after seeing your journey with it then I suppose it is different for everyone. I got a forearm tattoo and it’s a pretty decent size. I had no fluid buildup whatsoever, no bumps or pimples. I guess the negatives for me were day 4-6 was VERY itchy and the residue it left behind after I took it off was extremely sticky for 2 days no matter what I did or how I cleaned it. Other than that it’s incredible and I’d never personally go back to the traditional way
@justinkd4 жыл бұрын
Yeah everyone’s body is going to act differently to this. As for itchy I didn’t feel anything until the saniderm was taken offf and also to help you in the next time you use it, use coconut oil or what they recommend to (sanibalm) over the residue spots and that should take it off

This is very relieving for me to read. I just had a phenomenal tattoo done yesterday and the artists co-owner of the shop applied Saniderm to my arm (the saranwrap was too tight so he suggested Saniderm as a superior method). I’ve read to apply one Saniderm for 24 hrs and another for 6 days, but my guy said to leave the first Saniderm on for 6 days and then take it off. I guess I’m just looking for reassurance here that your experience with it was positive.

For the people that are allergic to latex, I suggest Tegaderm. Same concept except latex free. Also medical grade, we use it at the hospital for wound care. The only issue I believe is that it only has certain sizes, so you would have to use multiple pieces to fit a large tattoo.

This definitely helps when you bump or scratch the area of your tattoo. I’ve had plenty of tattoos with saniderm but I’m really glad I had it on with my last one. I was walking out of my room and wasn’t paying attention and i just woke up. I scraped my arm against the door frame and that would have definitely messed up my healing process if I didn’t have the film on. It stung like I just got slapped really hard, but at least I wasn’t blending from the scrape or took some skin off!

I used saniderm covering both my inner bicep and about half of the lower outer bicep at once (black and grey tattoo) and it definitely healed holding the ink much better than any other tattoos I’d gotten before without it. My artist told me to keep it on for 4-5 days depending on how it felt. My skin is normally sensitive and gets dry easy but I never experienced any prolonged irritation. I’d recommend taking it off in the shower with soap or coconut oil because it hurts like crazy without lol. Only weird part was the adhesive still being left over, but it falls off over time washing it. The best part is definitely being able to shower and sleep comfortably that first week lol

mine also. She said 5 days and then take it off. I think this is better as when you take it off right away, you loose the natural fluid build up which avoids scabbing. Additionally, peeling this off a new tattoo will hurt like a bitch!

As a tattoo artist our shop advises 3 to 5 days straight without taking it off and that is why for sure. All the fluids get re-absorbed and is great for healing. Some people even go up to 7 days before taking it off.

you can use saniderm because the skin can breathe and is still protected for the first few days :) you shouldnt use a regular plastic wrap tho. my artists always told me to wear it for 2-3 days but not too long
@Kemandime Жыл бұрын
The big thing for me is the lack of any scabbing, it's a game changer. You take it off after the 5-7 days and by the next day it's in the flaking/peeling phase. Saniderm skips the scab phase entirely. I'm getting a sleeve done, and I have several spots that scabbed and scarred pretty badly, the ink even getting completely pulled from the skin in some of the scabbed areas, this is through traditional wash and moisturize method. Saniderm? Nothing. zero scabbing. I keep the bandage on straight from day 1 through to day 5-7 (doesn't really matter after 5, so I keep it for 7 if it hasn't already started peeling off at the edges) and by the time I remove it, the tattoo starts flaking/peeling the next day. A week later and it's pretty much completely healed. Swear by the stuff. I use it secretly now, because my current artist hates it for some reason, so I bought my own and apply it the day after my tattoo. I remove the regular bandage, wash thoroughly, apply saniderm. Done.

I've used Saniderm, Tegaderm, and Second Skin. Loved SS and Tegaderm. I'll never use Saniderm again. It's thinner than the other two and I found it left itchy residue on my skin whereas the other products did not. Plus, it is more difficult to remove. I had great results with Tegaderm and Second Skin and they came off more easily. The Saniderm was difficult to remove and it pulled off skin in the areas that weren't tattooed, so I ended up having more areas that needed healing.

got my first tattoo just over a week ago on my inner bicep, artist put an adhesive bandage (like gauze, not plastic like Saniderm) on and said to leave it for 6 days, had it off for a couple of days now and i have a few little flakey spots and thats it, it's so much better and easier than the wash and moisturise 3x a day method seems. no worrying about ink/blood/fluids on clothes or bedding etc, if a spot itches just gently rub over the bandage as if you're trying to tickle it and the itch is gone! and best of all, pretty much 0 risk of infection during the first phase of the healing process.

