Holy Sh*t, one of the KZbinrs I watch regularly is cheking out Dimash! When I bought the Permission to Land CD back in 2003 never did I imagine I would later watch Justin Hawkins talk about the man I now consider to the best vocalist alive and an artist I have travelled to other continents to watch/hear live. Pretty sure your comment section is filled with comments about Dimash's versatility. Dimash loves all kinds of music and wants to do it all,so he does. Also, during a 3-4h concert he can't only sing the heavy and very voice demanding songs - he needs some lighter stuff in between (and so do the audience!). He truly utilizes his voice to the max in many songs, songs like The Story Of One Sky, Know, Ave Maria, Love Of Tired Swans, Stranger, Battle Of Memories are less pop, he also does some folk/folk-rock, he even sang the Go Go Power Rangers tune for a chinese OST" His voice truly can do it all and he loves to explore and cross between genres. Thank you for your reaction!

Hip Hop represents a wide array of styles, ranging from a technical display of flows and rhythms..- kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHeVaIhqnK10fc0 ..to something mellower, more vibe-y and sentimental like this tribute to a fictional setting in a commercially successful video game in history. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGK5qWBvibqssKM Furthermore, the lack of traditional melodic or harmonic outline in rapping is precisely a unique challenge in itself because rapping demands its performer to develop a distinct style and techniques, as well as the ability to stay in tune with the music. This is because rapping still emphasizes elements such as rhythms, groove a.k.a flow, intonation, articulation and tone. I presume your experience about rapping may be limited to what's played on the radio, all those mainstream stuff. Because if you ever try to explore deeper and outside the mainstream realm, you'll find more underappreciated stuff like this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqivinuin7Wfi8k You hear that clearly there, a rapper who's actually rapping in odd time signatures over a modern jazz/fusion composition. Been following Dimash since 2017 and from what I've gathered, he doesn't confine himself in a specific genre although many of his famous songs might sound more pop-ish. I'm especially impressed whenever he puts out songs of traditional sounds, folk genre. Most young singers these days don't do that. I'm glad he's not boxed into any spesific genre. It creates a surprise element whenever he announce a new song coming up. Dimash's hands/fingers is one of the most favourite topic of Dimash aside from his face among his fans. They say his hands always look like he's playing invisible instruments or sometimes like he is counting fingers or waging his pointer finger. You'd realise in some performances the cameraman focuses some few seconds just on his hands as if on purpose. As if they probably know what the fans are very intrigued about.

1. If you really want to know Dimash, who he is, what he is capable of, what he thinks, go watch "The Story of One Sky". It is a Requiem he composed himself for 3 years. The plot of the Music Video was written by him. He sings and he acts in this video too. The key to understand the plot is "Man is the caravan, life is the path", a Kazakh proverb. The song is in English. It is a 13 minutes video. There you can see that Dimash has not this incredible voice, he is a human with values and he has no fear to tell the world what he thinks, what matters for him. 2. Dimash was invited to be a tenor in the main opera in Kazakstan but he wants to follow his own path singing what he calls a neoclassic genre that mix opera and different pop "genres". 3. Dimash always "paints" his notes with his hands. Hug from Brazil! The Story of One Sky MV kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4HWm6qpbpx5paM

He has complete autonomy, rest assured. He’s said that the only advice his parents gave him was when he was a teenager: “son, one day your voice will be heard around the world, please aim to have something worthy to say” (paraphrased). This is just a signature song for him. Stranger is an original written specifically for him and has more range and genre bending. He also released 2 new original songs in the past year that are not even remotely pop - The Story of One Sky is incredible and is all over the map vocally with some throat singing, metal screams, traditional “yodels”, etc. and El Amor En Ti is a combination of classical and pop jazz where he becomes his own quartet. You can see both those songs back to back and sung live from his Stranger concert that is on his channel in part 3 (meaning he had already been singing for about 3 hours beforehand). He composed both of them himself. Give those a listen and you will change your tune. 😉

Ican probably point you towards something you'd like better. He sings classical, pop, jazz, rock, rap, ballads, all kinds of ethnic traditional, film themes, video game themes, TV themes and more. Dimash was offered a position with the opera house in Astana, I think it was that city. Anyway, it was in Kazakhstan. He declined because he wanted to cut his own musical path and create his own style of music. With a talent such as his, he should be given the opportunity, without criticism, to follow the beat of his own drum. Even these days, he trains vocally for 3-5 hrs, a day every day. He has dedicated his life since the age of five doing what he felt was the only thing in life he has ever wanted to do. I for one, am so glad to be able to appreciate his hard work and God-given talent.

