rock royalty elitist.’ He’s often in the audience now when he sings “Another Last Time,” which is just a fun, sexy, old school sounding good time…held my hand and sang right to me in September! This band makes me feel young again (I’m 51), and really that’s what I want in my music these days!💃🏻

@@afterdinnercreations936 Absolutely... Sadder still, it becomes formulaic and gets ran into the ground. Look at mainstream "rock" music today... It's the same crap as the Nickelback, Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd" crap that was on the radio when I was in high school 20 years ago... Worse still, look at "country" music today. It's basically the same as that 2000's "booty rock" mixed with 20 year old hip hop... Just generic fodder for the lowest common denominator... People keep buying it and eating it up like chicken nuggets from McDonald's... They suck, but it's cheap, easy, convenient, and requires the least amount if effort to produce, sell, and consume by all parties involved.
@SoundBuckle
@SoundBuckle 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrsGuit yes, but music becomes 'mainstream' because it's popular and in demand, and because of that it's reproduced, and therefore recognisable (and perhaps boring to musicians). All music is formulaic - time signatures and keys determine that. Also, guitars and the broader music track are only part of song. Plenty of brilliant songs have very simple music, with impactful lyrics. A good songs blends all elements, often each very simple in their own right.

Justin, you have a really, really great ear. I'm so freaking envious. There are uncountable numbers of kids in uncountable garages and basements making rock music. Rock is *not* dead. My impression of Dirty Honey is that they're great musicians with a wide range of influences. The first thing I thought of when I heard them is that there is a definite 'Southern Boogie' thing going on. The lyrics are not the strong point at this time, but the chops are there.

Cheers for your brilliant insightful content Justin.

I think they sound great, really dig their sound, regardless of whether they sound familiar or not. As the great EVH once said "If it sounds good, it is good!!", never heard a better perspective on what sounds good than that!!

Their new album, Can't Find The Brakes, is great. I've added 7 songs of that album to my Spotify playlist, which is impressive. Usually I like 3 maybe 4 songs when I hear a new album and that's it.

Great band. Great song. Elements of the build up at the start reminds me of Eric Clapton’s “if I could change the world”. Lots of really good influences on show there. Really interesting and informative clip Justin. Thank you.

Shout out to to Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown!! Another great rock and roll band that’s been out there for a while but killing it with every record!! Saw them open for Rival Sons back in early 2013 when Rival Sons was on the Head Down tour.

TB and The Shakedown were great live. I’ve seen them open for Blackberry Smoke three times. They haven’t been the same since bassist Noah Denny left the band a few years ago. They seem stuck and have become derivative of themselves and only one band can do that well - AC DC

Love what you were saying about rock being stuck in a 50-year old template and how many will dismiss any deviation. Personally I've been exploring and loving new artists that don't stay stuck in the past. (LOVE Dirty Honey btw so this isn't a diss). One in particular I've been really digging lately is Palaye Royale, who are a little 70s glam and rock but then have their own style.

Not related to the video but just wanted to say I saw you play in Canberra, Australia a few weeks ago. Show without the air con. I honestly liked a few of your bands songs and though yeh that will be fun as we don’t get many too big name bands come to Canberra. All I can say is my god!!! You guys rocked so hard and powered through the heat. Was an amazing show and have turned me into a mega fan. Hope to see you guys live again as it truely was an amazing rock show. Thanks

Dirty Honey is the best young man out there for sure. We flew all away from Tennessee to Las Vegas just to see them recently because they were playing on a weekday in Tennessee and we weren’t able to make it. They play rock ‘n’ roll, they’re down to earth guys, who just go out and put on a great show for the fans and kick ass.

This popped up in my suggestions awhile back and I had about the same reaction as Justin. I'm 62 so my teen years were the 70s and this song is absolutely a well done mash up of a lot of what we were listening to. I'm hoping that with so many folks picking up the guitar during the covid lock downs, guitar driven music will be making a resurgence.

I am one of the fortunate to have been a kid in the seventies. Little did we know that the music on our FM stations in the mid to late years of that decade, was from a few years prior. All of these amazing "new" bands had been making records long before they got heavy airplay and sold out arenas. The foundation of rock - there are only so many riffs and melodies and everything is somewhat derivative of what came before. Every now and then an artist conjures up a recipe of notes, arrangements, musicianship, imagination ...combines just the right elements to produce something fresh and timeless. Dirty Honey has a good sound but nothing new or enduring in this tune.