I always get my new tattoos wrapped up with a product called SupraSorb. I guess this is a similar product, which was originally designed to cover up burns. It‘s much easier and safer to apply than Saniderm. And it‘s definitely not made to get peeled off after 24h and applied again afterwards because doing so holds a unnecessary risk of an infection. Leave it on for a week and most importantly: leave your tattoo alone during that week. It‘s designed that way to let your tattoo or wounds heal properly while protecting it from dust, dirt and yourself and your dirty hands. 😉

My artist spoke to a dermatologist and the “best” way to heal a tattoo which is tremendously better than using after care is simply to wash it in the shower and leave the tattoo dry. A dry wound is a healing wound. My tattoos have healed great since switching to his method

Bit of a long winded story here but this is my experience with Saniderm and similar products. My tattoo artist that did my arm sleeve was pretty oldschool. Been in the business for 30+ years and when I first started going to him, we didn't use Saniderm or any other type of "second skin" for aftercare. We just used that blue sanitized cloth (sorry, no idea what its called) and taped it on to cover for 24 hours. The majority of my sleeve was done like this. The very last session was the inside of the bicep and after this session, he told me that the ministry of health was making tattoo artists use products like Saniderm, so that's what we used. Honestly, for the inside of the bicep, it was awful to remove the Saniderm. It didn't peel off cleanly and being such a sensitive spot already, peeling it off was more painful then the tattoo itself. I've since gotten more tattoos and used Saniderm a few times since, to much better results. Long story short, for me , it depends where the tattoo is and how long it gets left on for. Side note, the inside of my bicep had the roughest healing and most noticeable fading compared to the rest of my arm, which healed perfectly and stills looks like new.
@shaunmcdonald27703 жыл бұрын
My artist started using this a little while ago. It has taken the dread out of the tattoo after care process. I leave the first one on for 24 hours and the replacement on for a week and only change it out if there is any major fluid build up or if the Saniderm becomes unstuck. I could never think about going back to any other method for aftercare.

i have both arms and legs completely sleeved , none of my tatts dried like that , that does not seem like a very good method for Tattoo care, my gf is a nurse and she says that doing that is just covering a wound and is just asking for disaster, and yes a tattoo is a wound, it just does not appear that way because it is full of ink and you cant see the wound. a tatt without ink looks like you have been attacked by an artistic cat. A wound needs air to breath in order to heal properly , that bad smell is infection and it is trapped under the plastic and will only irritate any other parts of you skin that it comes into contact with. also that is not your ordinary cling wrap that you use in the kitchen , it has glue on it, why would you want to clog your pores with glue while trying to care for a tattoo. The whole process just seems counter productive to the healing process
@justinkd3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know man. Some of my tattoos that I’ve used Saniderm on have healed the best out of any. It’s medical grade skin so it lets oxygen through to breathe while keeping anything inside or out. I will agree that the glue sticking can be a problem and unpleasant taking off but having it run under some water frost to loosen it up definitely helps. I’ve done both methods to taking it off dry and under water and both work and leave very little glue residue that can easily be taken off

@@SkindrixX I was thinking exactly this. Trying to keep it fresh like that will not help it heal at all and could affect how the tattoo naturally heals. It is a dressing made for post -op wounds (as the name would suggest). Usually for a surgical wound you can use Opsite with a built in foam grid for cushioning/support which I wouldn't recommend for a tattoo, but they have the fully clear ones too (like Saniderm) which are often used as a protective barrier during surgery which you can make your incision through. To me it seems really useful and helpful.

I just tried Saniderm for the first time. It was great not having to worry about constantly having to wash and moisturize. Also I have dogs and a cat in the house and I didn't have to worry about hair and dirt- infection. The worst thing that happened- I had problems wrapping the Saniderm around my forearm and got a wrinkle in the film. When I went to change it after the first twenty four hours, when I was pulling it off, it stuck to my skin and I ripped off a good chunk of skin where the wrinkle had been. Be sure to make sure that the film is smooth when you apply it! I would recommend Saniderm to everybody. Love the stick balms. It is so nice just rolling the moisturizer on instead of gunking it out of a tub.