Dimash no hace sólo música pap, su estilo básicamente es el neoclásico, o crossover, pero también hace pop, rock, folclore de su amado Kazajistán, baladas, rap, es la célula madre de la música!

Dimash does three and a half hour concerts. It would be very difficult for him to sing one challenging song after another. Putting in some pop songs in the mix gives him time to rest his voice a little. Plus a lot of his songs are very emotional stories. The audience would be wrecks listening to that all evening. We need a bit of light relief. I suggest you watch a whole concert to experience what he has to offer. The recent Almatey concert is on you tube in three parts. Tell us after seeing that, that he is wasting his talent.

This performance was for his online concert done during the pandemic. Ive been alive long enough to have lived through the greatest artists in recent history and have never heard anything like him before. Ive heard many metal reactors say that they'd love for Devin Townsend to write songs for him and I have to say i agree. Dimash is currently living in LA and has been busy composing and recording the soundtrack for the latest Jackie Chan movie as well as finishing a song he started prepandemic with Walter Afanasieff who wrote the Titanic theme tune. I understand your comments about the pop side but Dimash is incredibly savvy when it comes to the music business and is fully aware that his more operatic songs don't appeal to the masses. In order to be a commercial success too he has to dumb it down for the average listener. I mean, look how many unpleasant comments you already have in here about him over singing? He's fully aware of what a lot of people think about him.
@johnjohn37371 Жыл бұрын
I hadn't heard the Devin Townsend take..that would be very interesting, considering how progressive and eclectic Devy has gotten in his older years. I'm sure he could come with something incredible, but I would love to hear Dimash sing the relatively simple "Why?" (I have just always really enjoyed that song). Can you imagine Dimash exploring Devin's past releases and hearing "Love" for the first time?🤣🤣🤣

What 'operatic songs'? I've heard pop, popera, Russian folk, some kind of theme tune, but nothing operatic. And I know traditional opera.

BTW, I don't consider practicing restraint and curtailing the vocal gymnastics to be "dumbing it down" in every instance...even some of us poor, unrefined, average listeners have extensive musical training and understand that less can oftentimes be more when the song demands a simpler approach...there are plenty of examples of performers doing vocal cartwheels in commercially successful songs...people would be much more supportive of Dimash overall if his fanbase wasn't so toxic...the tiniest critique or suggestion that he isn't the greatest vocalist ever born generally results in a massive assault from obsessed "Dears" that, for some reason, fail to recognize that his vocal stylings may not be everyone's cup of tea...it doesn't mean we have an inadequate or undeveloped, unrefined ear...it means we just don't love him like you do...and I'm sorry, but that's allowed...
@debbiemorgan859 Жыл бұрын
@@johnjohn37371 ok, maybe I was a bit lazy in using the term "dumb it down" but you have to admit that most pop these days, whether it's Dimash or anyone else is almost formulaic. It's easy listening to appeal to the masses. I'm not knocking it, it will always have it's place. If I had to listen to only Dimash's vocal acrobatic songs then I probably wouldn't listen to him every day but the fact that he has such a wide variety of music and that you never know what to expect from him next is what excites me the most. My mother used to listen to Status Quo and I was so bored as they used to be the same in every single song. As for the toxic fanbase, I agree that there are some toxic fans, I'm seeing them here in this comment section but you will find toxic fans in every fanbase. In my opinion the BTS and Diana Ankudinova fanbase are far more toxic than Dimash's. I'll only defend Dimash if I see absolutely stupid comments made or completely uneducated ones and then I try to do it respectfully but as we all know what's written down doesn't always come over as we're thinking it.

