Good review! I hiked 600 km with this tent the GPT in Patagonia. Held up with no problems to rain, storms and some really high winds. Light, easy to set up, simplicity. On warm and humid nights just kept the door open for extra ventilation. And yes, because the tent is bigger, when I had condensation, I did not touch the walls, so no problem at all, just dry it the next day very quickly.

I like how you talk about the height of your setup including your personal dimensions because a lot of people don't think about how that affect contact with the tent depending on the tent design. You go into actual livability aspects such as talking about where the pole is in relation to you and your bag and such. I appreciate it.

I bought the 'standard' Lanshan 1 and sold it on before even using it, because although it looked really well made, the interior space was just too tight (and I'm not particularly tall at 5'11"). I bought the Pro version (in green) and the increase in interior space is amazing! Love this tent, which I've been using for 'stealth camping' in the woods during lockdown. One 'tip' if I may - The mesh surround needs to slope downwards from the top of the bathtub towards the ground, otherwise drips of condensation will cross the mesh and form puddles on the floor. This slope is tricky to get right, and is not possible if you have your pole set too high. Disagree with your asessment of the fabric change! 20D is just better, period, and a bit of seam-sealing didn't kill anyone. Despite your admirable use of it in snow etc, I still see this as a fairer-weather option, and will be sticking with my Hexpeak V4A in harsher conditions. But a sub-700g practical tent at this price? What's not to like?
@JustinOutdoors

Ya, my 20d gripe was pretty minor but I think the seam sealing will turn a lot of people off of it! People want turn key solutions. haha

You're incredibly thorough and no BS about the things you review. I've made purchases directly because of your videos. Have you considered a long term series? By that a mean a big, full on through hike? Seems that the big hiker "tubers" have all done this to really establish their viewer base. I mean, if that's even something you're looking at doing. I have the regular version. The best tent around for the money spent/weight ratio. 2weeks ago I was caught in a bad thunderstorm in the Uwharrie Mountains NC, we got 4inches of rain that night. I stayed 100% dry inside. There was literally a1inch river flowing under the tent, I had my shoes sitting on my z-seat under the vestibule, they were floating. I am interested in the pro version, I'll probably get it once something breaks on my current model. That might be awhile though, this thing is made pretty damn well.

Hi Justin, thanks for this review - great to see you are still stoked about this tent even after multiple uses! Definitely a recommend if ultra light solo back packing tent is your thing. I would recommend having a look at 'how to' seam sealing videos - key point squeeze out some sealer into a small pot, thin down with white spirit to consistency of runny honey and with small paint brush apply a thin line carefully to the sewn seams - including bath tub floor corners - no biggie...

Hey Justin. So is it heavier than the old one, or is there something I didn't understand? and is it worth to pay an extra 30 US$ for the pro? Thanks Again : )

Must have mispoken. The OG Lanshan 1 I have was 780g on my scale. The Pro is 690g on my scale. I think it is paying the extra for the Pro just for the extra space. If the extra space isn't needed, then maybe not.

I think they swapped to a 20 denier because of one issue with the 15 used on the "regular" Lanshans. When they get wet in sustained rain the regular Lanshans flies *really* sag, I mean *really*. I am fairly certain they got a few complaints about that issue so with the pro they were likely trying to limit this issue.
@JustinOutdoors
@JustinOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
I have definitely noticed the sagginess, but the reason the pro doesn't is due to the silicone treatment. I imagine they could have done the same to a 15d.

The new ones are silpoly with next to noting in sagging when wet. I have a silpoly tarp and it does not sag when wet so I believe that tent wouldn't either. All I know for sure is my nylon one will sag when wet but is easy to tighten back up. Between the two brands big difference in price and a few ounces in weight. The rain fly is attached to the tent. It's a single walled tent, so there is only one piece of material between you and the sky.

Hi Justin! Just ordered Lanshan 1 PRO. I'm wondering, since the fly is made from double side silnylon, is it possible to apply the seam sealer from the inside of the tent?

You can always seam seal the inside or outside depending on your preference! I find sealing the outside much easier.

hi Justin, i have a question: does the back side of a tube also not that high as at the entrance side? I just tried to set this tent up for the first time, did my best with tensioning all the guylines as good as i could. Still the side of the tube is kind of flat(ter) then the rest by the perimeter. Thank you for your answer.

Great review Justin. It's very welcome to read reviews from people who have actually camped in the tent for many nights, rather than giving you their opinion after taking it out the packaging and pitching it in their garden. I had seen this tent on many websites but always thought it looked a bit flimsy. However l eventually bought it on the strength of your review. Have only been out in it twice but am very impressed. It rained hard on my first night but along with my gear l was bone dry in the morning. Condensation was no worse than in other tents lve owned but easily wiped down. Its very light, takes up little room in my rucksack, its relatively cheap, so what's not to like?
