I really like this problemsolving, practical video. I wonder if there is any hairstyle you find looks good airdried…? since I got chronicly ill I simply cannot hold my arms up for that long to blow dry my hair or use hot tools😔. Fabulous point to make. Some of us have no idea of what to do really with our hair after the hairdresser has done a wonderful job. I or we try, give it a go - to copy it when we get home but nothing goes right, looking in the mirror everything is reversed, so I just leave it be natural and live with that. It would be terrific to learn how to style our own hair and at least get it looking something like it was after leaving the hairdresser. 👍😊

Tbh every time I leave the salon, my hair is flat because the stylist just blow dries like normal and also conditions my hair from roots to the end, which for fine hair weighs it down. It always looks better the next day after I shower and style it myself because I’ve been dealing with my own hair for 42 years trying to make it look more voluminous and thicker, so I have learned a few things over the years. This video is validating some of those techniques I figured out in my own!

I hate the way they over blow and straighten the hair. I usually wash it again and air dry it with a bit of beach salt spray, lift it in a bun for 20 min and then let it free. It’s not bad.

Grateful for more videos on fine, thin hair. My hair is fine, thin, see-through hair that distresses me greatly as I age and go forward. There isn’t a hair length that works for me and I prefer my “look” with longer hair knowing it ostensibly “should” be a bit more short. As someone commented, please use a model that truly has fine, thin hair. This lady in my opinion has a lot of hair! Thank you, Justin.

This worked great for me! Thank you. I wasn't working the mousse all the way from root to end. I've tried this 3 times now and it's working a lot better. My hair even turned out nice and fluffy, stay in place this morning and it was raining. My hair never turns out good when it's damp or humid out. I appreciate the short and to-the-point video. I have to use unscented products for my hair and it took forever to find what would work. Now if they don't discontinue them like so many other products I use...

This was helpful. Some things I was aware of & some things I was not. I would love to see more “tricks of the trade” for fine limp hair to increase volume without “drab” product buildup. Most products take away the shine & leave the hair looking lack luster.

Agree! I do think it's hard to get both texture and shine because the "grippiness" coats the hair in something that makes it less slippery and thus also makes it lose shine. I have figured a couple things out, but I'd like to have more options. I have wavy hair so this may not work for you, but I use the Cantu Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream, which adds *unreal* shine, while also giving decent hold and volume. I also use the Bondbar Bonding Concentrate, which is basically a super-light hair oil, for even more shine. When I then use a mousse or hair spray, the decrease in shininess is a lot less annoying. I also use a glycerin-based pomade at the very roots sometimes to tame my hair, and that also tends to add grip without making the hair too dull.

That's awe seeing this. I've been a stylist for 14 years and it's not often sadly for stylists to educate their customers/clients on how to style their hair to achieve the look they are wanting. It's sad that stylists don't. I always made it a point to educate ,from young men trying to have a certain style I always made sure they had a comb at home if not I sent them home with one for women I demonstrated how to get that look. For they way that is easier for the client. I lo Ed this!

When I hit 50, with menopause and being extremely stressed out and possibly other reason I lost so much hair. It isnt falling out as much now, but I see no new growth. This is the way my former stylist (and most stylists) dry my hair. They put an enourmous amount of product in my hair: root lift, heat protectant, mouse, and then some other kind of greasy/waxy stuff when done drying. My hair looks gross and stringy and feels sticky and gummy afterward and I always go home right afterward and wash it to get all the junk out of it. I have fine/thin hair and I hate putting all that product in my hair. I get more volume when I style/dry myself without any product and finish with hairspray.

I also hate many products that leave my hair feeling dry or crunchy or greasy. However, there are all-in-one lightweight volumizing thermal sprays, some even add some shine. Definitely tell your stylist that you want things to be as lightweight and soft to touch as possible. A good stylist will learn what you like and use products that will make you happy.

Those luxury brands you might find at Sephora, or a salon, at $25+ are because the ingredients are vastly different and way more costly. The markup is barely enough to make a profit. Believe me, or don't. I'm a formulator. I make these products. The best way to know the difference? Educate yourself on ingredients.

0:23 I’m 68 years of age and have just started paying extra and buying the products from my hairdresser. My hair is so much easier to manage. I get more compliments about my hair now. Even my 7 year old grandson said - I love your hair Nanny, it’s so smooth. The products do last a long time. You can get so much more enjoyment out of your hair. You don’t need to wait for the hair dresser to do their magic. You wouldn’t dream of putting dishwashing detergent on your hair - but that’s kind of what you get when you buy the cheapies. All the best! Maybe you could buy the expensive products and save for the weekend to make them last longer!

I remember her makeover and love today’s video! I get so much from your channel and appreciate all of the information you share with all of us! I learned today that that root spray needs to be combed throughout the strands. I was keeping it close to the scalp and then using a gel or such for the rest of the blowout. I haven’t been using the heat protector until I start styling with heated brush or curling iron or flat iron. Depending on look I’m trying to accomplish. I have appointment for hair cut Friday so fingers crossed 🤞🏼! Love when you show technique like this, especially having the client take a crack at it. I have similar density and texture hair that recently decided to cow-lick in the back (thanks post-menopausal hair thinning) but I'm afraid to blow dry it. It has tons of wave if I let it air dry but the cowlicks are horrendous. When I blow dry my hair it ends up super dry, flyaway and I have to wash it next day no matter what. Yay fine hair (lol)