Watch Dimash Live Almaty Concert song = Story Of One Sky = Full on energy, full on voice(s), rocker scream at end... (btw performed 3rd hour in of concert) I too feel like his "pop" songs are a waste of talent (although I feel disloyal saying anything even slightly negative towards Dimash) He made a conscious choice in creating his own genre (completely encouraged by everyone to become strictly Opera but he wanted more = to expose his voice, music & performance to a wider /diverse audience).....If you look at his concert audiences (as well as fans) = all ages, all ethnicities, all music genre lovers,,,,,(i.e. able to sell out New York concert appearance in 10 minutes...although his music is not "radio play", etc. or even something one might listen to as a "personal pick", watching him perform is appreciated/respected by most ♥

He’s done far more songs that aren’t pop vibe at all than that are… I wish you had listed what you have seen already. Stranger (New Wave), Olimpico (version on composer Igor Krutoy’s channel with thumbnail of ring of white lights), Ave Maria, Love of Tired Swans (music video), Adagio (version from The Singer), Know (Vocalise version is so cool), Autumn Strong (the version in red suit from his Kyiv concert is exquisite), War & Peace from his digital show (he composed that 1 himself), Ikanaide from Tokyo Jazz Festival (sung in studio during pandemic, same tune as Autumn Strong but different Japanese lyrics vs Mandarin & different feel & techniques)… His traditional Kazakh songs like Samaltau, Adai+Daididau, & so many more…. None of those are “pop” at all…

Aloha Justin! To me, Dimash is the whole package that commands the stage with his vocal abilities. I understand what you are saying about using his skills for just plain old mainstream songs. But here’s where the difference lies, Dimash puts his whole souls into everything he does and not one of his songs has the same vibe throughout! He takes you on a journey and draws you in like a sorcerer! His voice and abilities are great for movie soundtracks! He is on a level unmatched! Another artist that comes close though is Hua Chenyu; another musical genius that commands the stage and engages the audience. Check out: Nunchucks, Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Jackdaw Boy and I Don’t Care. I really never got into too much of the mainstream music because it is the same ol’ song sequence but these two changed it up and mashed it together into masterpieces!

If you want to hear Dimash doing subharmonics and full on screaming a là Metal you can catch that in the live fancam version of ‘The Story of One Sky’. The ‘scream’ is more authentic and technically on point in the official MV. He’s dabbled with rock in songs like ‘War and Peace’ and the Kazakh folk/rock song ‘Durduraz’. But like you I want to hear him fully commit to a rock or metal track to let that Lamborghini out of the garage. He has all the tools and techniques to smash it. I think he’s a bit damned if you do and damned if you don’t with his fans and detractors. Still love his skill and demeanour but being a rock/alt-rock girl I’m gagging for a song in those genres. Peace.

You say it yourself, that he is currently writing his thesis, so he is not a PhD yet. Please use the title "Dr." when it is appropriate, that is, when he actually gets it after writing and defending his thesis. He is good enough in what he does, there's no need to overstate things he did not do (yet). I am a PhD student myself, just finishing my thesis, and would never ever want anyone to call me "Dr." until I actually get the title. Many people study and write their thesis, not many actually finishes the process.

My dear Sanders, PhDs are "a dime a dozen in this bunch, so what makes you think you're hot shi* " (my Dad to a brother) Mine from Emory, siblings from Stanford, Cal Tech, University of Chicago and one a tenured professor of physics at UCON, my Dad, MIT, my Mother, Oberlin and therein lies the proverbial rub. We are all musicians as well, and my sister (Oberlin) and I grew up in Kazakhstan, my father working as an independent consultant in their then burgeoning oil industry. My sister and several friends went to uni with him and the program he's in is so rarified, few quality, fewer complete it. His thesis will take years, that's a given and very often the liberty of the honorific is given in light of this situation. It's the only Doctorate that's ever impressed any of us, so rigorous, demanding and overwhelming to those of faint heart. Ha ! He has a brilliant music intellect, mapped this course years ago to get the weight of the absolute necessity of this stringent exercise in education behind him as soon as possible enabling him to begin to compose seriously and teach on the university level later in life. Good luck on yours ! And I'll call him anything I choose, except a call to go to the grocery store. He draws the line there, won't even go for his Mom. Throws his keys to Mansur and runs ! 🤣
