Thanks Justin , what a great guitar review. You give your audience exactly the information they need but expand on this information with fabulous playing. Maton Australia must be very happy to have a guitarist of your caliber giving honest and outstanding reviews & demonstrations of their instruments. Nice touch of humour as well. My BG808 still going strong. Made in October 1979, been with me since then. Played it at a gig 3 months ago. Never had a setup, replaced tuners back in the 80s sometime ( busted original tuners). Fishman pickup installed, always good to go. I'm glad it can’t talk about some of the places it’s been.

I have a 12 string that was hand made in Australia that sounds like this. Nice bright clear acoustic tones. Really resonates well. I bought it because I could tune it by ear pretty easily compared with others and that clarity and sparkle helps. Put some heavy bronze 80/20 so it is deep also.

Mine has a Western Red Cedar top, Blackwood back & sides with a Queensland Maple Neck. It’s not pretty, but it was the best sounding 808 in the shop. It suits me to a tee, not pretty, but makes a pretty sound… like me.

Cole Clark is another great Australian guitar maker using native tonewoods they use a microphone, piezo and a soundboard sensor making a three way pick up. There are also quite a few excellent small companies making amazing guitars here from our native trees.
@pharmerdavid14323 жыл бұрын
I don't think I've ever seen JJ so stoked about a new guitar. It's good to see luthiers making their own pickups. Pickups are very important to the sound, so why shouldn't guitar makers want to make their own? Luthiers put so much care into making instruments, why not put the same care into making sure it's amplified properly too? Some might say making pickups is different than making guitars, but pickups are relatively simple to make in comparison, so why NOT make them yourself if you're already a talented luthier? It sure sounds sweet, those Aussie tone woods obviously work well. Some other companies like "Godin" in Canada, and "Rukaungas" in Finland, use some native woods, and make their own pickups too (if they are reading this, please send JJ a guitar?). Cheers!

I put the guitar on the boat and into the hands of the guitarist who was playing at the Bar that night, and he played it for hours before commenting on how good it was, and that I had graciosly let him play it for his gig. It was awesome, a Sept 2000 Maton TE1 Artist, still awesome to this day. ❤️

I had one for a while, it had a big beautiful voice. But I sold it as it was just too big to play comfortably sitting down - which is what I mostly do. The smaller 808 model would be a good choice, but if you're playing on stage standing, its a great big sounding instrument.

Great Review Sir. I do believe it would be "Dingo"! "There was a farmer who had a dog, and Bingo was his name-o. B-I-N-G-O" The original song B-I-N-G-O was first published in 1780 England. Being that the song is English in origin and that this fine instrument is from Australia, changing to the term "Dingo" seems very appropriate. What a beautifully sounding/articulate guitar, it's voice is special and has that something extra. Again, Thank You JJ