There's a huge difference between "dirty" that makes it easier to style (generally achieved by a lightweight layer of products and then maybe another layer of dry shampoo that's sunk in over night) and dirty like oily- I think people in hair styling circles fail to distinguish and it causes confusion. Oils on your hair AND heavy oily hair styling products made for thicker hair types both weigh down fine hair to the point where creating volume is practically impossible. Keeping it clean, as in no oils, will help you but finding a gentle enough shampoo or cleansing routine that won't stress your sebaceous glands and cause your scalp to produce more oils can be a delicate process. I'd go for lightweight, made for sensitive skin products and some lightweight mousse

I have fine hair which for me it's a must that I wash my hair every day because by noon my hair will look greasy, so what I do is I put mouse in and rub into the roots and air dry my hair as I'm putting on my make-up, then when I'm ready to blow dry my hair ( I call it dirtier my hair up) to get the volume and what I do it get a light dusting of baby powder on my hand, not too much and put it in my hair to give it volume and then blow dry and style how I want my hair. It works for me.

Pretty sure he didn’t mean a few days with oily hair. Probably the second day of washing. If you have oily hair then please wash it when needed. I have fine but naturally curly hair. I can get away with washing my hair once a week.

Ok wow best hair video I’ve watched- and I’ve watched a lot! Loved the cowlick tip, and also blow drying the other direction then moving hair back where you want it. I’d love tips on that ‘widows’ area where hair is thinning, how to style or cut that so it doesn’t look so sparse and stringy. I always just tuck behind my ear but there must be something better! You're so welcome! I think that's more about the product than the application. That could be your hair texture. There is a reason this may be happening but the explanation is a bit linger than I can get into in a comment. It would need a visual reference. Maybe I'll try and remember to throw it in a future video.

Great video! Both my husband and I watched it. I know that there are women like myself with shoulder problems, that have difficulty using the round brush method. I bought a round brush hair dryer (like DryBar, Revlon, L’ange etc.) I would like to have a presentation on how to use the round brush dryer correctly, with product. Can you do a fine and thin hair blog please? Middle age has not been kind to my hair volume in the front of my head. I also seem to be losing more hair than I ever have in my life if I use any kind of brush. I’ve been using a pick to detangle and comb after that. Maybe I’m not brushing my hair enough. I do have a complex that I’m going to pull it out if I over brush. I brush it only twice a day. Or comb, rather. I’m even embarrassed to go and get my hair cut because they’ll wash it and see how much comes out. I haven’t had a cut since March of 2020 and I hate how long my hair has gotten. I’m getting blood work in less than a week to check my thyroid(my mom has Hashimotos), folic acid since I have a genetic disorder that causes my body not to be able to convert much folic acid to folate(I’ve been taking an actual folate vitamin for 3 months now), and my hormones since I’m 44 and perimenopausal. Any three could be causes. I’m betting Hashimotos since it develops in middle age and I haven’t had blood work in like 5 or 6 years. I have many of the symptoms and my mom has extremely strong genes because I’ve gotten every one of her health issues as I’ve aged. Cross your fingers for me because it’ll grow back if I get on thyroid meds and find a good level. I really want one of these things to come up because it’ll tell me what is going on and that’s stressing me out because I feel like I look awful in the meantime. Anyway, I’d love more blogs like this! Especially if we don’t find a reason in my bloodwork. I love your channel. ❤❤❤

I always fail by brushing my hair down after blow drying it upside down (to get it to look less messy), and I did notice it totally undoes the volume of the blowdry. Thanks for the video 🎉

I have fine, thin, fragile hair with a double cowlick like her. I have had AMAZING stylists give me a low, chin length Bob and no matter what I do, or they do, my hair still splits in the back. I cannot use any products that spray and could get on my scalp because I am allergic to a ton of things, even some that say “hypoallergenic “. So, many years later, I grew my hair to mid back, stopped blow drying or using any heat on my hair. I only shampoo once a week (very dry). I will sometimes use a curl crème on just the lower strands because Ido have naturally wavy hair and it softens the ends. After day two of wearing it down, I always wear it braided or pulled back with a scrunchy or pulled into a messy, tiny bun. It works for me. I also, suffer from chronic pain and so cannot do any styling that requires me to hold my arms up. I even rest doing a braid.

Sounds like my hair except for no cowlicks here .......very fine / blow away type! and getting worse. (I'm actually 85 but no one believes me about that - & say I look 60 if that !). SO0O... rollers & hair dryers = I threw out = did not work! I think it's too reactive especially to damp weather. Have had the best result setting it at night slightly damp . . . . either large pin curls or using a soft roller type. That gives me the most control .... MIGHT last a couple of days. And I can wear it up in messy bun, or a wavy French twist. OH =. it's alot better now that the color went from a 'flat boring dirty blonde', to a nice bright soft beige ~ happier!). It has gotten easier to keep decent ! BUT I think I lost some 'volumn' to covid or loss of hormones or. bad thyroid !!! It's surprisingly gotten compliments ~ [we're very active / know way too many people ! ]. Perhaps something might help you !

I just love all your videos for us fine/thin hair girls. Most of the time I wear my hair straight just because it’s faster, but lately I’ve been experimenting with curling it. So far I’ve tried, with a curling iron, flexible rods, the “robe tie” method, and curling with a flat iron. They sometimes look halfway decent but my hair just looks so frizzy. Is there a product I can use before hand to help with this. I like the fact that my hair looks denser with a curl, but the frizzies are awful.

I’m 69 & since diagnosed w thyroid problems my hair has gone from complaining about how thick it was to having enough hair in my brush to make a wig. My hair is so very thin now. I want to try ur product u have come with to help add volume. I miss my full head of hair but I’m willing to do what ever it takes to make my hair look fabulous again. Like I said..
