Is it just me, or is anyone else noticing that the older boys maturing into young men are in all their actions and mannerisms indicating they do not want to be on camera anymore. Their self awareness has increased and are pulling back.

We set our bee hives on an old piece of carpet, eliminating the need to mow right beside the boxes.

Justin your bees are doing what bees do. It's called fanning. Keeping tge hive temp where they need it. We keep grass and weeds cut to the dirt all around tge hives, It will help keep beetles out of the hive boxes

Don’t string trim around the bees. You need to put some sort of tarp down to prevent grass from growing close to them.

The "busy hive" sounded like it had a queenless roar. Get yourself a veil, when string trimming I just wear a veil.

Ok. Justin, if uni-cal reads this she will roll me over the coals. I left out a sentence in my last comment. I saw the two supers in the shed. Illinois. The right kind, good. When you showed your two hives, the first thing I noticed was you still have not removed your cleats from the entrances. Second the first hive with no bees on the front was the hive which started with the most bees. Those were the Caucasians. I think I maybe saw one bee through the opening. Sad. I think you have lost all or some of your really fine bees. The correction you need is to remove that strap around the hive, roll it up and lay it over the barn door entrance until you need it again. You do not need it around your bee boxes. Next, You need to light your smoker and put on a veil and go into that box and find out what is going on. If you have no bees, brush the vermin off the frames and take your boxes back to the barn. On of the best things that you could do for yourself is set up a camera and video the operation. (I know you know how to do that.) I suspect wax moths and mites. I know you do not like chemicals. I don't either. But I will tell you what to do based on what I see. In the second box, with the Carniola (spell check is wrong) Remove the entrance reducer. See if the bees have pulled the foundation. This means that the bees have made wax storage cells. That is called pulling the foundation. If the top box and the bottom have frames with pulled foundation, it is time to put your super on that hive. The rain dance will do the budding sourwood good. That was a fine dance and I'm sure the rain gods were pleased. Don't tell the Hooper's Creek Baptist Church. You'll get in trouble. I'd say more but you are such a free spirit I do not want to give you any dampers. One of your relatives called you the, "Rhodes rock star of farming." I think homesteading was too big of a word. Anyhow, Justin, honeybees are terribly forgiving. What you did today was ok but in the scheme of things "not necessary"! Keeping the weeds and grass down helps with aesthetics and may even keep a beetle or mite from crawling back to the hive. Do keep me posted. Kaylee will be watching I'm sure.

We laid a concrete to keep our hive on. 4 feet x 4 feet easily holds 4 hives. Bees sleep at night. String trim after they settle down as the sun sets. They seem more agitated during the rain because they'd rather be out bringing in pollen/ nectar than housekeeping, but shouldn't bother you too much. A lot of people suit up to string trim. Do you have a scathe? You showed how to use one a few weeks ago. I would think that would be best.

Oh be careful with that lawnmower! My friend's daughter just got run over by her father mowing the lawn. She's going to be ok, she lost her middle toe and and has some infection to deal with, but they say she should be able to walk normally. Still, it happens so fast! Please watch out! Keep the littles away from the mower!