I believe I also got the Saniderm, but I took it off after about 23 hours instead of the suggested artist’s four days, they wouldn’t rewrap it and just told me to put aftercare asap, Is my new tattoo ruined? It looks good, but I wouldn’t know if it was ruined cos I didn’t follow my artists directions It’s so confusing though cos I called the same tattoo shop earlier and they said if its leaking blood etc I can remove the bandage, thats why I removed the Saniderm after 23 hours cos it was leaking

I got a realism tattoo half sleeve on my upper arm that has heavy blacks . After the first night of letting the majority of the fluids drain into the plastic wrap I washed my tattoo, let it dry, and applied saniderm. I loved it the first 2 days because I didn’t have to worry about it . But because I work outdoors (HVAC) I sweat. The saniderm doesn’t prevent you from sweating it just traps the sweat against you skin which for me caused a lot of pimples and smell and pockets of puss. Out of panic I removed the saniderm on the 3rd day and it took a lot of deep black off of my tattoo which ended up healing grey in some parts. Because its a realism piece that took multiple sessions I was able to get it fixed on the 2nd session. After the 2nd session I did the same process of letting it drain and applying the next day to give it another shot. This time I would drain the pockets of puss and sweat and do the patches of saniderm which worked well. I left it on for a total of 5 days and would only trim off the parts that came off on their own. When you sweat a lot the saniderm adhesive comes off easily so on the 5th day the sweat allowed the saniderm to slide off completely leaving a perfectly healed tattoo. Although it smells gives you pimples and can be uncomfortable depending on where it is, as long as you leave it alone and don’t panic the tattoo heals perfectly. I would recommend saniderm to anyone that works in a dirty job that would be struggling to keep the tattoo clean while healing the traditional way. For people that don’t sweat at the gym or at work saniderm should give you no problems at all.

I have the same thing with Saniderm on the inside of my bicep. I tried it for the first time in January of 2022. I am working on a full sleeve project. The Saniderm was great and did not irritate my skin on places that did not move much. However, when placed on my inner arm, it makes it very red and irritated. Over the year I have switched to Recovery Derm and I find it a much more pleasant experience. I still have a bunch of Saniderm left so I just use it in a pinch if I need to change a bandage.

I have used saniderm for all my tattoos. My smallest one I only had to keep on over night. However, my biggest one had to be kept on for 5 days. I let it bleed for the first day to the point of leakage. Then I cleaned the area with green soap and applied saniderm myself at home. My tattoo artist always tells me not to worry about weeping. It’s actually healthy for your tattoo to sit in the ink and plasma. I never noticed a smell or anything. Biggest thing is listening to your own body. If the saniderm is leaking or you notice swelling or infection take it off, clean the area, and reapply.

Currently new to tattoos, have two so far. The artist used this on my first tattoo on my wrist and was told to leave it on for the full 6 days. At the end of the 6 days it came off easily no hassle. Did have build up within the tattoo itself but no infection what so ever. Just recently got another piece done on the side of my arm bigger than the first and have saniderm on it again. Currently on day 5 and again just have the normal build up left behind from the tattoo but it is just itchy the past 2 days. Have not taken it off since then and seems to be doing fine as of right now but i guess we all react differently to them. Have no complaints so far from using this.

My artist used Saniderm on my big thigh piece, and zero leaks! It was so awesome and easy to use, and my tattoo healed great because of it. However, my artist recommended to not peel the Saniderm off, as that can cause more irritation on the tattooed skin, but to slowly roll it off using coconut oil. A healthy amount of coconut oil in the shower really helped easily my covering.

So after starting my head tattoo..First thoughts not painful at all at the top (3.5/10, the spot i would say i felt a 6/10 was at the hair line shading etc that wasn't comfortable but definitely bareable I think most would agree. The fact i didn't bleed anywhere shocked both myself and my tattooist. The saniderm I ended up not ordering it as my tattooist uses it. But I noticed that it doesn't stick good to the parts of the head that have a little hair there so it ended up coming off slightly lastnight. I've now taken it off and decided to use the original method of healing but when I go back and finish it off ill use it for that 100% for comparison.

This video is very informative because it shows you when you need to take it off, ie if your tattoo gets irritated remove it then wash the tattoo and let that area breath before you apply again. It would be cool if we just keep it on seven days straight but I guess peoples bodies heal different.

@paranoidbeing11913 жыл бұрын
When taking it off you should pull the bandage away to get the adhesive to let go of the skin without any risk of the bandage unnecessarily pulling on the tattoo. Almost like you’re just stretching it to weaken the seal instead of peeling it like a bandaid. I also definitely second doing it in the shower but if you don’t have time or the means to do that wetting it with some warm soapy water should work fine. Also saniderm has been known to have adverse reactions when being combined with products that are glycerin based which is found in green soap, the soap most shops use. So it might also be a good idea to ask your artist if they have any glycerin free alternatives when they do the final wipe down of your piece, saniderm personally recommends Dr.Bronners on their site. Happy healin!

I got a saying in script lettering on my forearm. It’s been a godsend to use this. No clothes rubbing on it. No scratching it in the middle of the night. No catching it on the desk at work. It’s a little bit itchy now. I have to make sure that’s kosher but it says 5 days minimum. So much easier than the traditional way when your skin doesn’t like scratches or abrasions to begin with and typically gets irritated. This takes that possibility away.
